The first car I had was a ‘57 Chevy two door post. It was blue and white, all original. I drove it for about 12 years and then my crazy x husband insisted on selling it. Sold it in the late 80’s for $700. I cried. I loved that car. I live in NC It was dark blue with a white top, 289 engine with power glide automatic transmission. The only thing wrong with the original interior was the carpet over the hump in the back floorboard was worn out from where my son stood all the time. He is almost 56 now so you didn’t have to strap a child in all those years ago.

WE CALLED IT A HARD TOP CONVERTIBLE
@billtodd65096 ай бұрын
Youre partially correct. The (hardtop convertibles) were the ones that had the steel roof stamped to look it was a convertible from a distance, hence the rear top creases stamped in the steel roof to give it that effect. Bill
@mattskustomkreations5 ай бұрын
Yeah, no. Except for perhaps (by a stretch) the ‘62-64 Impala that had creases in the metal roof to mimic / emulate the creases in a cloth convertible top, or also by a stretch a Ford Skyliner retractable hardtop, there’s no such thing as a hardtop convertible. “Hardtop convertible” is an oxymoron. Might as well say something like you have a motorcycle that’s a “2-wheel trike”. Now if you’re talking about a car with a custom Carson top, I could see that being a type of ‘hardtop convertible’.

'57 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 dr. Hardtop still the most iconic car of the '50's. But not the cash cow it once was. In 1978 my dad bought me a '57 Bel Air 4 dr. Hardtop for a $1000 I enjoyed it for awhile & I sold it for $1,700. It wasn't easy to sell a 4 door back then. In 1981 I bought a '57 Bel Air 2 door Hardtop at a classic car lot I paid $3,500 nice original car I enjoyed it for awhile & I sold it for $4,250. In 2011 I bought a '57 Bel Air convertible in mint condition & I lost money on it when I sold it in 2014. Then I bought a '57 Bel Air 2 dr. Hardtop & I lost money on that also in 2014. A classic car dealer said to me "Don't buy these cars thinking you can make lots of money because you're not. What's happening is the baby boomers are dying off. And old timers & collectors & investors are selling off their collection knowing the value is going down. So they want to liquidate is quick as possible. Flooding the market as demand goes down & supply goes up. Kids today aren't interested because they didn't grow up with the 50's & 60's cars like I did. And kids today don't have a million dollars to play with to buy the classics.
