This so helpful for my Paleoanthropology studies and my anatomy studies, thank you very much, your videos help out so much since either can't afford to do my Paleo classes yet

Very interesting presentation. Nevertheless, I would like to understand better the differences between ancestry and race.

Race is a term used for dogs, ancestry for humans.

"Race" is a social construct! it doesnt technically exist. Ancestry is where the person/persons ancestors came from for example, Ireland, Senegal, Chile etc!

@@KaelynMoran well, well...i'm not satisfied with your answer. Domingo from a geográficas location, culturally Identities with a name means as much as "Race". Ora even less, if e think about

@@anaqueiroz652 "Whether looking at visible characteristics such as skin color or invisible genetic markers such as blood type, biological anthropologists have demonstrated time and time again that there is no scientifically justifiable way to divide the human population into racial categories. (...) Does this mean that race does not exist? In terms of biology, that is exactly what it means. But in terms of social reality, unfortunately not. Race does not exist in nature, but race does exist in our minds, our practices, and our institutions." Introduction to Anthropology, Jennifer Hasty Ancestry, like the name says and like was mentioned above, is related to the origins of your ancestors, which can somewhat be identified through (the now popular) genetic testing, for example. This is not race, meaning, your biology is NOT fundamentally different from other humans and you don't need to be separated into a different category (a different "race"). Ancestry does not allow for different enough biological features to justify this categorization into races. Ancestry is a way to speak about and relate to your family's place of origin. As Jennifer Hasty says in the book mentioned above: "Biologically speaking, there are no real racial categories. Each human trait varies along a spectrum, and the various traits are mixed and matched among people in ways that make racial distinctions impossibly inaccurate." Humans come in a variety of body types, eye colors, skin tones, but that does not make us different enough to justify such fundamental categorization and separation as the concept of "race". I hope this is helpful.

There’s a horrible thing going around about a lady and a PhD anthropologist arguing about how to identify sex by bones. Sadly a crowd laughs at the PhD anthropologist without allowing him to explain the difficulties of identifying sex just by their bones. The amount of anthropologist compared to the amount of right conservative people pushing their anger against people who have degrees are small. We are over whelmed with a bunch of men creating content but lack understanding.

10:38 they consider all the evidence and can determine what the sex is. Yes there is anomalies but they consider everything when determining the sex. A male may have a more female skull for example but they the likelihood of a male having all female bone traits doesn't happen. They studied bones from known sex participants and determined they can accurately determine sex from bones. Why else would this narratorake that statement " after we determine sex"?

Btw " horrible thing" I bet you didnt think it was horrible when police allowed students to chase and assault Riley ? Tgey kept her hostage basically behind a licked door with threats of violence for an hour and a half. What is more horrible violence or laughing?

@@TheDukeofDavid I have scrolled by the video and have yet to watch it. I don’t condone violence or rude behavior. Nor should anyone miss treat her and frankly I am on the side of not allowing mixed sex sports when they transition pass 12 years old. However, as an Anthropologist There are details to consider when determining sex of the bone and I wish that the students heard what he was trying to say.

@@odar9729 if you don't condone, do you fight against it? Ive seen you comment multiple times about what a shame it was they laughed at the guy, what they did to Riley was 100 times worse. The fact you had to clarify you think trans should play with their biological gender js telling. You realize how irrational and nutty these people are and its very plausible some people deny science as simple as sex determination from bones, I guarantee a large group would deny it to push an agenda.

@@skils8862 You should show some respect kid, some people actually want to learn this or enter this degree, calling someone a loser, nerd and/or bozo and telling them to "get better" just because you don't find it interesting is actually quite insulting, instead of commenting/replying in that manner, in the future, you should instead just keep scrolling, while yes you do have freedom of speech and are able to express your opinions, think about what you say before you say it, as you don't know the affect it could have on someone.
