The braided handle ignites my ideas. What if it were engraved with scales like snakes, hot brushed a bit with brass, the hollow of the handle filled in with see-through color-tinted epoxy resin, and the deeply hammered smith's mark filled or capped with an "emerald". Like a drop of venom or something? Then you can still see the mark but it adds a little something.
