I really appreciate that my Ford Focus 16 already has 8 inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while some 2020 luxury cars don’t even have them. Knobs and touchpads are so old school now.

I've seen many people complain about the simplicity of this new Sync 3 infotainment system, but isn't that the goal? The driver should always focus on driving and if the infotainment system is too complicated, they will likely become distracted. But I guess you can't satisfy everyone.

WuWei Xu said "I've seen many people complain about the simplicity of this new Sync 3 infotainment system, but isn't that the goal?" Complaining about simplicity implies it's too simple. I saw nothing in the video that indicates Sync 3 is "too simple." Therefore, I doubt the assertion that many people complain about the simplicity.

Not the most attractive interface but it's fast and quite responsive. These should be the most important metrics with in-car infotainment. I wonder how you feel this compares to the Kia UVO and FCA Uconnect systems? In terms of responsiveness these seem to be the class leaders.

I still have no idea why someone would want either use voice command or scroll to adjust climate. Both are more complicated than using three knobs and an a/c button. The knobs and buttons are very simple, easy to see, and easily and quickly accessed.
@theevermind9 жыл бұрын
+bradh716 Agreed completely. There are fundamental rules that automakers seem to miss: - *No function/command that is used during driving should be accessed through a menu.* MFT was terrible at this as it required selecting a mode, then a screen inside that mode, then (hopefully) you can perform the function. Functions that rarely would be adjusted while driving are fine in menus, like fade/balance, screen settings, etc. - *No change should add effort to existing functions.* A coworker has a Fusion with MFT, and it has no physical controls for HVAC vents. To adjust where air blows, he has to go through MFT, which is obviously cumbersome compared to the way it used to be. His experience with MFT has turned him off of ever buying such a system again. Selling a product that makes people not want to own another of their products is an epic failure on Ford's part. - *Make/sell technology that adds value, not just something shiny & new.* The shiny & new thing is enough to get people to buy it. It's been proven by phone companies for years, but like rebates, car companies have to look past the present and consider the long-term effects. Does scrolling make sense in a car? Hell no--it requires even more driver attention to use than prior touch screen interaction (no definitive input, no tactile feedback, & you have to wait for it to stop scrolling which means longer duration of distraction). Ford seems to simply follow a 'me too' strategy of copying cell phones, never mind that phones and cars are fundamentally different applications. Like my coworker, if people have a negative experience with these systems--and given the history with MFT & quality survey results, it's safe to say consumers ARE having negative experiences--it WILL hurt future sales.

+bradh716 I agree ...activate the voice control and tell it what you want. But why do that when you can just reach and do it faster. I find this new screen and it's layout boring.

The low reliability ratings given by consumer magazines mostly derive from the My Ford Touch infotainment systems poor performance. As well, car magazines have bashed it in comparisons to other car manufacturers systems. If SYNC 3 is as good as you and others say, this might be a game changer for Ford.

Hi Alex. When will you do real-life driver test of infotainment systems. Couldn't help but notice but all of your infotainment reviews are done while the car is parked. About 80-95% of drivers interact with their infotainment systems while the car is on gear. Either the car is in motion, or the car waiting at a traffic light. But rarely when the car is in parked position. In particular, many drivers feel cheated and frustrated after the buying the car knowing many infotainment features can not be operated while the car is being driven. Which which when the majority will operate their radio, nav, etc.... Any way you can improve this review method? Thanks and more power to your vlogging business.
@justinke7299 жыл бұрын
Why bother? Apple carplay /android auto are more intuitive and the smartphone has data connections all the time, which makes the data dependent applications such as navigation much more useful. they both get updated much more often than car manufactures can update their own infotainment. The third party system like touch 3 will never gain tractions from app developer community. Just give people what they really want, Ford. Car manufacturers should focus on developing nice engines, driving systems, let the software company handle the infotainment.
@Lucky8s9 жыл бұрын
+Justin Ke Ford is giving people what they really want. Many consumers aren't tech savvy, so they're satisfied with having an in-house developed infotainment system. My mom would be one of them. Also, CarPlay and Android Auto haven't even been released on many models. The only vehicles I know of that currently work with either one of the two systems is the Honda Civic/Accord and Hyundai Sonata. Lastly, it would definitely be annoying if you had to link your smartphone via USB every time you get in the car. Once they get it automatic via bluetooth, then it'll be worthwhile. Those are just my thoughts. Peace.
@drudometkin9 жыл бұрын
+Justin Ke I like what they are doing here. I want something that is powerful and works with everything. I would never buy a car with apple infotainment since I use android. I'm sure apple people wouldn't want an android system. If ford went with apple I would never buy another ford.

not a fan of the piano black gloss finish in front of the display. It shows a ton of finger prints and or smudges. They come up with a screen design to show less prints but failed on the panel in front of it to reveal the prints and smudges. The layout in general of the screen and it's apps/features is boring and plain.

I want OEMs to start offering a cheap head unit with just a screen and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, without all the integrated features that most people will never use. Why should I be forced to pay for a high end head unit with navigation in order to get Android Auto, which negates the need for navigation? Sync3 also looks pretty dated. I know this video is 3 yrs old, but it hasn't been updated as of this comment.
