Ive got to do this job this week and im NOT looking forward to it after seeing this ive warned the Customer after watching this! Im glad you showed me the true fitting video and not a start and finished without problems like most youtube videos !

Great video, It's nice to see the problems that occur when doing jobs like this, especially on older vehicles. It is all very nice seeing these mechanics in their pristine workshops, wearing their lovely clean polo shirts and their rubber gloves, working on benches with rows of brand new snap on tool cabinets in view, doing demo videos promoting companies, and themselves, using brand new parts that haven't seized through years of wet, salty, muddy roads spraying crap all over them, but real mechanics , like you and I know that is just a fairy tail. I just done the bottom ball joints on my old mk6 transit, the n/s took 3 hours, the new one just didn't want to fit nicely, I ended up jacking it in, long story, the o/s took 45 mins most of that was getting the old one out, the new one practically fell in nice and snug without even tapping it home. I will certainly be keeping an eye out for your videos in the future. so down to earth and grounded.

Good effort with that snapped torx bolt. A few ‘mechanics’ I know would’ve just fired the hub back on with the other 4 bolts and moved on. It’s true what they say; a half hour job is only 1 snapped bolt away from a 3 day ordeal!

Thanks for dropping a comment mate. When I make videos I secretly like it when it doesn't go to plan (not at the time of course! Lol) as it shows how things really happen and how to deal with it. Customers just think "you only have to remove a couple of bolts" and wonder what's taking you so long! Lol

Hub nut, spin wheel 5 times, torq to 250nm, spin again 5 times, torq 420nm. Hub to disk nuts 69nm 5 t50 torx bearing bolts 53nm

Used this vid to change front discs on a 2.4 rwd as no other vid explained how to remove abs relucture from rear before pulling hub from knuckle.... +1 for that

Should have put a bit of heat on these bolts and you would have been ok

T50 is broke and is stuck in one of the heads and when I say it’s stuck it is welded any idea what I can do? Just cut the head of the bolt and beat it off from the back?

I've been in similar situations before so I feel your pain. I would only cut/drill the head off the bolt as an absolute last resort... otherwise you might end up having to drill and tap a new hole like I did in this video. Getting the broken t50 out of the head one way or another and preserving the bolt would be best. Access makes it difficult though. I'd go at it a cold chisel through the hole in the hub.... even if you chiseled one side of the torx bolt enough to get under the broken t50 and get it out. As long as you leave enough of the bolt head left then you can try again with a new t50.

Thanks I will give it a try. I think I’m going to end up taking the hub off from the shock and just getting a new/second hand hub because my heart is broke!Cheers for the reply I’ll give it a go!

I cut the disc off to get better access and as you know it’s still not great.😂

Thank you for you message. I've bought them a few times from ebay. Last couple of times the hub didn't have the wheel studs on them. So you need to reuse your old ones (just hammer them out). To fit them to your new hub screw the wheel bolts on and it pulls the stud through if you know what i mean) Hope this helps.

@K Wallace I can't remember off the top of my head. It was ebay though so have a search for "transit hub" etc and hopefully you will see them. Some don't have the wheel studs on then but this is OK as you can recycle the studs from your old hub. Havnt bought one for quite a while as every transit bearing I've done recently I didn't have time to wait on eBay, so just went to the local parts supplier and got the bearing on its own.

For the full hub and bearing I got from ebay. If you can get the complete unit it saves alot of messing about. If you just got the bearing you need to cut the old one off an press onto the hub.

@@paulnicoll1 you could maybe just buy a bearing. If you have a grinder you could carefully cut the old bearing off... then take the hub flange and new bearing to a local garage... don't imagine they would take more than 20 quid to press it on for you as you have done the hard work! Lol

Never buy a white transit. They rust far quicker than other colours. I have 2 exactly d same vans on 09 plates. White one is rotten and black metallic is still good

I mostly work on transits so I know exactly what you mean about rust! Someone told me years ago (when the mk6 was still available) about the difference between whites and colours and I have noticed that myself over the years. Maybe different assembly plant, better paint, etc... vin number will give a clue to where it was made.
