Ford Ranger Door Chime Problem - Solved (REALLY)

In this video I tackle the common door chime problem with the Ford Ranger. I simply remove the buzzer/chime.
This modification is done at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage or malfunction that may occur.

It's not the most mature thing I've ever done, but do know how satisfying it was to take that little buzzer when I disconnected it, put it on an anvil, and smashed it into shards? I could feel all of the stress in my shoulders start to melt. Thanks for uploading!!!

Thanks x1000 for posting this. I did the procedure in maybe 30 minutes! Vehicle is a '02 Ranger XL 5 speed 2.3....... I used a dremel tool with a miniature burr tool attached. I simply ground down the two connections until they were flush with the circuit board then very carefully pried it until the chime speaker popped free. No more phantom chimes, EVER! -Regards from Waterford, Michigan USA :-D

Great video. I did this on a 2002 Focus last year that had the same problem. I now have a 1998 Ranger with the problem... So I wanted to see the location of the module. I'm glad you did this for people having this problem. I wish they wouldn't put these silly buzzers in cars it's the worst when you are diagnosing any problem on the interior or you are trying to read scanner data and the car yells at you the whole time..

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I just finished this on my 2000 Ford Explorer and it worked perfectly. Wasn't really that hard thanks to your detailed instruction. The hardest part for me was getting that screw back in that holds the black box. I lost it and replaced it with something that worked. Also, I didn't de-solder the connections. I just twisted the bastard a little with a pair of channel locks until it came off. If it weren't for you I would have had to just deal with that annoying beeper. My situation was that about 7 seconds after every time I started the vehicle, the beeper would do a series of 5 beeps for 5 times. Infuriating. Also do it again every half hour or so. Hahahahah, that is freaking funny of what you said " I just twisted the little basterd with a pair of channel locks and it came right off " hahahah. It's crazy of how such a little thing like that , can make such a loud sound. My 2000 Ford Ranger Supercab hasn't given me this issue yet , thank goodness. But a while back my Mercedes would chime like that and drive me crazy and then after a few months it just quit , before I could take out the chime speaker.

I get in and out of my truck a lot, leave it running, leave the doors open, leave the keys in it, and the damned chime was driving me insane. I’d tried the ignition tumbler solution; the voodoo solution of latch the belt three times, switch on the lights, latch three more times, swing a chicken over your head; and a few other worthless procedures. This is the only solution that shut the damned thing up for good. It’s a simple job I was able to complete from start to finish in far less time than it took to watch the video. Beautiful silence, that's what I want. I'm gonna try that. I removed the box this afternoon and I'm leaving it out. Doesn't seem to affect anything else. Thank you SO MUCH for the video. That noise was driving me NUTS!! Well I just found out that THAT particular module is for the 4 wheel drive on the 06. Same description and everything, but it is NOT for the door open chime. The chime for the doors open, headlights on, key in the ignition is on the backside of the gauge cluster. You have to remove the cluster and look for a round black plastic thingy. On the 06 ranger its right behind the speedometer. What I did is once I had the cluster out of the dash and just pry off that black round thing. Put it all back together and wahla, no more annoying dinging. In his picture, that is exactly what the piece looks like, but on the 06, it's on the back of the gauge cluster.

What I want is to fix this chime on my 1999 Mazda B3000 SX not to take it out. The problem is that the chime doesn't work when the key is on the ignition switch with the door is open and when the ignition switch is in the on position.The chime basically don't work and not make the noise. The other ones work except the sestbelt one. If someone can help please respond

On my 97 the ding gos off if the door is open (key is not in the ignition) but dings like it is

i just did a door latch swap on my truck because the used door I swapped in was from a different year and the switch was a different style connector, so I do have a functioning door chime when the key is in the ignition and door open or closed but I got a courtesy light issue to figure out now.

How do you know its a door chime problem ? I have a alarm going off that sounds like a fork lift backing up that goes off 5 times in a row ( a total of 25 times )the alarm is behind the glove box My truck is Ford Ranger 1997 for wheel drive w/ 4.o engine / does anyone know what the hell it is ?

I don't know if you got an answer, but likely your airbag indicator light is burnt out, in the instrument cluster. Yours should be a 194 lamp, just buy a pack of 12 or more (I think there's 11 lights) and replace them all.

I installed a aftermarket radio and now my car won’t start and windows won’t roll down as well as the door chime won’t work unless it has 12v from my cigarette lighter

My ranger is a pos & not my daily so I just took a soldering iron to the two connectors on the board holding the “bell” in place for a bit until I warmed them up enough, as it warmed them up I jiggled it’s back & forth until it came out. Easy. I did not no looking for wick or anything.

The door buzzer is 1 wire attached to a flat piece of metal that is on the outside of your key switch. It's grounding out just pull it out. Lol

I'm thinking about trying to take the the buzzer part off the motherboard so far everything still working fine in your truck? I tried the wd40 in the door jams, it also has to do with your seatbelts. but I tried all that 2 or 3 times and replaced dash bulbs...so I'm at the point where as you said that annoying sound has to go.

Yes it will, but remember if you remove the buzzer you will not get alerts for anything, like headlights left on or keys left in ignition so you have to be extra attentive to these things. It was worth it for me! Thanks for watching!

Check to make sure that you plugged the harness plugs back into the box correctly, also check your fuses in case you may have accidentally blown one. Only things that I can think of. Good Luck, hope you get it worked out.

The dome and wipers are controlled with this module. It must be plugged in for them to work. Anyone ever try just replacing the module?

Have him make sure that he correctly plugged the main plug back into the box that holds that circuit board. Or he may have accidentally hit something and blew a fuse.

a simple soldering iron and solder wick will do the work. There are plenty of you tube vids on how to solder and remove the solder. Just use enough heat as one of the holes may be ground which means you have to heat a lot more mass on the board then just the contact to get the solder to flow.

It is the buzzer for everything, so once you remove it you just have to remember to take the keys out, shut off the headlights etc. Without assistance from the buzzer reminder. Thanks for watching!

Yes it is because someone pulled out the airbag and check engine bulbs. It could also be because the seats arent conected to the plugs. Mine started going off once I removed the bulbs and got new seats from the junk yard. So I dont know which caused it.

I did exactly that and didn't unhook my battery. my cigar wires touched and fried my fuse. in cab fuze. so I changed it. well I also noticed my speedometer and whole IP cluster does not work now lol. not Shure what to do now. I even checked main fuze box under hood and the IP fuse is fine?

You fried your cluster. You will have to buy another. Also this guy could have just looked on his wiring diagram and found the wire that runs the buzzer and cut it. Much easier and safer because that box is the GEm module that runs the whole truck. He should have just replaced that whole module because it is going bad and it will continue to go bad and he will replace it sooner or later. But yes you fried our cluster. ALWAYS take the battery loose when doing any electrical on a vehicle.

2003 Ford Ranger Edge with this problem. Have done the WD-40 trick on both doors - didn't fix it. Replaced both door ajar switches. Still bings randomly. Disconnected both door switches. Still bings randomly. Has nothing to do with the doors. Its caused by a fault somewhere else in the system. No idea where.
