Travel in India takes a dramatic turn for the worse as we head into the Western Ghats of Kerala to a place called Thekkady (the Cardamom Hills) on our little rickshaw
Our rickshaw is 25 years old, and clearly struggles in mountain conditions in this kerala travel vlog. #Kerala #Thekkady #IndiaTravel
Dont forget to subscribe to our channel to be alerted when our next video goes Live / thosehappydays
In this india travel video we stay at the beautiful Eletaria Resort in Thekkady. We had a fantastic stay here, and recommend it for sheer beauty. Here is the link www.eletariaresort.com/
Our overall plan in India is to travel via rickshaw/tuk tuk from the South to North (if it's possible?) The next leg of our journey is to travel all the way through Kerala, and then a bit more of Tamil Nadu before reach Karnataka
WE POST VIDEOS EVERY WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY 7PM AND SUNDAY 9AM (British Time
We have only just arrived in India, after a crazy time back home doing van life and living full time in our camper van conversion for two years in the UK. But after some serious engine problems that cost us a fortune, we came to India on a mission to honour Liam's Grandad's legacy who sadly died earlier this year. With the inheritance money Liam got from that, we bought the tuk tuk and named it after Liam's Grandad.
OUR JACKERY POWERBANK
We are in fact travelling with a Jackery Explorer 1000 and we LOVE IT! Does what we need. But Jackery have just brought out the NEW Jackery Solar Generator 1500 Pro - which is more powerful and it's quicker charging too. Here are the links to check it out:

I’m so pleased you decided not to risk the next part of your journey, on a mountain, with no brakes! I’m just too old and anxious for all this!!! Honestly though, I truly think your vlogs are better than most things on mainstream TV right now. Epic work both of you. 👏👏👏 good luck on the next stage. I will be watching from behind a cushion. 🤣🤣

What an amazing society though where everyone stops to help out, nothing seems to be too much trouble. We seem to have lost that in the west. And so many able people too - they seem to be able to set their hands to anything. Fantastic!

Oh Tracy I couldn't agree more. I did 3 consecutive years of solo travel vlogging in India and by nature we all helped each other out. I'm back home now in the UK and I just feel that if we attempt to help people the way we do in India then others think you are some kind of weirdo. Simply because such helpfulness has now been lost in western society. Theres also alot more depression in the West and I think thats cos we lack community. I can't wait to go back to India. I'm in the UK at the moment as I have a family member who is not well so I need to hang out here for a bit ♥️

Well western culture is spreading here in India as well many people not all(specially in major cities) have stopped to bother about others in problem because they are busy in doing the hard work for fulfilling their modern western dreams but still in rural India atleast 50 to 60 % people are living with Indian culture and values but how long it is going to stay it is hard to say because western culture is spreading fast in India as well and missionariers doing this work of converting people to christianity affectively in India specially in rural areas where people are pure and innocent. India is changing very fast because there is a stark difference in India 0f 30 years ago and today's India and it is matter of few decades that encountering such kind hearted people will be a sight to behold where it used to be so common that every person used to be like that has infinite amount of time to help other. A sad but bitter truth, I feel sad for the world that such innocence is Vanishing from the world just in the name of devlopment and modernizzation.

@@ST-ff7pf oh we did I promise you but you will not see this in our history books. Ordinary people used to be like this here in the UK many many many years ago. People really are no different the world over. It’s the ways of capitalism that causes the change in how we relate to each other. Really sad.

@@alnicholson4344 Thanks for your concern and kind words there is very-very little chance because the glitter of capitalism attracts everyone who sees it for the first time though few of the people who has deep knowledge of our sanatan hindu culture from which things like meditation, yoga, ayurveda, spirituality, astrology, organic agriculture etc. comes will try to save our culture and try to avoid capitalism but most of the people in India do not have that sort of deep knowledge of our culture becuase of the attrocities done by Islamic Rulers, Christian Missionaries and British Rule for the last 800 to 900 years. And the worst part is capitalism is so attractive for such nieve people they cannot see through it but still few people are trying really hard to save our culture and also the people in other capitalistic nations like USA and others by giving them the glimpse of our thousands of year old culture, which makes people genuinely humble and happy from inside. We are worried yet at the same time have faith that in the end we will win but it is going to be a very difficult task. I can share some glimpses of our culture with you guys who are feeling broken, search for Krishna Das Om Namah Shivay Kirtan and from there you can find some other kirtan as well to calm yourself. He is from USA earlier used to be known as Jeffrey Kagel, his kirtan will sooth your mind, there are thousand of saints in India even today but at the same time thousands of fake as well and I have sahred him with you because he is the one who comes from your society and for some it may be easy to connect with him instead of an Indian. If any of you guys has any question related to your lives then search Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev on KZbin watch his videos to get some clarity. Again there are many saints like Sadguru as well but he speaks in English so it will be easier for you guys. Love, health and happiness from India for all of you guys from other nations, namaskar.🙏

