If a technician shows you a dipstick, air filter or a metallic smudge of oil on a paper towel...its a scam, If the tech simply explains what she or he found...its could be legit. A burning oil smell could be a llose oil filter. However it is more likely a weeping/leaking gasket, o-ring or even a loose fitting somewhere. Track it down and hit it with your DIY skills. Thanks for the video.
@Flamytygwa18 сағат бұрын
Yeah I agree, doing your own oil change isn't super hard and I'm sure a lot of people would be more than happy to help you check it yourself and the burning oil is most likely just a small leak somewhere.
@ajdahun17 сағат бұрын
Yeah. Look at valve cover gaskets too if you smell oil.
@bikecommuter2415 сағат бұрын
next time you are in town look for an auto parts store and look for a engine oil leak detection kit or or order one online, it a dye that reacts to UV light. you simply put it in the oil and operate the engine for a bit and then using the provided UV flashlight and special glasses it will show where the leak or leaks are coming from. The UV light is also good for looking for bed bugs at hotels and motels. 😆 Retired mechanic of 46 years.
@stevejeffrey1114 сағат бұрын
Yep you're right, a gasket is loose & leaks on my 20+ year old Toyota, it's common as vibrations over the years loosen the rubber gaskets or they shrink, it gets that smell sometimes. Always check dipstick every few hundred KMs & top off as needed

Short of the shear extent of effort that is put into things like you do; the adventuring itself, the hiking, etc. In my experience, the hardest part of living this life truly is in trying to get honest mechanical work done consistently. I feel you on that racking milage like a trucker comment. I just said the same recently. I'm at just about 25,000 miles this year, myself. Amazing how much that alone can take out of a person. ..and I must say: Rocko has been on a heck of alot of summits, over her still relatively short years. It is crazy what that dog has seen too. This is hands down my favorite KZbin channel. So long as you can keep this going, I don't care about much of the rest of the media available to us. I miss the Canadian Rockies already. I just came back down to the lower States. The Yukon is now one of my favorite places I've ever visited. I just don't have a Diesel Heater or anything to bear the colder temperatures, or I would've hung out longer. I think your set up is awesome, and I wouldn't change it either. I'm sure you have many Kilometers left in that rig, before it's done. Though I have another auto appt tomorrow, myself, and I dred every single one now too, haha. Tradeoffs, I guess, for all of the 'free' camping. No matter what you choose for this Winter, I'm sure it's going to be good.

He hated watching TV, always wanted to be out walking, but I had a hunch he'd love what you do and so I got him to check out your videos. Then he started watching more religiously than me and when we'd talk on the phone he'd tell me about what you were up to. He was the one that told me you got Rocco. Anyway, it's been nice catching up on the videos. Sort of like spending time with him. Your channel is so inspiring and beautiful, and quiet, it's not really like anything else. My 2010 Chevy Express Van was sold at 640,000 km still running great. The engine started to gum up around 400,000 km. Was introduced to Marvel Mystery Oil by a fleet manager of an oil patch co. Told me that his Chev Vortec engines seemed to cleanup using mystery oil. Lifter slap cleared up and the motors running like new. He warned me that when the sludge started to breakup that I would be changing oil filters every 500 to 1000 km. He was right on the money. Told me to watch the oil pressure gauge and when pressure started to drop just change the filter.
