Recalls are for safety, sync wouldn’t be considered a safety issue.....but there may be a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) out for it, they usually fix TSB’s for free too so that maybe something you want to look into.

Any updates on the part? I’m having a Bluetooth connectivity issue it connects and disconnects on its own when it’s not connect directly to usb. The lagging just started as well but only when switching radio stations. The problem just recently started only have 21k miles on my 2018 Ford F-150 Lariat

It is a safety issue when it goes crazy and distracts your attention from driving. Mine started to call numbers in my contact list. That is very distracting. I had to pull over and stop on expressway to disable link to phone to stop it. Problem is APIM large processor integrated circuit with upwards of 300 very micro-small ball solder joints. Temp stress over time fractures the small ball solder joints causing intermittent connections to processor. Software then goes crazy, sometimes freezing, sometimes running off the rails. Slow operation is processes waiting for a response that does come due to intermittent connection. Some processes have the ability to give up and exit, some processes cannot do an abort so it locks up. Ford is happy if it lasts the warranty period and it is very profitable to dealers at over $1000 replacement cost. This has been going on for over 10 years since original MyTouch Sync was first introduced. Sync 3 units on newer models are even worse. Would not hold my breath that Sync 4 is any different. You can do a reset by holding right forward skip button and radio ON/OFF button but problem will return in some amount of time. Some work fine when cold, some work when hot, depends on temp induced intermittent connection. Buying a used replacement is risky since even an honest reseller cannot be sure they are not intermittent.

I used my Mac to download the Sync 3.0 update and actually used the Mac unzipper without any issues, you just need to make sure you have one folder a 2 other files on your usb drive. The update on my 2017 Ford Escape only took about 15 minutes, I did notice that when I checked for updates within sync there was a file that was about 3/4 completed. (My Sync system connects to my home WiFi so it might have started the download process) I did plug in the usb drive with the downloaded file and completed the version 3.0 update. System rebooted just fine and all my settings were intact. I also changed my Sync skin (one they use of other Ford / Lincoln products) Looks nice and clean now. Good heads up on the processor issue, I’m wondering if the 2017 sync radios had that problem.

I hate all the electronics in my 2017 F150. Too much magic. It's GREAT when it works... but it's the very DEVIL when it goes south. Looking forward to seeing how you resolve this one, Dave!

Thats strange. I had a tough time getting my early build '16 F-150 (that came with V1.0) up to 3.0 via the flash drive and the new USB plug port. I took it to my buddy at the dealer and he somehow got it to take. I swapped the new USB plug port into our '16 Escape and had no problems at all, same flash stick. The wifes '17 Edge was new enough to do the upgrade via WiFi and that was super easy and of course with 3.0 they all now have that ability. The Apple Car Play ability is nice but sometimes gets annoying and I like the option to disable it when I like. I haven't had an issue on any of the four sync 3 equipped vehicles we've had so far with that module behind going bad.......yet! Fingers crossed. I wonder if the one in your F350 got jarred in the accident or something just enough to ruin it??

Dont go to the dealer my friend, look online, rock auto , Ebay etc. You wont get railed out so bad on the price. Dealerships rape with no lube man. Unless you got the pockets for it I would try and save ya some $$. Side note though the trucks coming along great!

Dave. The sync isn’t a safety concern... what did we do before Bluetooth, backup cameras, and navigation? It’s an amenity that we have been lead to believe is a safety feature. If your seatbelt malfunctions, then that is a bonafide safety concern and should warrant a recall.

Junkyard Dave the airbags not deploying may be because of the location of the impact, and the force of the impact. I’ve seen some nasty wrecks where some (not all of the bags have gone). The apim is only for sync related items. The Rcm (restraints control module) is what controls the airbags.

Just updated to the latest Sync 3 version and 2 issues. It is laggier and when I did the update I had a 128gb flash drive in the other port full of Mp3's. It fried the 128gb drive.

Also in Europe there are issues with the Sync3. My Sync3 in a Fiësta (MK8 Newest European model from 2018) is even crashing sometimes after an update from 2.- tot 3.0 and the navigation in the split/main screen, sometimes is not loading. But when I press the home button. Within a flash and it's there. It is a global problem. It even had maps from (bought the car brand spanking new on 31 January of 2018) 2015, now just after the update the maps are from 2017. Hey, it's 2019 and maps from 2017 are the newest????

I noticed that all demos of this update include the ability to adjust the car's temperature from the Sync system. Mine even after the update to 3.3.0 still does not show this option. Could it be that my 2018 Focus RS does not support this option? as I never had this option before .. thought it might have been a bonus as all Ford vehicles do have separate controls for this also..

Mine is up to date and this system is still complete JUNK!!!! Ford should be ashamed putting this crap in vehicles. I have a 2017 f150 and this sync system is way too slow. It literally take about 20 seconds to react when you push a button. The navigation system freezes and sounds choppy to the point we don't use it. A little cellphone can process information at turbo speeds but Ford can't figure out how to make these huge units work correctly. 45k for this freaking truck.

Bro I have a 2017 raptor which I bought in Taxes , shipped the car when I moved to the Middle East kingdom of Bahrain , the map does not show any roads any point of interests , if I zoom out or put my old address in the state it shows everything if ur subscribers knows how to fix it would mean a lot , I have update sync 3 to the latest version and it works fine expect the map issue

I found a way to fix it. Need to install a complete new version in my case I updated it to 3.3. Had to to a procedure to format the system then install the new version with the maps. smooth now.

Just connect the Car to your home WiFi and allow automatic updates! done! at least that's how I did it and I never had to use any USB.

LOL. I have a 1999 GMC Sierra with 130K on it. I bought it new. I can't see the logic paying 68K for a new truck with basically the same Vortec 5.3 engine in it. My GMC is garaged and still runs and looks new. I must admit the am/fm/CD radio does suck but everything else works fine.

if you have MFT in your vehicle, yes. you just need to go to the forum, buy some parts and have someone program your vin.

If you have the SYNC with Voice Activated Nav, you can. Go to help.ford.com/update-sync and enter your vin there, but I have the same system on my 09 f250 and didn't work. It keeps saying File Not Found.

Problem with extracting on macOS is that it skip files while unpacking archive, files missing= corrupt software. Thats why linux and windows are superior. Next time try on TempleOS.

Why put that title name? Anyways, since you have a 2017, there is a more recent version for your model year, but its unofficial up to 2019s. Its version 3.4. You can install it through cyanlabs and it uses a leaked Ford reformat tool that Ford uses at the factory, but they think its a bad idea because some people might brick their system because they did it wrong. You can download their syn3 program but only on windows, and you need a USB, and you can update through there easily!

If you have the car connected to your home wifi or any wifi (secure) it will do the updates automatically. Just make sure you enable automatic updates.

It’s not a safety problem. The reason being is not all vehicles have all the bells and whistles that come with the synk. All the cameras and backup warnings are not on all vehicles nor do they have to be yet. So they will never do a recall this problem

Aren't backup cameras required on new vehicles by the government? I purchased a new vehicle a few weeks ago and don't rely on the camera when backing up. I don't feel like it gives me an accurate depth perception. I glance at it before I start moving and use my mirrors like I always have.

@@timwall6916 1st, every Ford car has Sync, either the small 4" screen or 6.5" or 8" screen. 2nd, every new car is required to have a backup camera, for safety reasons. 3rd of all, Ford made a recall for a problem with the backup camera flickering on the explorer and many other vehicles.
