How does the bike carbs handle cold starts because some people say they can't start in the morning even when the choke is pulled out so they have to be manually primed with fuel. How do you sort this problem out. Awesome vids BTW 👌
@DanstengineeringCoUk
@DanstengineeringCoUk 2 жыл бұрын
The choke works very well. There is something amiss if someone is having to go to those lengths to start the car.

I have a Ford Mondeo mk1 1.8i engine and wuold like to mount it on a Ford fiesta mk3 and mount some carburettors, can i use the original engine ignition or do it need to mount an additional control unit ? Thak you.

It would be best with a standalone ignition only ECU such as the nodiz: danstengineering.co.uk/Nodiz-Pro-Ignition-ECU-Ford-Zetec-Plug-and-Play-Pack-Gen-X?search=nodiz%20zetec

What size pilot jet and Mai. Jets would I start with for a Sohc d16 honda engine.
@DanstengineeringCoUk
@DanstengineeringCoUk Жыл бұрын
we rarely change pilot jets. likely 140 mains as a starting point but all carbs vary.

Great content! What size main jets are you running?
@DanstengineeringCoUk
@DanstengineeringCoUk 3 жыл бұрын
on an 1800 we would normally start at 150 main jets.

can you tell me how you wired the fuel pump. i did mine to come on at 100rpm but it doesn't work so i wanted to see how you did it. what wire went where.

Hi, if it's a bike pump it just needs a live and an earth via a relay.

@@DanstengineeringCoUk thanks! I see on that link the kit comes with a bike fuel pump can this be swapped for the fuel regulator as in the video instead?

Question does the bike carbs has to be tune with the nodizpro??
@DanstengineeringCoUk
@DanstengineeringCoUk 3 жыл бұрын
The nodiz is optional, a traditional distributor can be used or any basic OEM ignition system.

Fitting bike cvarbs without having 'correct' intake length from original air box is losing you a lot of power unless your doing some extensive modifications inside carbs. fuel shut off valves, may need float height re-setting if changed. Use specific service manuals as so far I haven't seen it done properly anywhere on You-Tube.. What about carb synchronisation? Throttle plate settings are adjustable on almost all multi-cylinder bike carbs and fuel injected bikes (Honda removed adjusters about 2010 on some models). Fuel screws 2.5 turns out is generally shows pilot jets are probably too small but below 3 turns out is almost always OK. Don't screw in too tight as there is a small 'needle' at tip of screw which is easy to break off in carb body (plus washers, springs, o-ring to get lost when you take things apart) ALL modern bikes will have vents into air box or gas recirculating canister, haven't had atmospheric venting since late 80's. There are really only two main carb manufacturers from japan, Kei-Hin and Mikuni. Hitachi and CVK make carbs for some manufacturers but in less quantity and alternative parts can be really hard (or impossible) to get hold of

Carb synchronisation goes without saying, all our kits are balanced before they leave. The airbox is irrelevant, we've taken the carbs off an entirely different engine with twice the rpm and completely different head design. The fact we no longer run the airbox is insignificant. The carbs are tuned on the dyno based on AFR readings and best torque, just like any other induction setup.
@DanstengineeringCoUk
@DanstengineeringCoUk 3 жыл бұрын
In regards to atmospheric venting - again it doesn't matter. Atmospheric pressure is atmospheric pressure regardless of if you are Breathing it from open air or inside an airbox or canister.

@@DanstengineeringCoUk 'That was an interesting reply, I know it takes a while to get part throttle steady state running even close to what is actually needed particularly if airflow isn't high enough to maintain slide position when slide can 'bounce' Personally I've found some bike carbs to be almost impossible to set up other than completely stock on bike they were designed for (all 'early' Honda Kei-Hin,Mikuni are much much easier) 'Atmospheric pressure' will be variable with stock airbox, ~nominal 14.7 at sea level, and dropping as rpm increases then increasing~2psi + above normal if bike has 'ram air'.

where can i buy the throttle cable kit?
@1crazypj
@1crazypj 3 жыл бұрын
usually it's just 1/16" diameter 'Bowden' (twisted strand high tensile steel) cable with an external sheath. on motorcycles, you can probably find 2mm cable in bulk online or local cycle shop (if such things still exist?)
