Hi Roy, I kinda like the way you present the video. I follow along with what you're doing, then you answer my questions at the end, why this not that. My only thought was the tang on the end, you need something to grip onto. Back in the day, this may have been a production item, and time was a factor. 👍🙏🏼⚒

Love it Roy great blend of video styles, the plain forging with your detailed explanation at the end works perfectly and very much suits you, I think you a homing in on that perfect style you are after. Great little project well made as per normal. Hopefully will be needing hooks and Gambrel my self very soon.

I have seen this style of hook with the tang over the eyelet used before. Quite handy when you have to change out hooks with your tackle. (for size & capacity) The benefit of having the tang is with the use of a bowline style knots & not using clevises. Just slip the bite of the loop into the eyelet from the hook side & over the tang. When you lift the rope / cable up, it uses both gravity & leverage to keep the hook dug into the load (this case meat source), & reduces the chance of slipping off. My two cents worth 😉😁

Arrrrrr, Matey! Love how easy you make it look. Your hammer blows are so relaxed, you never seem to over exert yourself. I am trying to practice that in My current projects! As always, thanks for all you do for us in the community!!!!

Nice technique. Mineral oil works very good to preserve the finish. Won't turn rancid like some other oils. (Or attract bugs) Find it near the pharmacy as " intestinal lubricant". Not kidding. Thanks for the video.

I knew when you said "Mystery Metal" and you were able to manipulate it that easy I was already figuring on it being very low carbon, ie; mild steel. Great video and interesting approach to drive the pirates mad trying to figure the attachment point,,,lol. Gods Peace to you and Jess~

As always a great video BUT I miss hearing why you're doing things as you're doing them. I'm sure to much talk is annoying to other experts like yourself but for others like myself trying to improve in my craft the chatter is very helpful.

Roy, if that hex bar came from a machine shop which being in the midwest it most likely did, it is most likely 12L14 or maybe, maybe, 1030. Those are the most common metals turned. I run tons of it. One other thing that really bothers me, please take that allen wrench out of the fly press when you are using it. I know it is not moving fast but it is coming down with 8+tons of force. If that wrench comes out and falls it can possibly get hit upright between the dies. It will then become a bullet. Not saying it will happen, just the possibility is there and as a machinist by profession it drives me nuts to see that. Never leave a loose tool in the moving parts of a machine. If want something you wont loose may i suggest welding up a t-handle that will stay put. Always safety first. Blessing to you and the family have a Merry Christmas. (still cant figure out why anyone would move to that state up north.)

Well Eric, I can't speak for Roy, but when you live most of your life in a certain area, it's home. I get the same kind of weather as Roy, you get accustomed to it. I grumble about the snow, but it's home.
