I’ve recently started thinking about a pressure washing business but the main deterrent is how I’d deal with expected damages, like stripping some paint and the customer freaks out. There’s way too many variables. I worry a lot about the small stuff. What’s your thoughts?
@willmurphy48392 жыл бұрын
Yeah you would just get General Liability Insurance and have customers sign a contract agreeing that all damages caused you are not liable for and the maximum liability would be for the original quoted price. You're welcome. Also, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE SMALL STUFF! Just go and do it, make the leap and hit it, twiddling your thumbs will get you nowhere.

Like I tell everyone trying to get into this business, take the time and do your research, invest in your business education. I learned this business from the internet over the course of 2 years while contemplating on leaving behind a career in ironworks (Steel Erection, NYC) for what I felt was the unknown (like many of you today), as I've never even used a pressure washer before. It "looked" simple and fun, maybe just buy some used or cheap equipment and have a crack at it on my next day off work.. and so I did. I washed a small tool shed, a 2 story 2500sqft house and detailed 3 cars all using a 2.5gpm 3100psi pressure washer and I did it all wrong. It wasn't the tips I used, it wasn't the chemical ratio, or how I applied the chemical. It was the fact that I was using pressure on surfaces that didn't require any pressure at all.. Please, there are so many wrong ways to clean with a pressure washer and so many delicate surfaces where a pressure washer will do harm and may not even need to be used. Watching these youtube videos will only do so much for your training until you put it into action. You need to be proactively doing the work, watching these vids, reading educational material, maybe even take a live in-person course on washing houses (quite a few pressure washing companies offer this for a fee), whatever it takes to gain the knowledge so you can arrive to your jobsite and clean a home/business with confidence. As for dealing with customers, when I arrive to give my estimate/quote/bid, that's when I take the time to look at the house and check for damages or loose materials, especially on the roof. I make sure the customer knows about these problem areas before I even send them my proposal to sign and start working. To ease your mind a bit, your business should have business insurance so in the event something goes wrong on your behalf, your insurance should take care of it. There's also trust funds and bonds that can pick up the tab if you are not capable of completing the job but that's a whole different topic and a lot more expensive (in NYC). We had a customer freak out for oxidation that revealed itself 2 days after a house wash. If I didn't have the training or knowledge, I probably would've freaked out along with her and my company would've had an insurance claim. The whole house looked like a powdery mess, I simply called her up and explained what happened to her house and what oxidation was, I managed an upsell, we came back a day later, came to an agreement and handled the oxidation. Don't Let Fear Of The Unknown Deter You From Trying Something New. We All Started At The Bottom At Some Point!

in most states, if you use any sort of chemical (sh, surfactant, even dawn dish soap) it is technically not allowed to leave the property. As in you are unable to rinse the water into the street to drain. I personally don't worry about this too much, but it is out there

How do you keep your cool when doing big jobs like cleaning big driveways, and how do you make it easier to get excess dirt off the driveway after you go back over it (im asking because the recent job i did for my parents I did a crappy job and ended up costing them a couple hundred bucks appreciate tips for future!)
@Frindleeguy2 жыл бұрын
Cost them money to hire someone else to redo it? Or did you do damage? I'm assuming you were using less expensive gear. You should figure out where the water is going to pool, and wash that first. Then go to the high point, and wash from high point down. Then rinse with a lower pressure tip and wand (I'm assuming you didn't have a ball valve). You might need to rinse as you go (surface clean, rinse section a, then do section b, so on). You can pre-treat with bleach at 2-3% in a pump up sprayer, and if you're using a 4 gpm machine and cold water you probably should. Though it's a federal offense if the chems leave the property so be careful.
