Actually it was the Khoi-San people German settlers actually noticed that the khoi slaves were able to speak to the all other slaves and easily kicked up their indigenous languages. Male Khoi slaves were then sort of domesticated and taught German so that they could communicate to all slaves and the khoi slaves incorporated the other languages such as Khoi, Dutch, English, Arabic etc forming Kaaps Hollands . Therefore all the slaves found it easier to learn the Dutch derivative because parts of their language was incorporated into Kaaps Holland and they could communicate with slave owners. That is why female khoi slaves were first used as domestic workers because they were able to somewhat understand German and could be given instructions

Although I have yet to travel outside of South Africa, many of my friends from other countries say that one big difference between South Africa and other countries is that (and I paraphrase), "The people here are so friendly!" And my South African friends' experiences overseas supports this statement. A simple thing like a friendly conversation with a cashier is not nearly as common elsewhere in the world as it is here. I might be very biased, but I think we South Africans are pretty amazing. 😊

The majority of White South Africans do not bother to learn about Black South African cultures, and the majority of Black South Africans do not bother learning about White South African culture. I on the other hand DO. My knowledge of African culture might surprise you. I did not learn it from a book. I learned it from truly spending time with my African friends, in their homes, Kasi style. I can speak Sesotho, and I am busy learning isiXhosa. My Dad was fluent in isiXhosa as he grew up in the old Transkei. I guess he was nice enough, but I always get so frustrated at hearing foreigners speak about South Africa. What is 'Black Culture'? What is 'White Culture'? And just because Afrikaners are stereotypically white does not mean that we are European. Boerewors and Biltong are not European. Our Culture is not European. My family has been to Europe. It takes a lot more than the colour of your skin to fit it with a culture. And I guess English people are just 'normal' and have no culture, right? I just want people to think before they speak.

I think SA will be great to come visit: beautiful diverse nation. BUT living in SA is a different story: some of the highest tax in the world, which gets stolen by our government elite, which means no maintenance on any infrastructures (power outages, potholes everywhere, no removal of garbage, horrible public hospitals, corrupt police, etc). Not even speaking about our criminal system: the highest rape number globally! Petty criminals (thieves and armed robbers) even get let out by the president because it is his birthday. Horrible horrible place to live.

Bread and pap contribute to increased insulin levels, insulin resistance and ultimately to type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, which are fuelling the obesity epidemic in South Africa. We all know how fatal the above are

Depth & Laughter I love pap as much as the next South African but I stopped eating pap many years back due to the insulin resistance I heard about. I’m into bodybuilding so the ability to lose and gain weight whenever I feel like it is important to me. Pap is really for braai every now and then. But I think some just eat it because it’s affordable...maybe.

Why live in South Africa if you have to live behind electric fences, set house alarms before bed, nah South Africa is in the dark ages
@gidi3250
@gidi3250 4 жыл бұрын
Afrikaans developed on it's own especially after all connection with the Netherlands was cut off after the cape colony became a British colony and some Boers had a great trek into the interior of South Africa but over time Afrikaans would borrow certain words from the 3 other european languages in the Boer nations or the British colony these languages are French, German and British. The British even took 2 words from Afrikaans after the second Boer war witch is Trek and Kommando witch became Commando in English. Apartheid segregation wasn't only on blacks but all color groups in South Africa, the withes, blacks, coloureds, indians where all separated from each other and not allowed to mingle and have families. Most tension between the people of South Africa are between the older generations and young people who are easily swayed by the older people mostly their parents but overall most South Africans don't really care about race anymore and from the 20 years of living I have in South Africa people care more about doing their jobs getting payed and hating Eskom (the country's only electricity provider). And bakkie isn't British English it's Afrikaans. In my 20 years in South Africa I've never been robed however some of my friends have but only because the have to walk through a bad crowd hanging around the entrance and exit of their township other than that their is the occasional breaking in and robbing here and their how ever stealing wires and cars are more common and a year or 2 back their was a group of 7 or 8 walking around at night shooting people in the streets and stealing whatever they could. On the news and reddit and Facebook you hear a lot about the Cape flats and the shootouts that happen their even had the army pussyfoot around it last year but that's the big one where a lot a crime related stuff goes down other places are quite and usually have a few drunks and car crashes and big stuff in the news are mostly about government corruption and Eskom's load shedding where they turn off certain parts off the country's electricity off for 2 and a half hours.
