You all just helped me decide against buying a motorhome. NO ONE should have to go through shit like that on a new or barely used vehicle that costs that much. That is just plain greed on the part of RV dealers, manufacturers and suppliers. There is NO reason that the RV Dealers Association can't set up a dealership/repair system like automobile dealers.

I have owned two motorhomes. One a 2020 Newmar Baystar Sport on the F53 chassis and the other was a diesel pusher from Entegra. The difference in ride quality is unbelievable. You will spend less on a gas motorhome but you will most likely not enjoy the ride....and for me that is a big part of the experience. I would be exhausted by the time I reached my destination and lived in fear of what was going to break down on the F53

When purchasing a new commercial truck, class 8 in my case... The first place it goes is to a shop with a pit, everything is checked on my dime. The pigs are checked, the oil, the coolant the transmission, the axles, etc... Then it goes to the frame shop to check and normally always fix the alignment of all axles. Most times everything is fine, but for some reason the axles are always out of alignment. Then the tires, I do have them removed and high speed balanced, normally they are out of whack too. Tires are expensive, and once they start to wear funny, there is no turning back, it is what it is. So, my advice when you buy a rig, new or used, take it to a shop, most truck stops should accommodate you, or try Speedco, I have seen plenty of RV's in there for service. A little tip on truck stops, I gravitate towards TA/Petro, hit the shop after midnight when there is nothing going on and the tech(s) have little to do. They do not get paid to stand around, so getting a rig in to simply do a once over mechanically should not be an issue if you explain exactly what you are looking to do. And call first, explain you would be willing to come in at a slow time, even at 2 am, you may be surprised. And I know, 2 am? Are you nuts? Well, it beats waiting a month to get into a licensed shop or RV dealer. Just saying. And do not forget Speedco, they have both the tire shop and the oil service bays, like I stated, I have seen motorhomes in there too... And keeping the rig clean, hit the local truck wash, usually a Blue Beacon, I have taken mine in there along with my pickups. If the truck stop refuses you, call around to other commercial shops or even truck dealerships, someone will accommodate you. I hope this helps.

Recalls happen. I’ve had them on multiple vehicles I have owned - Ford, Acura, and Audi to name a few. A recall represents the manufacturer admitting to a defect that can cause safety issues and fixing it free of charge. The worse case is when a problem exists across many units and the manufacturer DOESNT issue a recall and owners are left footing the bill. No vehicle is perfect! Now, the issue with Ford dealers not servicing motorhome chassis is truly shameful.

from a person who was in the auto business for over 20 years , 20 alobe with bmw and 3 with ford , the product quality at ford was pitifull , i have been saying this for years , the NHTSA is investigating ford for the issues they had with the new pos bronco, engine valves were dropping , and it happens but not on as many engines as it happened with ford, poor quality and poor quality control, ford outsourced the engine valves from a vendor, and its appears that they never checked the quality, for it occured on many engines at about 400 miles , the whole ford product line is a sham , and it leaks right over to the class A motorhomes that we paid how much for,......................???

An RV’r named ‘American X’ bought a new 2021 Jayco Alante 29f - 32’2” with the Ford 7.3 engine. Broke down about 1k miles into the maiden voyage. The engine wires were overheating and probably shorting, which caused the engine to misfire. Ford assistance would not come out to work on his RV. A mechanic in Georgia went out of his way to help American X get back on the road, but the wire replacements eventually overheated as well. That version of the 7.3 engine was a poor choice for an RV. It needs a revision due to the overheating issue.

