I've been working as a Graphic designer for over 20 years but still like to keep doing tutorials. Illustrator is probably my weaker program although I still enjoy it. On this particular video I love the way that right up until the last steps that you keep the text editable. Knowing that the artwork can be saved and used at anytime is a massive time saver. If you add round corners to the appearance group you can keep it live text, however not all fonts play well with the rounded corners.

Also if you set your offset paths joins to Round you can fix this problem and have a editable text while avoiding that weird rounded courners shapes for some fonts

If you ad a stroke below 'Characters' a line will appear around the whole text included the effects. And the more copies you ad to the effect the more smoother it looks.

Hi! I tried to add a stroke below "Characters" but it doesn't outline the effects. The effects cover the stroke, so it is visibile only on the left of the letters (where there aren't the effects). I would like to add a stroke all around my design (letters+effects). How can I do? Many thanks!

Great tut. But you don't have to Outline your text at all. Just add a round corner effect. Appearance pallet > ƒx > Stylized > Round Corners... You can still Free Transform and the text is still fully editable. 👍

Cheers Johnlee. I find that this effect doesn't always work as well as using the Direct Selection Tool, that also enables control of each corner individual where necessary. Useful for mocking something up and keeping text editable for sure, but for anything final I would avoid it personally.

Thanks a lot, I like the style and how you taught. However, why can't I change the text, When I selected the text button, hit on the text, it would create new text for me.

Try double-clicking the text with the main Selection Tool, this shortcut should automatically switch you to the Type Tool, and the text becomes highlighted and ready to edit 👍

@@ForeverDansky Thanks for your response. For the new text, when I use the "main select" tool to click it, the text could be edited. But for the stylized text, it was not working. It seems go down to some deeper layer but not the text editing layer. I tried with your ai file from dropbox, it doesn't work either.

Talking about texts can you create a small and quick tutorial on this "When we are working with texts some typefaces has extra space in bounding box which really gets annoying while aligning them" Is there any way to do that so the software aligns the text only without considering the bounding box. And yeah without converting text to outline.

what about the font size of the editable text ? my style doesn't follow the size, so i can edit my text, my style are manageable, but, the size font is fix with the effect, if i change the font size, everything is broken, this is so sad :(

If you go to "Preferences" in Illustrator you can change the UI colour from the "Interface" tab. On Windows you can find the preferences listed at the bottom of the "Edit" menu.
