I feel like no one is mentioning how porting Pokemon ranger includes finding a way to deal with the lack of a stylus and dual screens (you could use the switch touch screen but that would be way slower than the stylus circling) and that's likely more effort than it's worth compared to porting more easily translatable titles like mystery dungeon or something. Obviously Ranger wasn't crazy successful either but some of these ports can easily just be summed up to "too much effort not enough demand"

The only thing I didn't like was how mini games and friends were handled. I know violating your controller isn't a popular mechanic, but the old mini games gave a real incentive to befriend and use every Pokemon. Them helping out in battle is cool but is extremely limited by power creep.

You don't need to play Pokepark one to understand Pokepark 2, but if you intend to play both anyway, I suggest starting with the first one. Pokepark 2 has a wildly different vibe and system, and in my opinion is more fun than the first, but the first also has its merits and I wouldn't want its fun to be spoiled by its sequel. Please play them! They're incredible. edit/// i think it's a CRIME that you don't mention PBR's iconic soundtrack. I hear the colosseum music being reused in youtube videos ALL the time! I got it on my birthday when I was like 5 or 6 so I barely knew how to play it, but I had a great time anyways :) I go back to it now and then and I'm so glad to have it. It's actually a crossover between Pokemon and another series called Nobunaga's Ambition and the gameplay is heavily inspired from that series down to the conquering/territory gaining and battle system.

It's suuuuuch a thick game I was befuddled to find that the story was just the beginning It should almost give you a subtle heads up to give your favorite characters Pokemon they like so you don't have to risk losing so much progress if you fail Also the amount of research you need to do to find pokemon, to evolve pokemon and to understand how perfect links work amazes me. Luckily we were entering the large Internet age. I question how fun it would be without any info outside of the game

A completely forgotten (but absolutely goated) feature of Pokémon Battle Revolution was its ability to import your own Pokémon from Gen 4 games. Not only was that Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, but it also included HG/SS. It was pretty awesome getting to play with your own Pokémon (even gigantic legendaries) on the television for the first time. Your Pokémon even kept their same move sets! I had a boatload of fun with it as a child.

pokemon in 96 was bigger than pokemon go. When it came out it became like an overnight sensation. Thus those games sold better than any other pokemon games. It got so big that people thought all anime was pokemon and even handheld gaming being considered pokemon. Could you imagine if pokemon go cost $75 per person to play to still hit the tens of millions in sales? It was peak and has never gotten close to that. Through those days thery were in the macys day parade which was one of the biggest honors back in the day
@jacobesterson4 ай бұрын
Yeah the graph in the video is wack and not based on any real data. Pokémania was at it's peak in the 90s, it's where the term originated after all. Edit: On top of that we have the weird idea that Pokémon was more popular in the sword/shield era compared to the GBA era, you only need to look at sales figures to realise how wrong this is. The mainline GBA Pokémon games add up to 35,280,000 sales while sword/shield sits at 26,000,000 - still almost ten million behind the whole GBA line. To my surprise though, the DS line actually surpasses both at a total of 40,330,000 sales between Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Black/White and X/Y are when the series really started seeing a decline in sales, until Pokémon Go undeniably exploded. I guess if you count the entire Switch era as one sales figure the graph makes more sense?

I've played a few of the games mentioned. For Pokémon Ranger, I bought Almia a few years after it released and fell in love with it rather quickly. I've beaten the game at least like 10 times at this point, even trying to beat it without saving once. Later I did Guardian Signs, which despite having only played it once I may like even more than Almia. As for the OG Ranger... I was used to the improved catching mechanics so going back to the older ones was ... not a good experience. I believe I bought Poképark like 2 years after its release, and it definitely has a very child friendly story. While the game itself is definitely fine, I'd almost call it kindergarten-esque in the way that it's essentially "Oh no the world is having owies and you need to fix it by becoming friends with eeeeeeeeveryone". As for the second one, that one was a lot darker (Without spoiling too much, at one point there's a black hole and multiple characters get sucked in) and while I liked the different characters, there were a LOT less minigames which is what made the first one so fun to play. Did have a couple of post-game bosses in the 2 B&W Box legendaries though, that I beat with good ol' Oshawott (I swear, despite Oshawott trying to be pretty serious in this game it's fucking adorable). As for Dash, I'm a big racing fan so the idea of a Pokémon Racing game was a cool one. But wow it missed the mark. The controls are pretty shit, Pikachu is faster than any other pokémon by design so it's really easy, apart from the later tracks where it becomes a "where the fuck do I go" type of game. Not to mention it's extremely short.
