Had the wheeled warrior base! Always got a weird feeling about the enemy plant figures like a bent green turd!

I vaguely remember the SDF ps. I was a huge fan of Robotech, but it wasn't my first exposure to anime, that would be Speedracer, then Battle of the Planets and/or Star Blazers. I think i still have my Rick Hunter figure...my stuff is all over the place in several plastic totes. Sky Commanders were past my time, but my little brother had them and i played with them when i wasn't busy with homework. They looked like MASK figures and when i would inherit them from him, they went with my MASK as if they were just a part of their world. yeah, my brother had those things stringed up all over his room and i hated going in there and getting caught up in those like i was a fly in a spider-web. the pods they rode in were unique. i'm not a fan of 6" figures. 3.75" is my fave size. I had a Starcom that was FREE from Kelloggs mail-in. It was a magnet base and was on our refrigerator for many years. it was a black tetrahedron. The figures reminded me of Battlestar Galactica figures, like the Cylon that i had with my Raider, from the 70s

LOL. It think that was the only reason I wanted Jetfire so badly as a kid, because he was the most perfect Veritech toy you could find at the time. Still have him, but he's seen better days. Thanks for watching!!!!

The third installment of Robotech with Scott Bernard was dark, bleak and almost depressing to watch. I was nine when it first aired, and had watched Nostradamus prophecies on HBO, so I was already worried that the world we lived in was going to end in a nuclear war (height of Cold War at the time too). For a cartoon translated to US standards it still seemed to espouse a theme of war not being all it is cracked up to be. Where Top Gun showed the glory and allure of being a Naval Aviator, as well as GI Joe being a Real American Hero, Robotech’s overall storyline showed a world disrupted and forever changed, with a young guy thrust into a hero role. Comparison to Top Gun ends there. In Robotech the earth is screwed, the leader of the SDF-1 makes some major mistakes and a lot of people die, and characters struggle to hold onto Their humanity. I always made sure to watch Robotech when it was on, but I never left watching an episode feeling happy or joyful. The American Robotech toys were in a bad spot. To make figures easy to play with, 3 and 3/4 size was the way to go. In order to make decent vehicles they had to be out of scale or they would have cost way too much. Even as a dumb kid, my one standard was size and scale when playing. A reason I loved Joes was that they were usually pretty spot on with that (except for the FLAGG). Robotech mech toys would have been great if you could have had pilot figures the size of Starcom or the transformers figures that came with their Takara versions. Sorry for the long rant. Robotech was a favorite even as bleak as it was. I have been tempted to purchase a Japanese version of Scott Bernard’s bike and armor suit, just trying to find one where the price is less than a weeks worth of groceries

Dude, I too was scared of nuclear war. I think it was the first time I had panic attacks. Every time something would be on the news, my mind would race with all of these fears and worry. It was pretty bad...all that being said, I gravitated towards post-apocalyptic stories for some reason. I think that duality was created by Thundarr, lol. Thanks for watching!!

It was a great line. It also hurt that it was canceled before the cartoon specific toys were produced. Thanks for watching!

I had some of the Sky Commanders. I didn't have the set but I think the Vector Command was like around $40. I've see the old box pics online and the mark down price was $13.00 at Kay-Bee, reduced from $45, but Kaybee was notorious for higher prices on non-clearance items (Like $2.99 GI JOE figures would be over $4.00 at Kaybee). So mass retailers like Target and Walmart were probably a little less. Sky Commanders year two would've had some mutant monsters and a few of the unmade characters from the cartoon. Still neither of the females from the cartoon, though. Alas, none of it was made. Power Base and SDF 1 would've been great to have. No station aired the Robotech toon where I lived.

I have that starcom base >:D missing bits but the bulk of it atleast, and the small ((taller)) one with the lift up the spine. There is a big reason for that too, Starcom died in the U.S. pretty much after it came out so its pretty hard to find stuff over there... but here in the uk / japan? The toyline lasted till 1994 so its REALLY easy to find :D.

Star Command Bass add the airlock which was on a switch that you would turn or slide and it would open one door pull the figure inside then you continue to pull it and it would close the door behind and push you out the other side almost like it was automatic but done by hand was very cool

Capt Power base... every five hits you took caused a portion of the base to explode. The last hit made your control center shake around, dumping all your figures on their asses! It was cool, but very "well, I've seen it a couple times... mehhh". It was, however, an outstanding batcave stand in, or any subterranean base you needed on the fly. The show however, was written by J. Michael Straczynski and had episodes about grown up stuff, including suicide to save your friends. It was better than Star Trek:TNG at the time, because TNG wasn't good yet and Capt Power only had 30 minutes an episode! All in all, Capt. Power was cool stuff.

If you like tine 2 inch figures I would suggest looking at Matchbox's brief but amazingly rich MAC or Mobile Action Command line. It was a later 70's line. And the MAC Mountain HQ Playset is one of the all time greats. Also the main thing Captain Power is known for these days, and part of what drives the toy prices is it was one of the first shows written by Babylon 5's creator J Michael Strasczinski. (I'm sure I butchered his name)

i loved the cartoon Jayce et le guirres de la luminere (or whatever it was, in French) ...i first saw the cartoon in French on either Anik D1 or D2 (C-Band satellites) and loved it. when i saw the toys, i was SAD! It looked nothing like the cartoons...the figures were so bland. you can watch all of the episodes in french on YT, but in low quality. notice the toys had nothing to do with "JAYCE" in their name. I got all of the Captain Power figures for $1 each at the Dollar Place in the Wilmington Mall. I love the figures, but never saw anything past the figures except a jet at a flea market. I need to go back to #1 episode ...later...

So captain power, few selling points and why it was made, around that time many toy lines started to add this new "laser" weapons gimmick to their line, M.A.S.K. did it, he-man did it, brave star did it. There was also Lazer tag going pretty good. So why not make a toy line that all the vehicles had it with the one base, then came the concept of using the concept in the show so kids could play with their new favorite heroes, and that's where the linchpin was. See the toy was pricey even back then, the fights, the power throne, the base, the cannon. All a bit pricey thanks to the added tech. The figures where still decent and good, hell with the right imagination they are G.I. joe's, listen if hasbro can have a mail away figure of a heavy chrome covered joe the power team can fit right it with their gear, hell even the bad guys could mix in with Cobra very well. But back to that linchpin, see many parent groups raised a fuss over the fact that the toys could be used with the show, it was very weird parents screaming about how it wasn't fair that their little Tommy or Susie couldn't fully enjoy the show without their parents buying one of the expensive toys. I kid you not that was one of the arguments, and honestly I think that's what hurt the show and toy the most.

1.) Wheel warriors failed because it was accused of having an occult connection. 2.) Sky Commanders and Starcom failed because of the 1986 to 87 toy dump. Air-Raider, Visionaries, Battle Beasts, Inhumanoids, Brave Starr, Silver Hawks, Bionic6, Dino Riders, Super Natural, and 2 Ghost Busters. 3.) Captain Power failed because of Parents Group law suits.
