A how to guide on what I do to lift a ford territory by a extra 4 inches.
Complete with SY2 conversion and how to on running D22 Navara longer travel rear shocks.
Before doing any work on your own vehicle check your local and state government rules. I'm not mechanic so some things may not be 100% by the book but everything I've done has lasted just fine over time.

Hey mate, I’m going to do a 2” lift on my SZ titanium TCD for starters, just wondering how much trouble if any have you had with drive shafts/cv’s? Love your car and vids btw good on you for having a go at something different, respect to your skills. Cheers, kris.
@TerritoryOffroad
@TerritoryOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
2 inch suspension lift is still a good amount. You might have to look at longer shocks also. What part's are you looking to use? I've never blown a CV yet but the inner rear CV boots don't last very long on mine. Mud can build up around the rear inner CV boots and I think that is part of my problem with them ripping. You shouldn't have any problems just keep a eye on the mud build up.

Thanks heaps for the advice mate and the prompt reply! That’s great news to hear regarding the cv’s, I’ll keep an eye on the mud build up. Out of curiosity how many ks do you think you’ve done since you started playing around with lifting? As far as parts are concerned I am looking at the lovells 40-50mm lift springs, I have recently adde 1” raised Pedders springs and shocks to suit in the rear as I towed a jayco swan from south coast NSW to WA exploring and back and had it done half way as the sag was pretty bad in the rear, so I’m thinking those Pedders shocks should cope with the extra 1” height. As for the front shocks I am thinking the same Gabriel’s you have listed in this vid. What’s your thoughts on mud vs at tyres was originally thinking of going with the same tyres you have in this vid, but also considering some comforser mud tyres.
@TerritoryOffroad
@TerritoryOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
@@whytiekwhytiek1529 I didn't know lovells made a 40mm-50mm spring just a 30mm like all the other's? Just be careful of aftermarket raised springs as I've never had a set give the advertised amount of lift yet. A lot of sellers also falsely advertise more lift than what the manufacturer recommends. You might be better off getting two sets of the Superpro 10mm spring seat bushes as they will give a extra 20mm of rear lift. Rear camber may also become a problem but can easily be fixed with some offset camber bushes. The person doing the wheel alignment will know more about that. I've had no problems with the Gabriel front shocks. I was using them with raised springs but changed back to standard for a softer ride. I used a larger strut top spacer to make up the height difference. I can't say a bad thing about the BF Goodrich KO2 Tyre's. I've done a lot of kilometres on them and they still have lot's left. The only reason I got the CF3000 tyre's was because of how wet it's been. So far I can't say anything bad about them but haven't had them that long. It's been about 3 year's from when I started lifting my territory. Didn't start out as extreme but. I'd say I've done around 100 thousand kilometres with it lifted. I have a lot more information I put up on the Facebook group also. Territory Offroad

The blue one I done for a mate and he is loving the upgrades. My own car is a little different with some extra mods. This is what I find with mine. Acceleration is still not what I want the BTR 4speed let's me down there. After driving the blue one with ZF 6speed I will definitely be doing that conversion as it's a lot better. Handling and stability is so so much better. I still get a bit of wheel rubbing from time to time (Blue one also). I'm still working on mine and I'm about to update it to the same newer shock setup like the one in the video. I'm also now looking at doing some more custom work to make things even better. I've had a few different types of front shocks but Gabriel are the best available. In the rear I've gone for a better D22 shock now as the cheap one's started playing up. They have adjustable damper control. Will see how they go in the long run. Fuel consumption was never going to be that good with the bigger tyre's and retune done to mine. I get about 400-450kms per tank. That's not letting it get to low and using 98. If you google FORD TERRITORY CAMPING & OFFROAD the Facebook page should come up.

Great job mate, what would I need to do to get about 3 inches or enough to not need welding and extended brake lines?
@TerritoryOffroad
@TerritoryOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to weld the rear arm's just don't run the extra 30mm Jeep spacers and to level it out don't use the 25mm bolt on spacers up front. You may have to cut and hammer more things if your still wanting to run the 245-70-17 tyre's and they would still rub a little. 245-65-17 would fix no problems and that would give you about a extra 2.5inches of ground clearance. I'd still recommend upgrading brake lines but as they are known to fail. With the lift above and running stock rear shocks you would be fine to run standard length but.

@@TerritoryOffroad G'day Keith. Your videos make me really want an SY2 haha. So without the 30mm Jeep spacers in the rear and 25mm strut top spacers in the front, you only get 2.5 inches of lift instead of 4 inches? Is this with or without larger tyres? Cheers mate 🍻
@TerritoryOffroad
@TerritoryOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
@@SwaggingWithBen you will also need the larger tyres to get the extra left. With raised king springs and superpro 10mm bushes Rear and a 245 65 17 that fit's a standard rim you would get about 2 - 2.5inches of extra clearance.

@TerritoryOffroad
@TerritoryOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
@@SwaggingWithBen yea 245-70-17 should fit under without the extra spacers. I'm not sure if they would clear the front upright but on standard rims. Most the cutting is just the inner plastic fenders and bumper. At the back of the front wheels you will need to fold the metal join and hammer it as flat as possible.

How are the Gabriel shocks? I payed a bit more for KYB was not impressed much at all
@TerritoryOffroad
@TerritoryOffroad Жыл бұрын
KYB have less travel then Gabriel so that would play a big part in it. SX, SY 03/2004 to 09/2007 KYB - 133mm of travel Gabriel - 145mm of travel Monroe - 152mm of travel SY, SY2 10/2007 to 03/2011 KYB - 128mm of travel Gabriel - 145mm of travel Monroe - 152mm of travel KYB and Monroe have a internal rebound spring that also pulls the shaft back down about 50mm. It's not a big deal when installed but does make installing the spring and top hat a lot harder. Gabriel doesn't have this so are very easy to install. I know Gabriel have a little less travel compared to Monroe but for all round performance they are my favourite front shock for a territory. I currently run the Gabriel SY2 style shock with a standard SZ spring and a 60mm bolt on strut top spacer plus longer SZ lower forks.

Howdy. Trying to understand why you change the sy2 control arms etc. yours already looks to be an sy2? I ask as mine is an 06 Sy. I have just 3 months ago replaced all those parts with new OEM sy parts. Is there a reason they are changed? I didn’t see anything to indicate why they are changed.
@TerritoryOffroad
@TerritoryOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
The blue territory is a SY series 1 they still have the old ball joint setup that is prone to failing. When ford released the SY series 2 (I think in 2009) they revised the ball joint problems with a new and better setup. All models up until the SY series 2 saw a design that had constant tension on the ball joints which resulted in the joint failing causing early signs of damage. In some extreme cases causing the wheel to detach from the suspension. This is why I say any territory that is going to get used offroad should upgrade to the SY series 2 ball joint setup.

I don't see why not. Front strut setup might be a bit different but so not sure about front springs but the spacers are the same.

The front raised king springs are different and you wouldn't have to do any of the SY2 upgrades. So in a way it's a lot simpler.
