Now do a semi-solid cast piston. The only ones that exist are marketed as "semi-forged" and they're an OEM upgrade for the 4AGE from Toyota. They're rated for 600hp in that engine. Semi-solid casting is a process where hypereutectic aluminum is heated up until it has a paste-like consistency and then I believe it is high-pressure squeezed into a mold or drop forged or something like that. The end result is a hypereutectic cast piston with an aligned grain structure, giving it the beneficial properties of forging (to a slightly lesser extent) as well as the beneficial properties of a cast piston (no piston slap, no or low blowby, not "warmup" period before safely romping).
@motoiq9 ай бұрын
Who makes those? I have only heard of wheels made that way. 4032 alloy pistons are something similar.
@Drunken_Hamster9 ай бұрын
@@motoiq I literally said so in the comment. It's a set of factory-available pistons from Toyota for the 4AGE. They're 81mm in bore. They're marketed as "semi-forged" but the actual process is called "semi-solid cast." The ones from Toyota the only ones I know of. I wish the aftermarket had more of them for popular engines at a few different compression ratios. Also for the wheels, I think you're thinking of rotary forged, which is a different process altogether.
@motoiq8 ай бұрын
It's because they probably don't exist and someone said that on the internet.
@collinpietsch56145 ай бұрын
No they do exist The issue is that the equipment used to make it is quite expensive to maintain and let alone use. Toyota's the only manufacturer that offers them factory as an upgrade. During the process they were squeezed into a mold under high pressure like he said when they're turned into a paste like consistency. Giving very similar strength to a forged piston while giving you all the benefits of a hypertect it piston. But forged is stronger and can handle way higher temps.

Subaru uses forged pistons for their sti in japan, but cast is the us. Because cast pistons get slightly better emissions on startup. Defund the epa.

@everettstormy5 ай бұрын
@@FLORIDAMANIAM-he2lz that doesn't really make any sense becuase casting is cheap to proto type and forged parts are usually ordered based on bore spec for when you are building an engine. I found out later that it does expand slower than cast aluminum
