But guess what my kids (ages 4 and 9) have become such big fans of your videos that every weekend they ask me to check YT if a new episode has dropped. In the event anyone is curious, the bar above the locomotive seen at time stop 4:57 is for clearing icicles hanging inside the tunnels that separate the north Lake Tahoe area (Truckee, CA) from the Sacramento Valley to the west. Additionally, the bars/grid in front of the windshields are to prevent snow, branches or ice from damaging the glass. The Union Pacific railroad has a subset of their locomotive fleet specifically modified to traverse "Donner Pass" between Reno, NV and Roseville CA, with Truckee CA in between ... with these 2 modifications just a few of the several that allow them to surmount the pass and its winter hazards.

A few years back in the region that Foresty comes from we had 15' snow banks and the power company had to dig out the wires in some areas. Well I call them the good ol' days as this year every good snow storm came with above freezing temps in a few days. The tree buds are flushing now, just 1.5 months too early. May be tough this year.

Put silicone grease on all of your rubber door seals, which will stop them from freezing to the body and keep them soft. Use graphite lube on door locks, but only in small amounts it can make a mess, but will not collect dirt or freeze. Good luck, Mike GM Master Technician.
@forestyforest2 ай бұрын
Thanks..! In this case, huge chunks of ice built up in the door hinge areas, filled up the inner fender too! I think snowmelt was running down from the windshield... took a few days to melt and clear out the hinges 😅

You might think I am crazy but I miss Blizzards and Snow. Raised in Up State New York I use to deliver Newspapers at 12 in this Weather... dragging my Sled and later a Tobggan behind me with 121 papers.. We use to go Ice Fishing at Saratoga Lake and one year got Snowed in for 3 days a mile from our Car. Later after the Military I spent an entire Winter Camped in a Lean To not far from Floodwood Pond in the Adirondacks.. Loved it.... I was on our County Emergency Management Task Force before Retiring and the PRIORITY was for the Snowplows to open and keep open all the Primary Roads to and From the Hospitals and Fire Stations with all other Road of when we got to them priority. So in a Blizzard like this one the Plows are running steady up and down the Main Roads.... I wish I could post it, but I have a Picture of my Dad's Station Wagon parked in our driveway and the only thing you can see of it, it the flat roof. Be Safe and Stay where you are is the best thing to do... Why risk anything.. Your Friends Dog is almost a twin of my old dog.. She died in her sleep at 17 human years old..

Well, half way trough the video I havent seen any evidence of winds, so this is just a heavy calm snowfall, Nothing we truckdrivers in Sweden, Norway and Finland would consider stop driving for, exept when the snow starting coming up to a feet deep on the roads. In windy conditons its a different story, but then we talking about real windy, like a real storm or blizzard, not this relative calm snowfall with no wind at all to talk about. The secret for both truckdriver and cars? Real winter tires made for cold winter conditon like Hakapelitta, not those fecking Mud and Snow tires you americans use, that is even worse in cold weather than a Goodyear summer tire.

The truckers had to stop on the summit for 3 days just west of this town Trukee. Winds were recorded at 190 mph

Let me explain it to you. These types of videos are immensely popular with the viewers. (this video was #28 on TRENDING yesterday!!) Lots of views translates into lots of money being paid out to the content creator by KZbin. Yes, it is a challenge, but in his case, it pays very, very well.

@Jon-jk8vd Yes, living in a van in a snowed in parking lot and being cooped up for several days in a row, when there is a blizzard going on outside the vehicle is my idea of a challenging situation.

I didn't get one good snow storm to camp in this winter and I'm so bummed. Hunkering down by a warm fire during a blizzard with just my fury friend is when I find the most peace in life. It really helps me think through all the things going on in life and get my priorities back in line. For me, a few days of isolation is needed every few months just to work through all the shit in my head. It's like doing a hard reset. All of the distractions of life are gone which gives me much more clarity to prioritize what's actually important to me. I didn't realize how much a little isolation could help me until the pandemic hit and I decided to do some camping by myself rather than be locked down in my apartment building. I ended up staying 22 days (I did have to move spots after 2 weeks per the rules) in a small dome tent at a primitive camping area in a National forest with just my dog and it was life changing. I was the only one camping there the entire time and it was the most peaceful 3 weeks of my life. Besides a forest service truck driving through once a day I was completely alone. You really learn a lot about yourself that way. Typing this out really has me thinking about planning a little trip before it gets too hot out. I'd rather camp through an ice storm than a heat wave. I must have some nordic dna or something because I'm the guy in shorts and sandals all winter that never gets cold. I finished part of my basement just so I could sleeo down there because it stays about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house all year long. Anyways, it's nice to see at least someone's out there enjoying all that snow. I enjoy your videos tremendously. Thanks for the entertainment.

This is ridiculous. You came to town just to be in the way for a storm. You're whats wrong with van lifers. Supplies are low in our area and you came up here just to use them up and be in the way of snow removal?
@HughJorgan13 ай бұрын
I'm curious if you could give examples of any supplies that ran out in your area? As well, please provide some evidence that these two vehicles were "in the way of snow removal". Honest questions.

This guy is low-key and self-contained. He is conscientious and cleans up after himself and others. He clears trails for others to use. He deserves to be cut some slack. Save your ire for the self-satisfied, Bay Area, Lahonton (and others like them) set who clog Truckee, Tahoe City, King's Beach etc all-winter and summer in their grotesque oversized BMW, Lexus and Audi SUVs, and then drive like complete and total jerks west on I-80 all the way back to the Bay Area, tailgating and making dangerous passes as they scurry back to the rat race.
