This is exactly what happened to my 2005 project F-150. I did the timing kit, oem phasers, M340HV, 5w-30, etc, but I left the original VCT solenoids knowing I could replace them later if needed. Sure enough, 500 miles later and I was getting P0021 and a rough idle when randomly pulling into parking lots and the driveway. Thanks again, your videos and hard work is much appreciated.

i have a 05 150 too. several years ago the motor acted like it was going to jump out of the truck. took it to the ford store and a few thousand dollars later it was fixed. just 2 or 3 years ago it did the same thing. took it to a friend and he replaced a vct solenoid. just last week it happened again. it had 13 codes. i changed the oil and put 2 new duralast vct valves in and all is well. thanks, to all the youtube, ford mechanics.

this was a valuable advisory for those of us doing a timing job. I have worried some about what may not go right and if any parts would not be up to snuff, on the job I have ahead of me. There have been a lot of you tube comments from channels featuring 3 valve timing issues that reveal not every job goes well and there are complexities of the parts and repair to be regarded with due caution. This video lays out everything was done right, just amounts to a premature component failure, even though it was the best part available. A guy has to keep in mind these possibilities and for sure use the highest level of parts quality available, which for this application is genuine ford factory replacement parts. Stuff happens!

If it has a broken exhaust stud, it has an exhaust leak. Once the engine warms up, it gets quieter as the metal expands Sometimes the manifolds will crack and warp which can cause the studs to snap. It's a pain, but upgrade to stainless steel nuts and bolts to avoid this in the future I only know this after replacing both manifolds on mine- it had 5 broken studs between both sides but didn't really leak bad enough to tick loudly because of rust

I have a quick question. I have a 2007 f150 the 5.4 l 3 valve. I just replaced the cam position sensors and she starts to chug at idle a little bit here and there. The question I have is that well-known tick that these engines have is on the right hand bank and upon startup it doesn't do it right away, it starts after it's ran for about 30 seconds. Could that be a lash adjuster?
@marcustrebil143 жыл бұрын
you mention oil pressure and volume issues?? I believe thats the problem I have with a 2006 Expedition with P0022 and I replaced the vct solenoid. However sometimes when it is hot and i come to a stop it gets rough running and trips the check engine.
@JonD831111 Жыл бұрын
Question here. I know this might make me sound stupid. Just want to start off i have learned a significant amount about these engines (especially the phaser stuff) from you videos, they are very on point. My buddys truck I'm trying to help him with is throwing the p0011 and p0021 code (factory oem phaser, after market cheapo vct's, but brand new vct's). When I data log the truck the only time the phasers appear to be off is at partial throttle mainly only when you are just maitaining speed. They stay around 40 advanced when maintaining on adverror, and when it is doing that the duty cycle is at 100%. Short of him just buying new oem phasers and vct's I'm having a hard time decifering if this would more than likely be a phaser or vct issue. Thanks for any advice or which one you would lean more to being this issue.

Do you work for a dealer or yourself? Can you do a video on your experience? Warranty times management. Being a Ford master tech and a good one, I’ve left the dealer due to the craziness, only tech with five apprentices, cracking time limits and taking advantage of customers. I now live watching threw your videos. I got a city job and make more money but sure miss the adventure of finding the hard diags and keeping up with the latest of technology!
@Sheeeeeeeeeeeeiiitt3 жыл бұрын
Curious, if you were a customer and brought your 5.4 3v into a the dealership to have all of the timing serviced what are the things you take into consideration upon showing up? Who does the service adviser choose to complete the service? New guy who needs experience or someone more senior who pays close attention to detail? This is all assuming the dealership doesn’t talk you out of having the timing service performed and or tells you to just drive it and invest in a new engine when the time comes (which may not be bad advice given the gentlemen’s truck in this video). Genuinely curious as this is a situation where experience seems to be very key and there is little room for error. Genuinely curious, not taking shots at anyone in the profession but it seems the business model is designed to exploit rather than provide genuine service. All that training and experience you earned over the years...hopefully if you ever get back into that line of work it’s for someone whom manages a shop like Bryan. Transparency and integrity will make dealership far more money and i’m sure their techs would enjoy doing what they once loved. Again not trying to press buttons just curious given my personal experiences. Thank you
@craigbarker10773 жыл бұрын
We got a new service manager. Ripped people off. Because of her lack of understanding warranty work always got rejected so she retailed a lot of stuff. Charges 20$ for installing wipers....made the dealership a whack of money the first year, got her bonus but the next year suffered because of lack of returned customers. The techs got dragged into a meeting saying we need to find more things wrong because our numbers are hurting. If a customer wanted a timing job done on a 5.4 and they were keeping the vehicle. Assuming the chain didn’t eat the front cover and oil pump and if cam caps were not damaged I treated it like the 6.0 diesel.... a package deal...chain, phasers,sprockets, updated solenoids tensioners and offer the melling oil pump.
