Should you start a pressure washer business? It’s an excellent option for aspiring business owners, with big revenue potential, consistently high demand, and a low barrier to entry. We’ll find out exactly what it takes (and how to do it right) in this 2-part interview.
Unlock FREE Access to the Pressure Washing Masterclass: bit.ly/3yAVSAL
Ryan Woods started Emerald City Power Washing in 2019 after years of working as a general contractor. That experience helped him grow his pressure washing business to a six-figure revenue in his first full year-impressive by any standards, and especially so considering the extra challenges businesses faced in 2020.
In this interview, Ryan shares his secrets for how to start a pressure washing business with maximum revenue potential. He’ll tell us what initial budget and equipment you need for starting a power washing business. We’ll also find out how he built his brand and client list over Emerald City’s first year and how many customers it takes to reach six-figure earnings.
Emerald City Power Washing stands out from their competition with unique services like roof/gutter cleaning and environmentally-friendly options. Today, Ryan tells us how he chose the services he offers and which ones generate the most demand and profit. We’ll also find out how he hires and trains his staff to ensure the quality of Emerald City’s services and what role that plays in keeping customers coming back.

We do plenty of multi million dollar homes. I have a pick up truck and make things plain and simple cuz I like it. He may like not having a trailer. I see a lot of guys with huge box trucks and big setups, but I can whip around in a truck and make the same amount of money. Also when the owner is doing the work your more likely to get quality job then a bunch of guys that want 25 bucks an hour and don’t do a great job and damage stuff. His overhead is super low and he keeps things simple. That gives him more time with his family
@dscot
@dscot 3 жыл бұрын
That "more efficient" mentality will get you in trouble...quick. All that equipment you mentioned adds up, takes maintenance, and gets you the kind of jobs that makes you have to hire people. That can be a bad idea. The idea that "Growing" a business means making it bigger is often not necessary and even can be detrimental to a business. There's something to be said about about keeping it simple. Also, stay away from Yelp!
@josephbailey7408
@josephbailey7408 3 жыл бұрын
@@dscot incorrect, efficiency is absolutely imperative to success. The “equipment” i mentioned can be used by HIM alone, not needing a staff at all. Efficiency makes things faster, easier, cleaner. Able to move through jobs quicker without lacking standards.

They was making fat amount of cash off the power washing side alone but the real money was gutters 100%. Though I do recommend to anyone thininking of getting into powerwashing also consider maybe painting too. I'd just like to say that my company caters to the market. Most of my jobs include cleaning roofs, preparing for paint, gutter cleaning and gutter guard installations, so until I see a use for a chemical system I'll stick to what works for my company. Just because I didn't use chemicals to clean this particular project, doesn't mean I don't know how, haven't in the past or won't do it in the future. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know everything, but I'm dedicated to learning and have spent a substantial amount of time learning new technologies. I know plenty of pressure washing companies that I sometimes team up with, I talk to my vendors about products and techniques, so I'm well versed in the many different approaches to getting jobs done. That being said, I'd like to encourage anyone looking to get started in the pressure washing industry to give it a go. It's well worth your investment! You'll meet new, exiting folk and maybe make a dollar or two. Best of luck to ya! 💪🤠

Honest question for anyone, now Iv been thinking about starting my own business and going out there on my own. Iv thought about a few different options to try and this is something Iv considered but what I want to know is where is your water source? Without knowing any better I naturally thought you would have a large tank on the truck which had a motorized pump and you connect that to your power washer buuut I don’t see anything like that on that pick up lol. Does that mean you connect to the customers water? If so, how do you get away with them accepting the quoted price on top of having them pay for their own water to clean their house when you are a hired service? I stumble on the thought. If anyone can shed some light that would be great lol

A few reasons commercial is more expensive than residential: 1. Insurance and 'red tape' requirements 2. Contracts will wrangle you in and if you screw up anything major on a commercial property they are going after the entity for sure 3. Chemicals and solvents required (also they will want MSDS) 4. Type of pressure washing - many times they want a higher flow, lower PSI with extremely hot water (depending on application allowance) and those machines start at 6-7k for the ones that can be rolled around and start at 10-15k for the trailer models 5. Net terms and retainage(rarely) - many times you will be looking at net 30 or sometimes even net 60 pay terms 6. Non payment - as crazy as this sounds, commercial work non-payment rate is multiple times higher than residential. Why? Go do a 50k job for a company and then when they don't pay you, even if they have the money, you have to sue them(worst case), they get to use your 50k to fight the lawsuit that you are rightfully owed, and worst case is that they will have to pay you the money they owe you, plus 5% per annum from date of invoice. In very rare instances will they have to pay your attorneys fees because they will say something is damaged an muck up the water in court. So, when you are playing with bigger $$$ invoices, it's way more likely to have some debts go bad simply because it makes sense from their perspective on larger invoices. No homeowner will risk mechanics liens and JP Court for a few hundred or even a couple thousand dollars because the retainer for an attorney is more than that. Bigger $$$ has bigger sharks that play the game at a higher level. I know from experience and had to learn the hard way.