Don’t think it’s just Ford. I have Travato on a Ram 3500 Promaster (high roof, extended wheel base). Winnebago makes it very clear that these vans can be serviced by Ram BusinessLink dealers. Great, there’s one near me in Freehold NJ. Guess what…they won’t work on van due to the size. Called Ram to ask how to deal with any repairs under warranty. They told me to go to BusinessLink….told them I have called everyone within an hour drive and all said no. Ram said I must be mistaken and would find a dealer. Guess what…they couldn’t identify a dealer willing to work on the van. They told me if I needed to get warranty repairs at an independent mechanic, would first need to take van to a Ram dealership to confirm the issue, then bring to my mechanic and afterwards submit the paperwork. Don’t know what’s going to happen if dealer needs to put the van on a lift in order to confirm. 😡

THANK YOU FOR BRINGING LIGHT TO THIS PROBLEM! Some people below are missing the point here. The major take away is not the recall, it's the fact (and I mean FACT) that commercial truck dealerships are not working on RVs!!! We just bought a 2021 Newmar. It has the recall issue. Only ONE commercial dealer in CO will work on an RV. I did my home work and looked at the Ford site before buying. They listed four commercial dealerships in my area who would work on F53s but only the one dealer will really work on an RV. Most 2021 F53 based RVs sold in the CO area are now sitting idle in this one Ford repair center's lot and it could take ALL SUMMER to effect the repairs...and Ford won't force the other dealers to help. Some warranty! I'll bet those of you below who think this is whining would react a bit differently if your Ford dealer refused to perform warranty service on your brand new F-250...

We agree Neil and that was the reason for the video. This is now our second video involving Ford and it does not seem much has changed. The consumer has the right to know what they are getting themselves into and the reality is most dealerships will not share this info with customers. We hope you get your recall resolved in a timely fashion and don’t be afraid to call Ford corporate and get them to pay for private shop to fix the problem. Sometimes you have to be the thorn on the side that just does not go away.

I'm not a big fan of class action suits but I think it almost has to come down to this. Ford is selling vehicles that essentially have an almost meaningless warranty. I don't think the RV manufacturers are guilt free here either. They don't help much. Newmar just says 'yea, we hate Ford too'. I do cut them some slack since it's a David and Goliath fight. There is the solution you refer to of allowing third party repair centers to perform the work with the dealerships doing the paperwork but there only seems to be one person at Ford who will work with you and finding her is like looking for a needle in a haystack.@@EndlessRVing

I've had nothing but great service from Ford. Two weeks ago my AC stopped working. I called the local Ford truck service center. They had me bring it in, told me it would take the week to check and repair the AC. I receive a call on Friday morning, AC is fixed and Ford is covering the repairs. When I picked up my Newmar the steering wheel wasn't "straight". I had to take it to a Ford truck center to correct the steering wheel placement. Service center corrected the problem and did an alignment before releasing the coach. Excellent service that time too. This is a systemic problem not just isolated to Ford.

What you said is exactly what we are experiencing right now. We picked up our new Jayco Precept in March 2021. It had about 480 miles on it and it had a clunking noise in the front drivers side when making a right hand turn. It also was a nightmare driving it home 180 miles on a very windy day. About 3 inches of play in steering wheel and all over the road. We had asked dealership to have it aligned before we picked it up. They said they did but we had to have it done again locally and those people said it was really out of align. After having this done it drove like a completely different vehicle. A local Ford dealership in our town which we have been longtime customers of agreed to look at the clunking noise because we are loyal customers. However, we were told they really don't like working on RV's. They had our motorhome for over 6 weeks because parts were on backorder. Then only 1 came in so they put that on the side that was broke and replaced the other 1 with the original because we were leaving on a trip in 3 days. Now we are trying to get the recall taken care of. They told us there were a lot of metal filings in that rear axel lubricant and we really shouldn't take it on a long trip until fixed. We are leaving in 5 weeks for the trip we bought this thing for. They don't really want to fix this and have been putting us off saying the parts are backordered. My husband called Ford and the rep said not true. He ordered the parts and told my husband they would be at the dealership in 2 days. We have called all over our area and even 90 minutes away and are being told the same thing. We don't work on Class A motorhomes. This has been the biggest frustration and if I had known I believe I would have been against purchasing this motorhome.

