India has a rich history of scholars and scientists whose work has created history by changing the world and setting benchmarks of innovation. But sadly, as a nation we suffer from amnesia and apart from a select few, many have not even heard of these brilliant minds. The talk focuses on some of the less well-known Indian scientists whose achievements are no less than heroic as they endured difficult research conditions and no external aid to come up with scientific breakthroughs that form the basis of modern research in India.
About the speaker :
Raghavendran R is a Biochemist who is very passionate to learn about the rich scientific heritage of India and the biographies of scientists, many of whom are hardly mentioned in schools or colleges.

Please do not stop seeking and spreading awareness of our scientific heritage. Once you determined please do not skip the project.

Get Sanskrit back and let all study the language. Make it the national language. There will not be any North Indian, South Indian argument! All will have equal difficulty in learning it as well. The knowledge of it will allow immediate and deep access to all those ancient knowledge sitting there unread!

Absolutely agree Sanskrit is the soul of our country that connects all languages. Just try translating a word as simple as “That” in Indian languages Adah (Sanskrit) అది Adi (Telugu) Andu அந்த ? (Tamil) At അത് (Malayalam) Ahe ? (Marathi) Adu ಅದು (Kannada) Etah এটা হয় ? (Bengali) . Am not an expert but I could find this with 10 min google translate

I think we should include the work of our scientists in all science and mathematics book ....such that the students and teachers also get aware of our Heritage....as for example when we study the chapter in physics about Atom(The whole credit goes to Dalton) we must be include about Bhartiya vaigyanik *Maharshi Kanad* who told us about the Parmanu during 600BCE....we must have to include this type of information in our education..

“I am convinced that everything has come down to us from the banks of the Ganges, - astronomy, astrology, metempsychosis, etc... It is very important to note that some 2,500 years ago at the least Pythagoras went from Samos to the Ganges to learn geometry...But he would certainly not have undertaken such a strange journey had the reputation of the Brahmins' science not been long established in Europe” - Voltaire, 18th century French philosopher

An absolute need of the hour is an “in your face” onslaught on the young minds today. Only when you make these names ubiquitous, will it seed the curiosity in their minds to know more. Instead of naming buildings, schemes and monuments after politicians, we should embark on an initiative to rename existing ones and name new ones after our true historical heroes. Parenting also plays a huge role in moulding thought and reinforcement of such knowledge; which of course isn’t rocket science.

Thank you Dr. Raghavendran R for such an inspiring talk with well structured references and sparks of Indian Scientific journey from eternity to date. The fierce onslaught of invading Muslim marauders on the Hindustan scholars in our Universities to destroy every kind of manuscripts, books and monographs. This is the reason why not much manuscripts are available from a civilization that is tens of thousands years old with contributions in almost every field of knowledge. However, even then there are hundreds of thousands of manuscripts which are still uncatalogued, unresearched and even unread. That is I think criminal neglect of our tiny collections that survived the destructive power of cultural, medical, scientific and technical knowledge of our ancestors,

Science communication is it today's problem? I think Indian scholars (ऋषी) has pioneered this issue ages ago. In fact at the beginning of this lecture there's mention of light speed formula found in hunaman chalisa which is a good example how you can make a simple person learn the scientific mathematical formula. Unfortunately the brutish education has made us forget our own languages.

The talk could have been more polished, but great job in bringing out the forgotten scientists of Bharata. Hope the platform invites the speaker again and I really wish the speaker changed the title from India to Bharata. India is a derogatory word. And he should take more care in syncing what he presents and what he says without too much going into detail. If he does that the talk would have far more impact. But I really loved his talk.