@@lawrencewilson2457 Comparing us with Pakistanis would be insult on Indians. Not just religion, add upbringing, education level, mindset and thought process as well. Ros... I did solo female travel vlogging in India for 3 years. It's such an addictive country. The country with the most cultural depth amongst sheer beauty (in my opinion). There were difficult times too re being a single woman in Indian society, but I honesty feel that the more single women who travel round India the more the society will get used to it. Also ya can't tar everyone with the same brush. For example, I have come across arse holes in india, but as we can see from Liam and Janine's vlogs there are truly amazing ppl in India too

Love you brave souls! I am a sincere follower/admirer. That vehicle is NOT designed for anything beyond a few kilometers at time ON PLAINS only, NOT FOR PERSONAL/FAMILY COMMUTE, NOT FOR ANYTHING BEYOND GENTLE GRADIENT, CERTAINLY NOT FOR LONG DISTANCE AND CERTAINLY CERTAINLY NOT FOR A MOUNTAIN regions. The engine design was originally from 60+ year old italian Vespa scooter, 100 cc air cooled two stroke or may be updated 4 stroke, grossly under powered for your purpose. A brand new one might barely make it. An old one with worn out clutch, loose gear cables...... surprised you made it from Chennai to here, 800-1000 km? The place your are driving is about 200 km from my hometown. At the next good mechanic shop, please get the clutch checked, brake, gear & clutch cables replaced, have a couple of spare spark plugs, & clean it every 500 km. On hot days, give it a break every hour or so to cool down. Down slopes, use lower gear to control speed, not brakes. It is only going to get hotter as you go north and summer is on your heels. - from an Indian, fairly knowledgeable in cars, two wheelers, engines, mechanics and Indian roads.

Jay this vlog really does bring it home to me how AMAZING some of the Indian people are. I lived as a single woman vlogger in Indian society for 3 whole years and alot of the time I was not impressed with the psychological violence towards single women. But this vlog has proven that there are many many nice genuine people in Indian society. I want to go back to India due to the kindness of some of the ppl and also it's cheap there. Life is too expensive for me here in the UK. Also the UK feels lifeless compared to India. I definitely felt alive there. Don't get me wrong I was challenged and frustrated there too but I felt a lot more alive there than I do in England.

The brake problem used to be a thing over here in the UK in the 60's and 70's when most vehicles still had drum brakes.....it's called brake fade , when they become overheated by the operator over applying them continuously for a prolonged period , normally going down hills when they should be using engine braking and allowing the brakes to cool. It's what happens when a society gets dumbed down due to technology doing the job for them and us no longer having to think about how things work. Seriously intense watch and so glad you're both safe and well ❤

Continuing to keep you both in prayers and thankful you both are safe. I believe your choice of having the truck pick you all up and take you to the next destination, was the smart path indeed. Take care you both and stay blessed.

Wow! you two are so, so brave. I do not have a sense of adventure, and my heart was in my mouth watching this video. I'm so glad both of you are safe and have taken the sensible decision not to take any more risks. Having said that, I'm enjoying watching your adventures in India. The Indian people are so lovely and welcoming.

Wow, I'm absolutely amazed watching you guys travel around South India in a Rickshaw! That's something I'd never dare to try-I'm quite the adventurous soul myself, but this takes it to another level. Being from Thekkady for almost 24 years, I never knew anyone who ventured this far, especially considering how challenging the route can be even with a regular car. Kudos to you all! The video might not fully capture the toughness of the journey, but trust me, it's no easy feat. And how crazy is it that a guy from Thekkady like me is now in London, watching two Brits doing these incredible things in my hometown? Absolutely mind-blowing! Your video is amazing, and even though I'm a bit late to the party, I'm subscribing right away. Can't wait to see more of your adventures and hopefully cross paths with you guys someday soon!

Liam and Janine..... I thought that I was adventurous with travelling alone in India as a Solo female travel vlogger, but OMG I am CERTAINLY not as brave as you guys. This is an ADVENTURE of a life time in tuc tuc Pete. I think Janine needs a bravery award for saving Pete. Hope Pete is all fixed and ready to go now and you had a SUPER time at Sadhguru's SHIVRATRI celebration. Sadhguru is my FAVORITE philosopher. If I was in that tuc tuc with u from Kochi to Thekkady I would have cried the whole time. After feeling brave travelling round India on my own I now feel like a scaredy cat given what u and Janine manage!!!! Love u peeps. Stay safe and enjoy the ride....... ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

What a brilliant video. Your story/video-making skills are outstanding. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole video. Being a passenger in a rickshaw is frightening enough, goodness knows how much more adrenaline-filled it must have been driving! Good on both of you! And thank you for such a fun vid.

If you are stuck there on the Mountain Climb, The Nearest gas station could be 10 Kms away and its mostly Semi - Forest area. Once it gets dark, Elephants, Leopards and Snakes start roaming around the place. So its a nomral practice to watch out for each other and help others and be concerned. You don't want to be that person who is stranded on a Steep Mountainside road in the middle of the Night. That's the worst case scenario.
