Ive been thinking of getting a new panel, started to watch this video, half way through I started to wonder what the price tag on this beast would be, saw your comment (3k USD) and I was like... aum OK.. so I googled it and here in Sweden its like 40k-50k SEK so thats roughly 4-5k USD. A big pass for me :P

Jay the reason many of us complain about these supposed "high end" monitors isn't because it's simply $1500-$3000. The reason we say it's so ridiculous is monitors like ASUS PG32UQX being THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS and they are still TOO MANY "issues?/compromises?" even at that price. if I am paying $3000 for a gaming monitor. I expect PERFECTION. There shouldn't be ANY issues at $3000. The PG32UQX is a pile of pure trash at that price. Yes, most will only use the PG32UQX for PC gaming, but at $3000 they didn't include HDMI 2.1 48Gbps inputs? are you kidding me? at $3000 and I can't use it for 4k/120Hz gaming on my PS5? you "can" get 4k/120 for Xbox X if you lower chroma sub sampling down to 4:2:0 etc. Hell no. not at $3000. Who cares if it's 1600 nits bright if you can't use it to game on with anything other than a PC? $3000 and they can only squeeze 95% DCI? not 98+ ? Latency is 7.5ms at $3000 vs the Gigabyte FI32Q at 2.7 ? seriously? Sorry, but if monitor makers want to charge $1500+ there can't be compromises. It needs to be 99.99999999999% perfect and be calibrated to 100% color correct Out of the Box. At $3000 I should be able to game AND do content creation. THIS monitor is over $3000 and also only has HDMI 2.0 ports. NOT ACCEPTABLE. PERIOD.

Thank you! All of the above plus I'd say a $3000 monitor should not be built on the same black dull plastic as a $100 Dell office monitor. This thing should be made of premium materials, and for this price I would expect it built entirely of aluminium. At least Samsung tried with their G9 monitor, which still costs less than half of this but actually looks good.

I took one look at the price of this panel and said - "Yeah, my LG 27GN950-B will do me fine for the foreseeable future". Also, it goes without saying that to take *full advantage* of this panel, you'll need a GPU that supports Display Stream Compression (DSC) - namely the Titan X, RTX 2080 or later.

Just for a frame of reference I guess 1152 dimming zones, assuming they're evenly divided, means each zone takes up a total of 7200 pixels, or a 120 x 60 rectangle. Pretty dang good, but still not as good as per-pixel dimming on oleds; and with the first qd-oleds being available at like half this thing's price, I can't help but wonder what the pricing of a 4k oled of this caliber will be
@ian.williamson
@ian.williamson 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m surprised at the price of this when the new 34” qd-oleds are less than half the price. They are 1440p, but slightly higher refresh rate. I still stand by the fact that 4K is unnecessary with such a small screen size. Much rather have the qd-oled technology, although miniled is still pretty good.

The QD layer improves colors and sometimes also brightens the colors which effectively improves the color volume as well as most of the colors gets absorbed in the polarizer. The dimming zones improves the black level in a scene. It is a physical layer that blocks out light to improve black level. But sadly IPS panels are not known for their contrast as their inherent raised black level ruins it but in this case MiniLED is pretty helpful I guess as they have much more dimming zones which can reduce blooming vastly and can achieve more black level.
@robertweekes5783
@robertweekes5783 2 жыл бұрын
21:30 The panel should have about 236 sq. in. of area, divided by 1152, gets you 0.2 in^2 per backlit zone. So each dimming zone is about 0.45” X 0.45” (about the size of a fingernail). *5 zones per square inch*

So pleased you mentioned about the cables, and that it came with one. It's one component that's so overlooked. Influencers and industry have spread the word that buying stupidly expensive cables is not really recommended or needed in the average setup, and the problem is that people have adopted this and will buy cheap. But as you mentioned, not getting a certified cable that can meet your displays specification, is just wasting the high refresh rate or HDR experience.
@shanez1215
@shanez1215 2 жыл бұрын
It's also about the build quality of the cables. Super super cheap cables like the ones companies often bundle in will have a thin cord which puts the wires through more stress over time. That's fine for a static setup but if you're using it with a console or moving the PC around it's not ideal. That being said, there really isn't a benefit to spending more than like 10-15 on a cable.

With modern display tech we're finally starting to beat CRT's in all categories though. CRT's have a lot of draw backs, power consumption, burnin, and lower brightness for example. Retro game pixel art was still made for CRT's though but that's another problem all together. CRT's do have wicked fast refresh rate support but that's not really needed, the main benefit is latency. After doing a lot of research into my recent monitor purchase....I know just from the description about how much this panel is worth. Out of my price range. I still need to get a vesa arm for it though as my Dell didn't have a vesa mount on it. I come from the days when we lugged CRTs to lan parties. Probably the only thing this panel has above Alienware aw3423dw that I have is that it's 4K.. But I'm a huge High refresh rate snob and I'm a few generations away from being able to move to 4K. I run games at a medium/ high/ Ulra mix and if I'm not getting at least 120 fps average it gets uncomfortable for me:) I really want to be at 200 FPS no questions asked. So 4K is a pretty long ways away from that.

@SUS X MADSUS I wanted to start too big and do an exchange if it was overwhelming. Turns out it wasn’t. I’m a day trader and work in coding. I use it 12 hours a day including gaming. Zero issues on my end. I came from 3 asus 27” ips pg27q (forgot full model name). I have more surface area in the 55” and gaming is a blast

For that price you would hope it would have HDMI 2.1 and it doesn't... it has HDMI 2.0

Why tho, pc users dont need it, and i wouldnt buy such a monitor for a console which usually only pushes 30fps.

@@can6243 you can barely see 2k difference between 4k. 4k isn't even that compatible just yet. Even with a 3090ti. I can say next gen will start to bring better 4k gaming but it won't be 4 years from now when 4k will be at its golden age for maxed out gaming

@@can6243 that's absolutely not true . I got the Acer x27 and the dell up2715k side by side and the difference is night and day on 27 inches ! You got absolutely no aliasing artifacts at 5120x2880 compared to 3840x2160 , way bigger view distance in games . They literally pop because they look like printed . 4k on 27 inches looks like eye cancer compared to 5k on 27 inches . You cannot judge unless you see it .

You could always create a ultra wide resolution to run within the 16:9 framing. It'll have black bars on the top and bottom but with a screen that big it will most likely still be bigger than most of the ultra wide's out there.

My brother was kind of shocked and thought I was crazy when I bought LG monitor was like $1,000. Then I showed him that and my acer monitor. Was blown away almost 😂. He uses like old dell monitor from 12+ years ago. I’m good younger brother and gave him my Acer one at least was upgrade for him. I believe in getting good monitors for playing. Next purchase will be mini LED and this might be it! Thanks for video!