I have a 2021 Jayco Precept/ I received the letter last week. I checked the axle oil level and it was 5 quarts low. I was told it holds 9-10. Definitely had a lot of fine metal shavings stuck to the magnetic cap. I have almost 5 k miles on it. Fortunately here in memphis we have a good Ford commercial shop, I called them and I’m bringing it in 2 weeks. I really hope they don’t have to replace the axil I just had liquid springs installed! Thank you guys again for valuable information - you do a great job. We are going to be retiring in a couple of years and have been doing our homework by watching videos and trying to get educated on what we wanted. At this point, I think we have just about given up on the RV dream because nothing works and nobody wants to fix it. If I spend a 1/4 million $ on something, I have to expect quality control and it seems nobody does this any more. There is NO reason that they should be able to roll out an RV of any price without having a quality control done. It's is so not done that there is an an industry formed of people that do quality control inspections and cost the consumer $1000 or more. Very discouraging. By the way, I recently had a Ford F250 Platinum with death wobble and Ford still puts it out there that they aren't aware of that either even though there are literally 1000's of complaints online :(

Ford has many folks that express these thoughts daily in various ways, they are a rough bunch to say the least. I had a similar problem, but with Chevrolet. I own a 2020 Coachman Class C on a Chevy 4500 chassis. About 7K miles, the ABS warning light came on. I called several local Chevrolet service centers to schedule an inspection & necessary repair. Everyone of them refused to look at my RV because they said my 24' Class C was "too big" for repair facility. I subsequently had to take my RV to a private repair facility and pay $1,500 to have the defective ABS sensor module replaced. I called the Chevrolet Corporation Warranty Department and explained the situation. They said that local Chevrolet dealerships "can't refuse to perform warranty-related work" and they should have corrected my ABS problem. They added that there is no provision for Chevrolet to reimburse me for warranty work performed by an outside repair facility. My local Chevy dealers have also refused to perform oil changes and other routine services RV because it is allegedly too big and they won't work on RV, even though it is mounted on a Chevrolet chassis that under warranty (and included in the purchase price).

As a person who ran a fleet of 100 trucks and tractor trailers there are problems with everything. I’ve seen some really stupid things with cars, trucks, tractors, and trailers. Back in 2000 Firestone made faulty air bags on the 53 ft triaxle trailers. Try getting airbags for a fleet. The human element will always be there. Not filling a rear end is inexcusable. Rookie mistake. The problem now is getting the parts for repairs in this post COVID world. Even if they were shipped from another company, the install company should always double check everything.

People need to understand how mass produced cars/trucks are made, its not like an RV. In this case, we can address the axle...the axle is made in it's own plant. It may be at Ford's facility, or it may be from a supplier. But, the whole process is automated. The torquing of the bolts is done with an automatic gun that has the torque set so that one tap of the trigger and the bolt/nut is screwed until the required torque is reached, then the gun stops. For something like an axle, with multiple bolts, they would have a gun that does all bolts at the same time. Most likely the torque gun was experiencing a failure on one of the sockets. If they were all under-torqued then either the torque setting was incorrectly set, or the engineers calculated the incorrect torque, or there was a total failure of the gun. With the axle lube, same applies...a gun automatically inserts a prescribed amount of lube. Either the wrong quantity was set, the grease gun was failing or the engineers calculated the incorrect qty of lube. Trust me, Ford identified what the cause was, but the process is designed to be precise and as efficient as possible, but these things do happen...there isn't a single vehicle made that doesn't end up with multiple TSBs for manufacturing issues. Building and designing cars is a very complicated business.

Received this recall on our 2021 Winnebago Adventurer with 2020 F53 chassis, after 1000 miles were already on it pre-delivery, and then drove it 3000 miles on a trip and back before receiving the notice. Have contacted multiple Ford dealers and Ford Commercial Truck centers and they either do not respond, or decline to do this service. So right now I'm stuck with an undrivable Class A. General RV does not service the chassis, and their delivery pre-check list indicates they did not check the differential fluid, even though they have it on their checklist as an option but it's marked "N". At least they're honest about it! So waiting on Ford right now for a solution, or to send out a Mobile Truck Service to check it. I think in addition to sending the recall notice they should have automatically assigned local service to get this done.

