Kinship is surreal. I've been following Jón Aldará since his time with Barren Earth and he's come a long way as a vocalist (in my opinion anyways). I think, for me, he gives that extra little nuance that elevates an otherwise absolutely brilliant record to... well....surreal. Definitely my album of the year. By far.

While there are some on there I wouldn't include in my top lists, I can definitely see why others would. I totally agree that Iotunn, Counting Hours, and Mother of Graves were true highlights of the year. I'm a little surprised you didn't mention Gaerea's Coma. That album was amazing and showcases the best modern black metal has to offer IMO. If you want something that's amazing and also easy to listen to and approach then I'd recommend Caligula's Horse - Charcoal Grace. A very good progressive metal album that rivals some of the best albums the band has ever produced. Jim Grey's voice is something to behold if you are unfamiliar with the band. Cheers guys!

Kickass list. A couple here I never got around to checking out that I will have to go back and listen to. There were not as many highs as past years (2021, 2022) for me but the overall quality was so good that it was one of the harder years do decide what should be on my top list. Normally I am pretty varied in genres. Too me, this year was where death metal shined. Undeath, 200 Stabwounds, Abramelin, Cognitive , Nile, Job For A Cowboy, Laceration. A Wake in Providence I came back to a lot. Also, I forgot how good that new Judas Priest is. Solid year overall but looking at my last year playlist, not nearly as varied for me.

My top ten are the albums from these bands, 1st at the top Aquilius - out of this world atmoblack. Insane addictive album that always makes me cry Gaerea - There's just something about this album that hits and connects with me. It's like.. extremely high fidelity black metal that I fuck with Amiensus -masterpiece of progressive black metal (im counting both parts as one album). Saidan - I don't care what people say about posers. If all posers made albums this FUN the world would be amazing. I always get a laugh while headbanging. Unto Others - I only caught this album in December, but one of the best goth rock albums I've heard. The hooks are so damn infectious it's insane. Su*c*de today is probably my song of the year Capstan - Stellar post hardcore. Misery scene is probably second favorite song of the year. The entire album is just solid song after solid song IOTUNN - I mean.. come on. The only reason it's this low is because it's such an investment, which is a good thing Assemble the Chariots - How this album came and went baffles me. This is perfectly nerdy and fucking crushing deathcore. It's also super creative in deathcore. Sunburst - probably my favor prog rock/metal album. Just overall a really fun album with great hooks, interesting lines, etc Huntsmen - Such a weird album that shocked me with how good it was. Just something always keeps me enthralled When I was making this list, I hit 20 albums really quickly. It's just been that good of a year for the music I like
