Personally it's nobody's business if your wife is working or not when you're in the Philippines because that would be your choice. I understand that people don't want you to run out of money when you're there but you're both adults and you know what you need to do to ensure that you have an income. I need to worry about my wife and I as I can't run other people's lives. When we eventually retire in the Philippines we're going to be retired. I do my best to not waste my money because I want it to last.

5 years ago I met a cute filipina, she's was nice and had a good job and I know she has a golden heart. The day we moved together, she decided to quit her job. I was mad but I tought she would get another job later, but no. Last year, I told her if she didn't get a job, I could not support her anymore, then she started some courses that I paid for and at the end, she still not working. So I don't know what to do anymore. I am thinking of bringing her back to her parents in province.

Honestly its almost natural for married women to not work. Sure semi common in last 40 years. But typically, marriage is have kids, wife runs house amd kids, no work. While you may have no kids. The culture remains

Phils SSS max pension for private sector or individual is about 14500 per month + 13th month bonus for early retirement age of 60yrs old as of this time. this is about 15,700 pesos per month. this is for maximum contribution of 3200 pesos per month. you can get initially 18months lump sum then start monthly pension on the 19th month. i know bec i just applied for it. This amount is only good for if u cook food everyday, for toilletries, cleaning materials, electricity,water,internet and if you already own a house. not enough to pay for medical needs and hospitalization and house repair and other miscellaneous expenses.

Hello Scott, I believed from earlier Videos that Cecille was on solid ground with her business. She brought her skills and to bear in starting an online business contributing to her family's prosperity. The plans you and Cecille have made for retirement are solid. I have followed your journey with respect, and a certain admiration, because you and your wife make a good team and a beautiful couple, doing things in the right way at every turn. I also like the Murals as they are uplifting and the artist is very skilled in his art form.

This is a long topic of discussion from exspats in the Philippines. 100 people will have 100 different views on the topic. With that, you will have 100 different situations to contend with. My wife works as a school teacher, but she does it because she enjoys it. I like being retired in the Philippines. I enjoy being home alone sometimes. building our house kept me busy for a few years. I ride around Bataan and explore by myself on my free time. The is no right or wrong. The only wrong is doing what others tell you to do..

Don’t have Cecile work at a Call Center. Most are located in Metro Manila and Clark. The commute would be hard. Your strategy for paying off the house and getting financially secure now is the way to go. Live debt free and within your means.

I have been a resident of the PI for 8+ years now. Have not been back to my birth country and don't want to. When I started to look for a partner I had to think about what I wanted. No kids. Past present or future She has a career Limited involvement with family No marriage Not resettling in birth country Fortunately we have been together for 5+ years with no problems. We are boosting her retirement funds (SSS) to add to her govt pension. Also doing some higher interest deposits. You can find what you are looking for but you have to be patient.

I just got back from the Philippines August 28, 2024. Was there a month. I can tell you this…you’re not doing much traveling if all you have is social security.
@altriplett90993 ай бұрын
It depends on how much your social security is! Early retirement or disability limits her to a check equal to half of your award amount. At full retirement age, that amount jumps to 2/3rds… So keep contributing! Also, if she’s not already a dual citizen, get that addressed by retirement time, as non citizens are subject to a flat tax…
@Marker443 ай бұрын
Yes she is a dual citizen.

Only one way to take that comment and it does not need to be addressed. I would have told the guy to go pound sand. Its sounds like your financial aspect has been well thought out. One thing to consider. Have you worked out what to do with all your free time when not traveling. What is going to keep you fulfilled .

What does she want? Will she get bored doing nothing? That's what my Filipina wife is dealing with here in Cebu City. It's easy for old farts to sit back and do nothing(like me) in retirement. She won't be able to collect SS till she is 60 if you die=long ways off(with a kid under 18, you can collect earlier). Working a regular job in the Philippines is a lose, lose situation. Long hours, very low pay. Better for her to try on-line selling like going through a Lazada in home store or Amazon or starting a business that keeps her busy. It should still be up to her of course. Our situation has nothing to do with wanting/needing more money, it's just time not doing anything that gets to them.
