Hunting for Lake Superior Agate has been a bucket list item of mine for a LONG time. Michigan's Great Lakes are full of incredible treasures, and in my opinion the Lake Superior Agate is one of the most beautiful things you can find in the state! Will I find it? Check out this link to learn more about the formation of Lake Superior Agate: en.wikipedia.o....

The one at 9:28 looks like porphyry. And 4:04 looks like gneiss. Green in the great lakes usually means epidote and redish orange is usually either feldspar or jasper. At 10:43 I think it could be sun stone, a feldspar variation, it's got the right color and flashes. Number 4 is my favorite. Good agate finds. 👍

I haven't read all the comments, so someone has probably already told you the pink rock with the sheen is feldspar. That was a really nice big piece! #1 was my fav! Congrats on the nice agate!

The Unakite definitely speaks to you Kyle! You sounds just like I did back in June when I visited Lake Superior (Ontario, Canada) for the first time. You found some beautiful amygdaloidal basalt, gneis, banded iron and those gorgeous agates!!! I love hearing the excitement in your voice! Thank you for an amazing video sharing your adventures! If you're looking for some good reads in preparation of your next adventure to Lake Superior, I highly recommend "Lake Superior Agates: Field Guide by Bob & Dan Lynch," "Rocks & Minerals: A field guide to the Lake Superior area by Bob & Dan Lynch," and one that I know Taylor (aka Agate Dad) uses is "Collecting Agates and Jaspers of North America by Patti Polk"

The best times to find agate are when the sun is really low, so that as you walk, you face the sun, and look down to see which rocks sparkle and are translucent.

Easy way to get shine on rocks without polishing, clear gloss spray paint. I'm a Michigander and that's what I do with my small Petoskey stones that I use in crafts (because I have tumbled them to nothing in the past!). Also works great for rocks you want to use in landscaping, makes them stand out even when not wet! But for jewelry you definitely would want to polish them :)

Such beautiful rocks!! I liked #1 of the numbered pieces. That small triangular brown colored stone looked like a guitar pick! 😃 I did research on tumblers, and bought my first one last year, it’s a Thumlers Tumbler. Works real well, whatever tumbler you choose, I’d go for one that spins 2 barrels at once! Those agates are gorgeous, such a good day! 👍

Welcome Home Kyle. We love to have you back. Even if its only for a few days. Enjoy the Lakes and do some camping if you can. Mosquitos are down some due to all the rain making the puddles fresh not stagnant. Ticks however are way up. So many great stones/So little time. Tumble anything you like. the smooth ones work best.

Rock # 4 was my favorite. In 2015 I was camping in Taqumonon Falls campground for a week. I went to Whitefish Pointe and spent all day collecting rocks, I was so obsessed that I went back 2 more times. I must of brought home over 60 Lbs of rocks. I need to go back and do it again. I sprayed some of them with a clear acrylic to bring out the color. Love seeing you up there.

The one @ 2:28 looks like stromatolite jasper, which is 2.2 billion year old fossilized algae. There is some found in dolomite near Marquette called "kona dolomite", which is absolutely stunning. Scientists looking at a wafer thin piece under an electron microscope found a single cell in the process of mitosis that is over 2 billion years old. 🤯