UPDATE: Found a local truck service company (E.A.B.) to check the rear gearcase fluid. They have drive over pits to make for easy access. They found no significant metal shavings/normal and found it about 1qt low on fluid. Topped off and all good. However, a new problem they found (which I know now is a common issue) is one of the sway bar bolts was completely missing/never installed. The second bolt was starting to come loose. If you have an F53 chassis I'd check your swaybar bolts. These guys are awesome and have a Ford Master Technician as Service Manager.

While I haven’t had any issues, I did receive a recall about possible engine compartment lack of insulation. I have an Entegra Odyssey 29K. I couldn’t get either of the two Ford dealers in town to return my calls. It’s like when they found out my F450 was a motorhome, I guess they thought they didn’t need to respond. Craziness! Funny do you know that most RV chassis are pulled piggy back style to RV manufacturers with one axle removed from the axle housing. This would mean that when the RV manufacturer assembled the Axel they are responsible to top said axle up to the full level. Saying that Ford is taking said Responsibility says a lot in my book. The only other way for those chassis to be transported one at a time hauled by semi flatbed or low boy trailers.

The problem is in the Chinese bearing's. This happenend on my commecial Ford 450's also.( have a fleet of them) We fixed it ourselves by cross referencing the bearings to the Japanese one's. You have to be able to work on this stuff yourself anymore or you won't be on the road. I Know that is easier said than done for alot of people. I have a heavy constuction back ground and the tools already because of that, But when you buy an RV you are going to have to learn to fix it or you won't be using it

@@EndlessRVing Yeah this has nothing to do with the Chinese this is because of terrible quality control if you leave out 4 quarts of gear oil doesn't matter who makes the bearings. In this rear-end it has to be tilted left and right to fill the bearing reservoirs they wanted to save a couple pennies and not supply fill ports on the ends.

I am at a PRIVATE repair shop as I watch this KZbin. I broke down in Kansas last September in route to Florida. Dye to covid it was going to take 3 months to repair so I traded for A 2021 Bay Star 3626 and drove it to Florida and back to Utah. That was a 5000 mile trip. I am at a repair shop as I type this and the said they put in 3 qts rear-end fluid. They said the manual says it only holds 3 1/2 quarts. So the first 5000 miles was basically empty. They cannot tell if there is damage to the bearings. Ford says they do not have the parts to fix and it could be months. I have another 5000 mile trip to N Michigan and back to Utah in 10 days. What does one do???? i will have a dog and two cats with me so I really do not want to deal with an issue on the highway. Rush Truck in Vegas said they have a wait list of 40 RV's and can't gets parts from Ford so they are refusing new recalls. what does one do!

Somehow this seems about right for Ford. My last Ford purchase was a 1987 AeroStar which my wife and kids nicknamed "the vehicle from Hell". I could write a book on that piece of crap. A few months ago I inquired about purchasing a PleasureWay Ontour 2.2 but was told orders weren't being taken because of a Ford chassis backlog. I purchased a 2022 Entergra Ethos instead and after my first 4500 miles on the Dodge Pro-master chassis no complaints about the Pro-master. I traded a 2020 Pleasureway Tofino also on the Promaster and it was a fantastic RV. Thank you for getting me over my regrets about the Ontour. Now I'm glad it worked out this way. I'm in the Seattle area. First time I drove our 2021 Bay Star off the lot, I got a "check fuel fill tube" notice on the driver's display. Checked the gas cap, etc, didn't help. My dealer told me to take it to Ford. Ford's Commercial Fleet Service website is basically worthless; most dealers listed as servicing motorhomes actually don't. When I found a dealer, they stuck me with an $888 bill for the tests that they ran - and they didn't fix anything - then they refused warranty coverage since Newmar replaced the stock fill tube with a different Ford part. To Newmar's credit, I'm told that they will be reimbursing me for this. Ford stiff-armed them as well. I also had my catalytic converter stolen ($2,000 total insurance claim) and the same Ford dealer wouldn't do the work to fix it. Now I have to wait a couple of months to get in to a different dealer an hour away for this recall. I love my Bay Star, but I won't buy another Ford product.

