As NATO leaders father for a summit in Lithuania the war in Ukraine shows no sign of abating.
Thousands of foreign nationals have travelled to Ukraine to support the counter offensive against Russia - some are leaving after it became too much.

No you didn't get this straight. But not your fault. I like Sky News but this video report typifies the problem with big media. They just tried to make a story about nothing. Filled it with fluff, some war footage, some words from a solder, carefully edited to work with a narrator. This story makes no sense really.

The atrocity they are referring to is the fact that both sides are murdering each other and leaving the dead on the battlefield . You have to remember the vast majority of those who volunteered to help the Ukrainians fight this war are not prior service or ex military . They are mostly civilians . Who have never seen what war really is before this experience. So to their minds it's an atrocity. To a more harden soldier who has seen previous wars it's just another thing that happens. Because those who have seen wars are use to the fighting and seeing the results of fighting. And are capable of justifying the situation. Civilian volunteers with no military experience are not use to the sights , sounds and smalls of warfare. It's really that simple. And trench warfare is especially brutal because much of it is done within close quarters. What has been going on in Ukraine has been trench warfare which is exactly what WW1 was only this time with more advanced weapons being used .

There are only 3 of the 12 assault brigades in operation now and they are taking a big toll on Russian artillery and supplies. This is the softening up phase and it is exactly what was expected by those in the know. The Russian general who was sacked for trying to pass the truth up the chain said exactly this, that Russian counter battery operations were non-existent and their artillery is suffering. The talk of lightning advances was a sensationalist media narrative aimed at a Western public with silly expectations and short attention spans.

Yes, you will see lots of dead and mangled bodies. That's what happens in real War. You guys claim to have combat backgrounds, but I doubt it. During my years in Service I worked with the British SAS, as well as the Brit SBS, during NATO exercises. The Brits are Top Tier warriors. I totally admire them. @@brianbennett3435 I think what many people forget who say "Zelensky should make peace" is that the suffering doesn't end when a peace deal is signed. Any Ukrainian in the areas occupied by Russia will suffer greatly, and Russia will make sure that they can soon conquer the rest of Ukraine. That is why one of Russias demands for a peace deal is that Ukraine can join neither NATO nor EU and has only a tiny army in future: so that Russia can just attack again once it rebuilt its army. Ukraine will cease to exist unless it can join NATO because Russia will attack it again. And any chance of getting the occupied regions back are gone once you give Russia a couple of years to build up defenses. And once Russia has conquered the rest of Ukraine, the real suffering of Ukrainians will begin. Because if you give Russians power over Ukrainians you end up with fckd up crimes like the Holodomor. Not to mention that as soon as Russia conquered Ukraine and spent some time licking its wounds it will go for either Georgia or Moldova next. So the suffering doesn't end. It continues for Ukraine, and spreads to the next country. Asking Ukraine to just surrender is like asking a woman, who is attacked by some drunk rapist, to just follow him home and let him chain her up in the basement and abuse her for decades to come, and as you can't see that abuse you pretend there is no problem.

As for Ukrainians being slaughtered, they have always tried to minimise casualties and they are doing it quite well. Legit sources from within the Ukrainian military say that their casualty rate has not increased greatly with this offensive and Russian casualty rates are still high. They are quite confident that they are wearing down Russians to the point where they will be able to make major breakthroughs in a month or so. Without artillery the Russians are unable to perform and that point will eventually arrive. @@nerdyali4154 Mate, Ukrainian goverment prohibited filming cementeries, Stoltenberg at his visit in Kiev mentioned wast, fresh cementeries near railroad tracks that he saw, civilians have problems with burying the dead because there are problems with finding place for them to do so in many places, there were protests in Ukraine about it, nobody wants his grandma to rot in the living room. Situation is way worse than Russian MOD reports, they admitted that they have information about Ukrainien loses near front from Ukrainian radio transmissions they recive, but we have to take into account a few things, they do not have information from behind the front lines about casaluties from rocket, artillery and bomb strikes and commanders of ukrainian military might be reporting lesser casaluties than they actually have. So far Russians mobilized 390 thousands new men? Around that if we include volunteers, and they did not move to any next steps of mobilization so far yet, even more to say they expelled thousands of wagner fighters that did not wanted to jain regular army to belarus, they do not seem like they need more men, they seem to be pretty calm about it, while you can see hundreds of videos of forcefully mobilized people in Ukraine, and it is only accelerating, in autumn of last year zelensky bragged about milion men army ukraine created, yet they need more and more, i will leave calculations to you. I think situation is exactly as bad as Macgreggor or Ritter says, at least during offensive.

The Russians used true atrocities against foreign mercenaries - they do not allow themselves to be killed as they are used to in weak countries and ... Oh horror !! ..they themselves have the audacity to hunt invincible hunters !!! Western countries, after the disappearance of the deterrent force in the face of the USSR, got used to impunity all over the world and, having received a natural and full-fledged blow to the arrogant face, are sincerely indignant, because attacking others is the legal prerogative of only the West. The United States first created the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, now it supports the new terrorist Nazi organization 'Ukraine'. Al-Qaeda was not enough?

*_Who_* exactly do you think is a hardcore military? I hope you weren't referring to the Russian army. Lol. How embarrassing. You must be Russian if you actually believe that. You would have needed to grow up isolated from reality and immersed in Russian nationalism and propaganda. Let me guess, you probably also believe that Russia ever had "the second best military in the world" (or second strongest, second largest, second whatever). When in reality all it ever was, really, was second-rate.

Those who say Ukraine has done well in this war are funny....a Nato trained military since 2014 was laid to waste in less than 3 months. People forget that this is about the 10th time ukraine is massing up normal people to fight or go train again. Ukraine has received nearly twice what Russia spends on it military in a year in weapons aid. I bet taliban and the Iraqi government would have performed better if they received a quarter of this support during their own wars.

You are talking nonsense but that's my opinion. Here is Prigozhin's: "I think the Ukrainian army is one of the most powerful armies today," "They have high levels of organisation, training and intelligence. They have various weapons and furthermore, they can operate with equal success any systems: Soviet, NATO, whatever. And they are looking at their losses philosophically. Everything is aimed at the highest goal as it was for us during the Great Patriotic War. But more technologically and precisely".

@stevesandgroper3241 the very fact that you think Prigozhin is the go to guy for your analysis is simply class misleading. Wagner is nothing without Putin and the Russian government. All their engagements across the world is as a result of the Kremlin's maligned activities and foot print it wants to keep covert. So for you think Prigozhin was going to overthrow something that feeds him was very amateur of any observer and indeed proves the fact that most westerners are being more emotional and sentimental about this war than facts.

Wagner is just as you have described "mindless mercenaries" and they had plenty of success against the Ukranian forces. Plenty of the Wagner forces are directly recruited from prisons and fighting for little more than a chance to eventually be freed from incarceration. They ( Wagner) will have little understanding of the war and are not particularly invested in it either.... so id say your comment is very flawed.
