good video, think its about high time, car manufacturers stopped using gloss black plastic everywhere, same carry-on with the interiors, they have it all the frequent touch areas, all scratched to hell after a few months of ownership/use!!

thanks fab. they sux though dont they.. even the go faster bits I have stuck on my car are gloss plastic and swirl up if you touch.. I actually think its almost poinltess polishing this stuff with its small trim.. because of how quickly it mashes up again.. polish and PPF does make a lot of sense.

Wish I'd seen this before I tackled one side of the A pillars on the A45 Jon. My first time dealing with these piano black plastics and I struggled big time. Got the heavy marks out but went to aggressive and struggled to refine it. Once I got it to a point it was looking good, even on a soft pad with britemax black max I still had slight hazing. Watching this I now know my speed was way to high, I was at 3-4 on the shinemate mini rotary and probs too much pressure as well! Will need to try tackling these again, thanks Jon!

My car has plain black plastic pillars in matte that match the rest of the trim. They may not look quite as nice, but damn if the upkeep isn't easier. A little trim black here and there and they look just fine. I don't even mind not having the gloss.

if its bare chrome them a metal polish.. If its clearcoat then any sort of abrasive product and a buff with a microfiber can clean them up.. sometimes though that can get heailvy etched to the point of being ruined.. its hard to say bryan

Find a local company that apply the paint protection film; they’ll probably sell you a 12” strip across the width of the roll for pocket money. If you feel the need, tell them it’s to protect something other than a car so they don’t feel like they’re being done out of some work in the application.

@ForensicDetailing

nope :( the first thing is. if they are swirled up you have to remove a lot of material.. removing that material, means lots of working and more marring. In my opinion the key things to getting cool finish.. get the swirling sorted first with cutting compound.. then use clean ultra soft finishing pad.. with tiny amounts of 3800.. use your machine at very low speeds with the smallest amount of pressure.. and just slowly polish over the surface to remove that compounding haze.. thats the key. and if you dont do that, in the right light up close there will be machine induced marring from the final polish. thats why there is no other videos out there filming the results fairly by actually getting right up close in heavy light.

@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 4 жыл бұрын
too agressive mate you will leave behind fine swirls every time I promise you. you have to finsh out with mega soft pads (new or very very clean) and finsihing polishes on very slow speeds with virtually no pressure.. then you can get like a really good finish. trick it to just be patient and just do when I did in the video (tape up a bit better than I did).

@@ForensicDetailing had a go earlier, couldn't get rid of fine swirls then I've taken to your channel, should have done it the other way around! Assume I'll be OK using s20 to begin with for the heavy cut then follow with the finishing polish. New pads it is then too!

little das6 pro. would be the thing that can do it all. and you could put a 75ml plate on it and use 80ml pads. or a 90ml plate as well perhaps for the hex mini pads. then the 5inch plate for the normal polishing... good option... if you want a cheap mini rotary like I use here theres some shinemate EP803 or 805 cant rememeber the nunber