I feel you Charles... understand that Ford has no idea as to how each individual chassis will be modified (an RV, box truck, flatbed tow truck, etc.), and therefore it’s incumbent upon the coach manufacturer to provide for suspension adjustments. That costs money, so the RV companies usually only provide for “just enough” control. Then it’s up to you to buy the “extras” like additional sway bars, spring upgrades, steering stabilizer, etc. not really a Ford problem.

My wife and I were considering replacing our truck + trailer with a gas class A, but these types of issues have convinced us otherwise. The chassis vendors and the RV companies need to demonstrate that they are willing to work together to solve these issues before we will be willing to take the financial risk. It is unfortunate because we have seen some class A floor plans that better meet our needs and desires today. Having owned four trailers and two boats we are well aware of the unique issues that come with having these toys, but the gas class A situation is beyond our comfort level.

I am looking at this as a commercial truck driver that has owned multiple trucks and trailers over the years, and a few RV's... Just about every manufacturer is putting out crap today, they know it, we know it and the dealers know it, because like the commercial truck industry, they cannot find technicians either to fix these products. I would not let this dissuade you from purchasing a class A, as long as you understand, you are the warranty. Shop wisely, and maybe consider looking at the used market.

Ford (and other manufacturers) started throwing RV’s together with complete lack of care and quality starting with the RV purchase surge in 2020. Prior to that, they were still pretty lackadaisical, but the buying frenzy that started with the onset of the pandemic brought the greed monster to the forefront with a lot or RV manufacturers and dealers. Pure greed. I’ll stick with my stock Chevy cargo van that I put a fiberglass camper top on at Fiberine, and then built out to my specs. It’s a 2017, almost 100,000 miles and nary a hiccup. On cloudy/rainy days, the battery is charged via a battery isolator when I drive. It’s not fancy. It IS very functional. If Ford Warranties what they sell to rv mfg then legally they should be required to have a Service Network established to cover rv build conversions on their product. A lot of very sloppy "pass the buck" service has veen "allowed" to hapoen regarding rv warrsnties. A Class Action lawsuit might be what is needed to get this area of sales and service cleaned up!

Bought my 2021 Georgetown in Texas took it to Legacy Ford for the recall. Needless to say they screwed it up. When putting the new bearings in the rear hubs they bent the tone rings. When putting the hubs back together they did not remove the speed sensors resulting in them being destroyed and now I’m on my second set of speed sensors. It’s going back in to have the tone rings replaced and another set of speed sensors. Hopefully this will fix the problem. Before tearing it apart they checked the fluid level and it was Adequate. They shouldn’t of even messed with it but they wanted their money so they went ahead with the repairs. It’s going in again to be repaired, this time I am taking it to a dealer in Pennsylvania where I live and I had a long conversation with them telling them what the other dealer did. They ordered new hubs, tone rings and speed sensors and said that they will fix it under warranty. Ford was no help either. I contacted Ford to let them know what the dealer in Texas did so that they could stop payment to the dealer for the work performed. They came back with a email basically saying it was my problem and to take it up with the dealer.

This has been an issue since at least 2007. The original owner of our 2008 Winnie had the rear differential (Dana S110) rebuilt under warranty. Pinion gear and carrier bearings were worn beyond limits within 6 months. Fortunately the original owner gave us the warranty repair paperwork as evidence in case there were issues in the future. Now the “differential whine” has returned for us to deal with yet again.

My family had a 2006 F350 6.0 diesel that you could not keep running for more than 30days. It would break down on steep grades with a Trailer and put our lives in danger. Fords response to the problems was to fight you then put the same exact flawed parts in to fix it for a little while just to get you past the warranty, if you spent $40,000 on any other truck at the time you would still be driving it today I would bet there are no original 6.0 diesel owners out there, all pawned them off to someone else.

