Although it didn't go as the original plan, David and myself were still able to trekked some of the most isolated trails in the San Gabriels. The Mine Gulch trail was blocked with so many downed trees. Mine Gulch trail camp has a lot of bugs. Water in the area is abundant. The most interesting part of this adventure was the Mine Gulch to Cabin Flat section which passes through the Prairie Fork trail. Only a handful of brave souls have gone this way. Total bushwhacking style. The old trail is gone. Overgrown. Bear paw prints all over. One can easily get lost. This part I will give warning to those who plan of going. Do your research before the going. But Cabin Flat can also be reached through Lupine campground, easy hike along the old logging dirt road of about 3 miles. In Lupine campground, there were not too many people camping during our visit. Thanks to Arthur for those sweet treats we got. Columbine Spring is located 500 feet up above the camp to the south and it is flowing great this time.
We took the road getting out of Lupine to reach Guffy campground. We carried at least 3 litters of water each. Spring at Guffy was also flowing nice. From there, it was mostly downhill of more than 6 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail to the Highway 2 in Inspiration Point. We decided to finish the loop with only 3.5 miles left along the PCT on the third day. We finished at around 10:30 pm with no incident. Thanks to David for another great adventure!
