I have been trying to find this game for DECADES! I first read about this game in an Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine when I was a kid. They mentioned it in an up coming SNES games article and had a few screen shots. The person that wrote the article hadn't been given much more then the screen shots and didn't speak Japanese so the article was pretty sparse and I don't know if they even had the title. I always wanted know more about the game and maybe try it out but I had nothing to go on to even look for it. After all these years the mystery is finally solved! Thank you!

Why didnt you look up EGM issues?
@Solstng2 жыл бұрын
@@goatbone Last time I checked (which was years ago) EGM didn't have an online archive. So I'd have to just buy old mags and page through them by hand. I have no idea what year or month this would have been in. So I would have had to buy years worth of the old mags and just search by hand with basically no direction. Seemed like a poor use of money and time.

@Solstng Man, isn't it beautiful when the stars align like that. :) The end of years of searching and the gratification of discovery. For me it was Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap. I played it at a friends house but never knew what the game was and for years there were a lot of dead ends (lead me to Little Nemo which is a great game in itself). Finding a game article with pictures jogged a lot of memories and when emulators became popular, I was finally able to play! Ahh..... TL:DR; I know how you feel! :D

Wow SDrunk, way to go obscure with this one's rare cartridge. As for your question, not sure if you checked videogameden's site where it's mentioned YamYam Gold is on display on Mandarake Nakano Store, which I couldn't verify either. It seems the game was being auctioned around 2008 , but no images remain. I checked some videos reviewing the store (which is massive!), but cannot tell whether it's there. They have some other collector's games for sure. Keep up the good work ✌🏼

KZbin keeps deleting my comment so I can't provide the links but I did some googling in Japanese and apparently one of the Mandarake collectors shops in Tokyo got their hands on the golden cartridge in 2005 and it's in the rare game exhibit to this day. The concept art and the letter that came with it are seen in the exhibit too, so it definitely seems legit.

I've been wanting a game to work on for my first translation patch project. Maybe this is the one to get my feet wet with. I'm going to play it a bit and see if it's the sort of thing that I'd want to commit myself to working on. edit: I've spent 2 days, basically non-stop, just trying to get a feel for how all this stuff works. Holy heck, there is virtually no decent introductory information out there. If I do ever figure this out, I'll be putting together some videos and write-ups on how to get into ROM translation. Because this stuff is bordering on impenetrable. I'll be starting on simpler games and/or hardware first, just to learn. Hopefully, eventually, I'll get to YamYam (I don't even really care for the game, lol, but now it just feels like a challenge!) If anyone out there knows how to do this and wouldn't mind offering a bit of mentorship, that'd be awesome. Otherwise, well, people figured it out on their own before me, I'm sure I'll manage.

I’ve not been everywhere of course but I’ve dug through many a store between Aomori and all the way down to Kagoshima and not seen it anywhere. I found a small blog about rare and valuable Super Famicom (SFC) games that mentions the YamYam Gold Cartridge along with a picture. It's the third entry down after a special edition of Yoshi Cookie and Kunio-kun's Dodgeball The description above it and the follow-up line below I roughly translate as: 続きましてもSFCの中ではもっとも手に入りにくいスーパーレアソフトとも言えるソフト ヤムヤム・ゴールドカートリッジの紹介です ヤムヤム・ゴールドカートリッジは世界で一本しか存在しない超貴重なレアソフトです これがそのソフトです (image of box art, golden cartridge, and manual) ヤムヤムゴールドソフトはどれくらいの価値があるか解らないくらいの価値のある超貴重なレアソフトです Rough translation: "Even continuing within SFC games there are said to be even more difficult to obtain super rare software Introducing the YamYam Gold Cartridge YamYam Gold Cartridge is an only-one-in-existence-in-the-world extremely precious rare software This is that software" (image of box art, golden cartridge, and manual) "However much the extremely precious rare software YamYam Gold Cartridge is valued is about however much as it is unknown" TLDR; YamYam Gold Cartridge is basically one-of-a-kind priceless. I want to link to the blog and picture but it seems my comments are being auto-filtered out...
