The paradox of humans, nature and fire. Fire suppression in some habitats can lead to serious long term problems.....like idiots with fireworks causing unnaturally severe fires. I worked with the NYDEC on a preserve in western NY restoring oak-savannah habitat with fire. Got some great results after 20 years.

Thank you, Chris. That terrifying fire from a distance reminded me of a gigantic brownish orange tornado, but it wasn't brought on by the weather, it was caused my morons. I'm still floored by the complete brainlessness of some people, and can't even begin to imagine the total loss of life this caused for the forest's inhabitants, especially all the creatures who have no way of fleeing. This happened in the middle of nesting season for many bird species, for example. Nothing but the highest praise for those firefighters. How long was it before this fire was extinguished?

hopefully we can help educate. remind people going to set off fireworks to find a large area with no dead plants within at least 15 feet of the firework and to set down a strudy non flamable material between the firework and the ground. do not attempt fireworks that launch high in the forest. if they want a firework show stick to the small ones that only go about 15 ft up or out. bring several gallons of water and douse the area afterwards, preferably before as well. remember to keep all fireworks far away from each other to avoid accidental chain reactions. used fireworks should still be kept away from dead plants and water should be poured on them. obviously the safest thing to do would be to not use fireworks at all, but since we can't convince them to stop, hopefully we can convince them to practice some precautions

Such good advice. I agree, there shouldnt be any fireworks in such a fireprone habitat. Best thing to do is keep teaching and hoping for the best.

Nutty. Aren't fireworks illegal in the Barrens? Scary when you see wildfires, been exposed to a ton more since moving to AZ 5 years ago.

This is heartbreaking all those poor animals dying for some stupid people and their destructive fireworks. Humans are the most destructive animals on the planet.😢😢
