That turned up beautifully! I'm so glad to see you were finally able to get your hands on some nickel steel. IMHO it's what makes damascus so beautiful by giving it that shimmer in the light. Great knife, great vid! (again) ;)

Hey , I'm just curious what's the liquid you put the blade in to bring out the patterns ?
@godparticle3148 жыл бұрын
It's an acid of some sort. I'm not sure exactly what was used here but usually people will use ferric chloride which is sold as a circuit board etchant. The acid will eat into the different steels at different rates, revealing the pattern
@knivesstuff9 жыл бұрын
Awesome! The video with all its angles, music and shots was amazing! Did you have a camera man for some of the shots? The knife is also a work of art :) How many layers did the knife have? Thanks for the video! The best of luck with future projects :) Maarten, 16 years old :)

nice video, what was the orange stuff you put on the blade?
@noavailabeusernames56849 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's borax
@reubenhm9 жыл бұрын
NoAvailabeUsernames I think it's ferric chloride. It looks as though its the same etchant as he uses to etch the damascus pattern on the blade but I'm not sure. Borax if I'm not mistaken is a white, powdery substance that's used to clean the weld and prevent oxidisation. It's used at around the 50 second mark.
@Glaswalker10019 жыл бұрын
If you talk about the 50s mark, it's most definitiv Borax. It's white, but the glowing metal letzten it look orange.

Would regular and stainless steel do the job for a combination
@chrisjollie72408 жыл бұрын
God no! Regular steel (mild steel) doesn't harden and hold an edge like carbon steel (the steel he's using in the vid) and as for stainless, good luck trying to harden that. It's a complex process and in the end isn't worth it for all the effort.
