Thank you for the video. The Danish man can thank his lucky stars that he recovered anything. I think the judge was extremely fair in arranging a deal outside of a court ruling. I am not going to pick on Thai women in general. If you’re in the USA, UK, Australia or Thailand etc, trying to turn a Bar girl or a Stripper into a homemaker just does not work. I have very little sympathy for the guy, but I also understand that the Thai lady took advantage of his Naïve trust in her. The guy should’ve hired an attorney before he started sending money to his Bar girl sweetheart. He could’ve set up a renewable 30 year lease contract so he would own the house and would lease land from her family. What did he do wrong? The same thing men do wrong all around the world and not just in Thailand: You can take the girl out of the bar but you can’t take the bar out of the bar girl. File this under: “I married a bar girl stripper”. You can pretty much tell how the story ends just from the title.

I wish more women worked in the construction trade. We have annual conventions for Women in Constructipn where we have women around the world like African , Philippines everywhere who is interested in constriction and start there own business. It's a sad state of affairs but he's been through life and should have known better. I have seen and heard of these cases happening thru decades of living in South East Asia. Even in cases where the woman gets it all it will often become like gravel in her mouth. A house, a car, a resort requires maintenance and taxes and often the women do not have the resources to fund that. Also if she gets money she will have family and friends descend like vultures putting extreme pressure to give to them. In addition they often are not good at managing money spending it like it is endless. One case, among many, here in Philippines the gf got a beautiful resort worth more than US$1 million, 3 expensive cars and a lot of cash. After getting rid of her "husband" within 4 years she ended up absolutely broke and worse off than how she was before she met the man. To make it worse her arrogance and rude treatment of the poor people around her to show off her wealth was atrocious. She ended up hated, disrespected and a joke. She now works as a dishwasher at a cheap road--side canteen and sleeps in a tent.

This is a VERY familiar situation I was in with a woman I married in the Philippines. One exception is the house was built on her dead grandfather's land of which she told me that it was her land. Later, land documents revealed that the land was not her land as she originally stated. I divorced her when I started seeing a scam and settled the divorce while giving her the house with the American divorce under duress. The Philippines does not have a divorce, only annulments so I might see a separate settlement under the annulment. Pure scammer. She is after another American while divorced American style to me when being married as a Philippine to me.

I read up on divorce in the Philippines. It's next to impossible for Filipinos but a foreigner married to a Filipino can get a divorce. The problem with land is that relatives of the grandfather could come later to contest the deed and lay claim to the land. So if you got a house built on the land then there are serious issues when both spilt up.

This happens everywhere in the world. When you chose a lady to stay with be sure she is from a good background and not forced to work in a beer bar. I am married to a Thai woman. Hi. Interesting case. That's the real trick : the "common law" and many others in Thailand's justice are so fuzzy, that in many cases lawyers are required for a fair issue. My pov is the judge work was excellent : an agreement is always better than a judgment following the letter only. It was the woman interest not continue stubornly, and keeping on the unsharable asset. For your question : yes, the man made mistakes to "give" that money,..,for me it is part one of big mistake..to let the cash flow under no control. And the woman, made the common mistake thinking "his money is my money". The conditions of the relationship beginning (beer bar) is not a cause : it can happen with a more wealthy woman too, don't believe richer or smarter people are not as much greedy.

I do not see this as a legal precedent as it was not a court judgement. It is a good example of a Thai judge negotiating an court ratified agreement. The judge saved face for Thailand by striking a compromise agreement between the falang and his Thai partner. The Foreign man sending money to a woman he had known for such a short period of time was quite naive. He put all of that money at risk. The woman clearly took advantage of a silly old man. This was ethically bad but not illegal. It is always bad business to build a house on somebody else’s land. The land owner can deny access to the land. Tourism for older falangs is now too expensive with too many rules, regulations and harassing requirements. I doubt many falangs will build houses for Thai ladies in the future. It is my understanding that Thailand only recognises marriages officially registered with the government. Unregistered Temple marriages have no legal standing. Living together or De Facto marriage does not exist unless there are children from the couple that require family law protection. Foreign men should not expect the return of money or assets when a relationship breaks down unless the property is purchased by the man and in the man’s name. Do not take my opinion, see a Thai lawyer if you have a problem.

This case really highlights a fact that very few know about Thailand and its its justice system. I married my Thai wife just over a year ago and we are both happy. After the traditional wedding, we carried out the formal marriage, which was lots of paperwork and queues ... and while we were doing this, I noticed a foreign man with several 'agents' and a Thai girl. My wife explained that the man was actually there to get divorced (so the agents were there to represent him) and the assets would be split between him and his wife. I have had a similar experience with a good women in a different country. Marriage after our first week together. However being a very insecure human my first sign to turn back was the attitudes of different agencies appearing somewhat suspicious to my behavior and why I sought to marry someone I'd met but once. While they said nothing directly to me, they questioned her considerably. As the months past I realized she had a hot temperament and as most know women can be quite difficult when hormones kick in. Their reaction is quite different than men. There usual argument is that your not supportive of their feelings and in a courtroom the lawyers win with this argument. I decided to get to know her better and not get married, we are still in love after many years, but stayed within the safety net of being single. No one can really see if a marriage will be successful, however what destroys most marriages are other parties, children, grandkids etc. My advice to anyone considering marriage don't be fooled, the courts will never take your side, and a lawyer will always accept a case as long as they're paid.

In my opinion, theThai Judge was very fair. The Danish gentleman made a wrong choices and paid for (loosing 50% & agony). However, such cases (bar girl as GF or wife) seem to be exceptions rather than a rule. Anyways, good vlog. Take it from me I,ve lived in Vietnam, also Thailand on a few separate occasions. And from what I,ve seen and experienced, they are exceptionally great people. And the great thing I can honestly say it was all worthwhile, I pretty much was never in any situation i didn't bring on myself. And if there was times I thought I could of done differently, it never really cost a fortune. I was maybe lucky maybe wise to not get to involved or married. This appears to be another 'Love You Long Time' story. Glad at least this ended OK and he didn't lose everything. Along the way, he should have seen a few red flags, i.e. 1. a bar girl, 2. from Northeast 3. (very) short courtship 4. asking for loads of cash in a short time etc. Anyway, on one hand, i do hope that these Thai girls would stop searching for their preys. one reason this happened, is that the Dane (not Danish) had no choice as he is not allowed to buy house under his ownership. Hence, it is only fare that Thai government make some rule to either, record all the marriage and then force couple to sell house and divide the money equally, or have the party who retains the ownership to compensate the other one financially for the property. Afterall, we all must remember that world was created (by god, nature, sphagetti, whoever you believe...) without border. Humans created borders. Hence, we must watch after each other country's citizens too.

Do not change the law because a Dane has done something stupid. See a Lawyer before building a house. See a lawyer before sending millions to a partner (you met in a bar) that you hardly know. He did not have to buy a house. If the law is changed every falang that spends time with a Thai will find themselves sued for their assets. Many have millions back home and children waiting for their inheritance. To the best of my knowledge there is no common law wife or De Facto wife in Thailand unless there are children from the liaison, then it becomes family law to protect the children. If the man keeps his money invested outside of Thailand and rents he has very little exposure. Eventually the woman risks old age with nowhere to live and nothing to live on. having lived in both places, your odds are much better in the Philippines. They are more adaptable to western men, speak english, and are seriously marriage oriented in a country with no divorce.