The Forums are loaded with complaints over the inability to get motorhomes on Ford Chassis repaired. The dealership that are Ford certified will only service the units they sold. There are lots of people wanting on a "Call-back". Some said they were told if they fixed it themselves of took it to a non Ford repair center, it would void their chassis warranty. So glad I'm not one o those "Victims".

Hello Mj and Izzy. Thank you for this heads up. Wow.....is it that they are just not checking fluid levels, and in this case, there was months and months of chassis's leaving with low fluids? Or, it is defective seals and such and the fluids are leaking? Bleh...I hope there are not many owners that end up getting screwed because of this and the damaged parts dont get replaced. Safe travels!!

Izzy..thank you for the update.. this is a failure on the part of Ford.. also I feel the coach manufacturer has a piece of this also since I'm sure a TON of people purchased there rig without being told that Ford basically refuses to work on them. Here is n Mississippi I have only found one repair service about 3 hours from Luanne and I who will work on the chassis. About a three month wait... So wrong.. Lee

Now is this for the commercial chassis or are the E350/450 chassis included with this? And is it the same problem with Ford dealers not wanting the E350/450 chassis too? I'm looking at getting a Class C Ford with the 7.3L, but if Ford is not going to work on them when i have a problem on the road, why bother buying their product?

I discovered the advanced recall notice less than a week after I took delivery of my new 2021 Newmar Bay Star 3626. The RV dealer shouldn’t have delivered the vehicle to us as Ford had already issued a stock hold notice to all dealers (how Ford notifies RV manufacturers is on them, but they should have and all Newmar dealers should have stopped deliveries including ours). This said, Newmar has been very helpful with numerous calls to help us including connecting us with Ford. We do have a Ford service appointment for later this month, but they will not order the parts in advance. We have had the unit into Ford to fix the brakes which was another problem - turned out both front brake pads were cracked. Ford replaced the pads and turned the rotors under warranty. We also have a steering issue with a “Service AdvanceTrac” issue which might be linked to a steering wheel alignment issue (which is a Newmar responsibility). I am disappointed in Ford’s quality issues. For reference, my prior 2015 Ford F53 chassis based Newmar Bay Star sport had zero Ford quality issues.

Back in early 90's we bought a Motorhome on a new Ford chassis. One of the rear wheel bearings had failed. Thank God we where at an honest dealership who did a great PDI before we departed. Problem was no Ford Dealerships in the area where interested in assisting. There was a Chevrolet Dealerships next door but Ford told them there where no parts available. Even though we had sign the paperwork and paid for the RV the dealership canceled the sale. I wish I could remember the Dealerships name, it was on the North side of San Antonio next to a Chevrolet Dealership about 1994. Ford is not a customer company, but neither is Chrysler I've had them refuse to honor their warranty even though every service was preformed at a Dealership. Again I got assistance from a different dealership who went to battle for me. Big companies don't care!

We've got a 2021 Bay Star on the 2020 F53 chassis that is affected by the recall. On top of the rear axle lube issue, our coach was 4-quarts low on transmission fluid when we got it. Neither the Newmar or RV One PDI included checking the transmission fluid. We got our coach home without issue but then it refused to move. Seeing your brand new coach towed is not fun. I was livid when I found out the only issue was the low fluid. Whatever happened to "Quality is Job 1"? Fortunately we have a Ford commercial dealer about 30 minutes away that will service motorhomes.

@@joeshmooo5327 Chevy/GM needs to get back in the ballgame. I'll admit, since we've started researching RV's I've been a tad leary of buying a gasser for the exact reason's everyone has talked about here. I understand that they have issues as well. I'd like to hear from those with the Chevy chasis of any issue's they've faced? Are they experiencing the same problem's? One would hope there would be more options for gassers outside of Ford. 💁‍♀️ Otherwise we're seriously contemplating a diesel pusher.
