Excellent tip on giving the regulator a whack, brought the reg on my XC back to life and now I know I need to replace it...or keep whacking it. 😁

G'day mate! Ahh nice! that trick also works for the starter solenoid on these things too. Can't remember if your XC has one or not. That crusty wags of yours is progressing nicely! I am jealous of the amount of shed time you seem to have!! Cheers mate and hope all is well!

Nice job,old regs can be opened up & adjusted if mechanical,solid state ones for get it 👍 I did same in the end as you on the fairmont with bigger alt. & inbuilt reg.

G'day Jaz! Cheers mate - yeah I heard the old ones could be pulled apart and fixed up. Truth be told i ended up giving the connection a clean up and that seemed to fix the issue as well after going back and forwards between the two. Agree mate going internal and getting a bigger unit is the way to go if its not trying to a period correct car - and running additional accessories. What do you drive yourself mate? Don't let him fool you kids, he knows what he's doing. Anyone who removes the NEG terminal first and replaces it last is on to something for a good reason.

Must admit I learnt the hard way on this one Mel - Arc'd a few spanners in my day knocking them against the terminals or on the back of the alternator...more than likely do it again too!
