Must've watched this video nearly a dozen times before going with the 37mm on the bracelet, elabore grade, AR on the underside only with no display back. It's really a high quality piece, the appreciation comes slow because it's so understated but I prefer that over the eye catchy bling. This video and the comments were quite helpful in helping me narrow down the options. Cheers.
@kenghao83568 ай бұрын
May I know how’s the elabore grade going? Does it run faster than 10 sec a day?
@buckethead848 ай бұрын
@@kenghao8356 no its pretty dead on, mine ran initially +1 a day now it's more like -1/0 but that gets corrected if I keep the watch overnight in 12-6 position, ends up being +2 so it nets out during the day. I do find however that the watch does get magnetized easily which does cause it to go slow, -4spd.
@kenghao83568 ай бұрын
@@buckethead84 I was hoping this watch will have antimagnetic mechanism on it. I’m actually still doubting should I go for elabore or pay extra for top grade movement. Did you opt for date window as well?

@@kenghao8356 no date window, I wanted to keep it as clean as possible. I doubt there would be a ton of difference in the movement performance, I just did it for the sake of getting the best option.

Wow that one looks great. I wear the Sinn 556i and it is hard to beat, but this one looks like it could contend very well with the Sinn
@mariog7213 Жыл бұрын
At 1550 usd, the Sinn isn’t the value prop it used to be. There are elements I like about the Sinn much more but at the end of the day, i think the laco has the slight edge due to the customization. You can get one with bracelet for 400 less than the Sinn and basically the same movement. If Sinn updated that clasp and maybe added a higher grade movement or at least the hardening coat to the steel and I’d side with it. Anyways, just my opinions. The Sinn defo is a great piece
@Zjiagg16 күн бұрын
@@mariog7213 Laco's customization is great ofc, but if you add up some features such as anti-reflect (both inside and outside), bracelet, and sapphire case back (SINN has them as default) the price is about the same or even higher than SINN. it's a matter of design preference, I got both of them so in the end Germany wins I think :)

I have a LACO Original in 42 mm. My wish is that the Fliegers take the step the divers took already long ago: going for a three dimensional dial, ie using applied indices (luminous material only as on the Tudor FXD) or going for a Panerai style sandwich dial (probably much easier to realize, especially for the Baumuster B type). It would make the watches look so much more precious, upmarket without watering down the iconic look!

I think this is the best Flieger out there! Maybe - if you're open to a little change in style towards more minimalism - the Sinn 556 I could be a great alternative in that price range. But I'd still gravitate towards the Laco, this is such a classic design, very tastefully modernized in exactly the areas I'd wish, and the options you can choose from just make it perfect! And their history and the variety they offer really make it *the* Flieger brand, maybe even above the massively popular Hamilton.

I didn't quite get the part about the manual wound / screw-down crown / clutch thing... Anyone mind explaining to me please? Online research only showed up clutch regarding chronograph movements... Indeed, a manual wound watch with a screw-down crown sounds like a real pain for a daily use especially in a rotation and with only about 40h of PR. Thanks!
@EscapementWatch Жыл бұрын
The clutch is in the crown head so you can't over wind it. Not in the movement. When the manual wind is full you cannot wind it. It locks so if there was no clutch in the crown head it would be impossible to screw down that crown without breaking the movement. Hope that clarifies it

I am tempted, for the first time, to buy a Laco, as this Pro model with all the options, especially the 37mm size and the Top movement, is very nice. I would like to know, is the IWC Mark XX in comparison really as grossly overpriced as it seems or are there any real and substantial improvements (finish, look, handling, feel, quality, longevity, bracelet etc.) ? The so-called in-house movement seems to be just a version of the ETA 2892 with some own parts, so that can not be it.
@EscapementWatch12 күн бұрын
That is a great question, but unfortunately I have never handled an IWC with my macro lens to give a solid answer. But my guess is it's over priced.
@susokraut316912 күн бұрын
@@EscapementWatch Ask for a Mark XX for review maybe? I think it is a question many people ask. Obviously, IWC is somehow a more "prestigious" brand, but probably another way of putting it is that they invest much more in advertisement, sponsoring and brand embassadors etc, thus inflating the prices. I was once a fan of IWC and still possess a 1990 Portofino, which I still like, although it is with it's 34mm quite small. But all the bogus with "manufacture" movements which apparently are just a bit modified ETA one's and the ludicrously overprice Ingenieur did make them unbearable for me.

Nice. Great value. A good size too. Not all historic pilot's watches were wrist clocks! Longines (true pilot heritage), Hamilton and the IWC Mark (the original, before it was butchered) were in this 36-38mm range. Only Luftwaffe fliegers were especially big due to Nazi design criteria. And shall we all agree that Nazi militaria is a tad distasteful? Once pilots migrated to jets, the traditional size dropped again, because the planes were far smoother. As flight suits became more complex, watches got worn underneath anyway.

@@EscapementWatch well who needs 200m on a pilot watch. You won’t take it swimming. Also who wants to have a screw down crown specially on a manual handwinding movement. Dimensions are better on the Stowa (subjective) but it’s slimmer. Onion crown is a lot nicer. Well I checked the movements not much different. I got a eta and the laco got sellita. I guess both brands have same history but laco have been making a lot of low end watches whiles Stowa feels a lot more focused on watches in the 1500 usd range.

It is the peace of mind knowing your watch can do anything. It is one of the big draws to Rolex sports watches like the legendary 36mm Explorer(which has a screw down crown, 100m of water resist and a bracelet, simple 3 hander) Just like this laco pro. I don't think the Stowa has a bracelet option last I checked. That is another plus for the laco as it can be a GADA, go any where do anything sports watch. Swim, climb, office work etc. The laco is thicker by 0.7mm but overall it still presents as a very thin professional timepiece with more presence then the stowa on the wrist. And just because Laco offers a more affordable options doesn't mean they can't make nice watches in other price brackets.

@@vegardvang519 Are you saying only actual aviation pilots should buy "pilot" watches? By extension, only actual divers should buy "dive" watches?🤣

Any Flieger watches less than 40mm are just dress watches. Flieger watches need to be at least 40mm. It’s in their aesthetic, their raison d’etre to be on the bigger end of watch spectrum.

Too small. I think you need the 40mm for sure

Please do not be stupid, you don't need to be careful, just buy a 33 mm tempered glass and stick it on the watch glass

Hopefully, san martin will do something similar in 38mm. Titanium will be even better! This one, too pricey!

san martin already makes a 39mm s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dd31RON

Pffft... I mean, the watch is good, even great for 1940es. But for modern standards, it's just an useless toy, or a shiny decorative bracelet at best. The perfect flieger would be 40 mm in diameter, with titanium case, solar quartz movement and atomic watch signal reception.

I have a laco Leipzig. Manual wind, bead blasted case, leather strap. Perfect for me. I wouldn't buy a modern version like what you like. No interest at all.

@@Koishishibaman the beauty of the pro is that you can order it in beat blasted, manual wound and leather strap version if that is your taste.

@@perudolux My point is that I don't get the point of the video. Like I've already said, this is far from a "perfect pilots watch"... almost a century far.

Check out the bronze green dial Stowa flieger 40. Absolutely stunning. And a lot better than this laco in everything

finger prints and to cause less distraction. I can't personally watch any watch video if the person has bare hands.
