Good morning Gayle! I just wanted to check in with you about the junk journal workshop I did for my students in my community college library. We had our session yesterday afternoon and it lasted about an hour. There were eight participants, including four staff members, and four adult special needs students. The class went great, but a lot slower than I expected, due to having to provide hands-on assistance to several folks. Thankfully, my coworkers were able to step in and provide assistance as well. All the participants left with Christmas card journals that included all sorts of ephemera, including some electrical blueprints that I harvested from a no longer used electrical textbook (Since these blueprints were included with the textbook in an envelope, and not sewn in, they actually started out life as ephemera!), some music pages, vintage Christmas cards, and some rag paper from the 1850s. We all had a great time and several of the staff members stayed behind after the class was over to finish up their projects. I would definitely do it again, but would probably start by providing the students with journals that had already been sewn in. I just thought you might want to know how it turned out. Morning Christy! Thanks for the update on the class! So interesting as the class I went to at our library had a similar thing with people needing help sewing in signatures. I raised my hand and told the teacher, I’d be happy to help others with the stitching in. 😂. It’s so interesting how what as become second nature to us isn’t that easy for someone who has never done it before! So glad you enjoyed the class and the participants had fun! ❤

Hello! I have that "Christian Worship -A Hymnal", too. Mine came from my home church in Beloit, Ks. We used it when I was most likely in 2nd to 6th grade. When you were in 2nd grade you got to be in the Angel Choir. I remember singing hymn 225 "Into the Woods My Master Went". I'm not sure if it was the Angel Choir who sang it or just the congregation, but that song has stuck in my memory for probably 70 years! When I saw the name of the hymnal you showed, I knew that was the one from church and was pretty sure I had one, so I went to the basement and found it and brought it up with me. I could never use the pages, but if I found one sometime, I would. This one I got at the church when they were cleaning out some storage closets-free. I do have hymnals I have bought at thrift stores I would use. It's sad now that most churches don't us hymnals or sing the old hymns but have words to the praise songs sung now on an overhead screen. I like the praise songs, but it would be good to mix in some of the old, old hymns. Thanks for sharing ways to use book pages!

I think this is a very helpful way to add some type of grunge when you’re using a Kit. I’m not that used to using paper kits, so I’m trying to use a Fall kit now, but I have to add some grunge grunge to it.

Good morning Gayle. Well, this was different. When I use really fragile book pages I always back it with sturdier paper. Sometimes a newer book page, or coffee dyed paper or just plain copy paper. Whatever works for the project I'm working on. If anyone is interested in more bookpage ideas they could check out Pam at The Paper Outpost. She did a whole series on it a while back. FYI people: her style is TOTALLY different from Gayle's but we all adapt things to our own style anyway right. TFS your great ideas Gayle. Hope you have a great day. 🌞
