It could indeed take a dozen rounds before one managed to get past the most of the ribcage or skull (.22LR LRN does not do well against heavy, rounded bone). Last time I bought .22 LR rounds it cost me $5 for 50 Remington’s at Cabela’s. I wish I had seen this video when the gun was still available. I signed up to buy at Julia awhile back for another auction our friend here was promoting. You’d be surprised how affordable most of their guns wind up being. The rare high end ones will empty your bank account quickly though. For those of you that are on the fence about buying through one of these auctions I can swear to the fact if they provide shipping you will be more than happy with the effort they put in to making sure your gun arrives exactly how it was advertised. I have had nothing but pleasant experiences in dealing with them.

The 30-06 coming out of the freaking BAR on the other hand... several cars at a time, engine blocks, the bank, etc. 12g essentially shoots 7-10 of these at a time, and .45 cal is, well, .45 cal--its twice as big, several times as powerful, slow as shit, and transfers *WAY* more energy as a result. A version of this thing actually saw some combat use - back in the 80is, a Slovenan company Gorenje made a copy named MGV-176, but with some modifications. Most notably it had underfolding wire stock, jacketed 260 mm barrel (liitle over 10 in), cruder sights and a translucent magazine holding 161 rounds. Laser sight and a suppressor were offered from the factory. Altough it was not adopted by Yugoslav army or the law enforcment, Slovenian teritorial defence (organizations in ex-Yu simmilar to US national guard) bought some. When Slovenian, and later Croatian wars for independence broke out, it was used extensively in the first months of war by the police special forces and various militias. It was withdrawn as soon as adequate quantities of MP5s, localy made UZIs (ERO smg) and various AK variants became availabe, as it proved ineffective for combat use.

My first gun was a .22 LR way back in the 60s, when I was around 7 yrs old. Back then I even once got a chance to fire a Thompson SMG with the 55 round drum in full auto; (luckily it was already half empty or I couldn't have supported the weight of it), but I never imagined someone would have the 'diabolical imagination' to combine the two for this awesome American 180 "full-auto recreational sub-machine gun". :) I sure wish I had had a chance to fire one of these. It would have been way more manageable for a 7 year old than the Thompson! ;) Awesome video!

I saw this gun on an episode of the TV show "That's Incredible" in the mid to late '70's. It had the laser sight on it and was touted as an answer to crooks using human shields in hostage situations. The combination of the pesky red light that you couldn't wipe off and the thought of several dozen .22lr rounds hitting in the same place in a second or two was thought to persuade the bad guy to surrender. They demonstrated the power of many .22lr's hitting one spot by cutting a 2X4 in half. Never saw it again until now.

Surprising to see the amount of fouling and unburnt powder. I can understand why the cleaning is important for headspacing....
@mfree802867 жыл бұрын
It's mostly fouling, .22LR is ancient and is still a heeled bullet... the bullet is the same diameter as the cartridge and is 'heeled' down in diameter to fit in the case neck. What that means for the bullet itself is that they're almost always raw or coated lead, and without a jacket they have to be lubricated... and since it's heeled, that lube (it's just wax, usually) is liberally applied to the outside of the bullet... LOTS of it. tldr most of the crap you get in your chamber and barrel from .22lr is condensed wax vapors that catches what little ash the smokeless powder produces.

Well this is no exaggeration but if a person stood still long enough (say a couple seconds) you could blow a hole through his torso big enough to look through and see behind him. The way this weapon works is on that principle that no other modern small arms uses; that of stacking projectiles on the same spot over and over and over. The ability to do that and do it fast puts this weapon into an entirely different category from any other .22 and indeed from any modern small arm. It's the same principle on how the 30 mm gun on a Warthog can ruin a tank. Modern tank armor could probably take a few hits from the 30 mm without full penetration. What no amount of tank armor can do is take 150 hits of 30 mm landing on the same area in fractions of a second. Incidentally that's the reason that the much-vaunted reactive armor used on Russian tanks (because they don't know how to build effective laminated armor like we have) is still old, tired technology that will not save their tanks. I don't care if the entire tank is covered with explosive panels, the first part of that 150 round 30 mm burst is going to detonate or defeat every reactive panel on that tank and then the other 130 rounds arriving a few milliseconds later are going to mangle it along with everything made of meat on the inside.
@justarandomtechpriest15783 жыл бұрын
@@josephledux8598 everyone uses reactive it's an add on
@josephledux85983 жыл бұрын
@@justarandomtechpriest1578 Well, the Russians have been crowing for years about how their advanced high-tech modern whiz-bang reactive armor makes their tanks as well as US and British tanks with highly complex laminated armor, and that's simply not true. Not even close to being true. Reactive armor works very well against some forms of projectile, primarily anything with a shaped-charge warhead because interrupting the formation of the penetrative explosive plasma jet ruins the ability to penetrate armor. The irony is that the Russian reactive armor WILL probably defeat the warhead of a Hellfire missile and believe me, that's nothing to sneeze at. But against kinetic penetrators like the depleted uranium projectiles the 120mm main gun on an Abrams uses, reactive armor is useless. And it's a hundred times useless if you're raining fifty or a hundred smaller DU penetrators on top of a tank from the GAU8 of a Warthog. And no, "everybody" does not use reactive armor. You will see no reactive armor on an Abrams tank. As good as it is at defeating some kinds of projectile, its biggest disadvantage is that if it triggers any infantry standing within 20 yards is going to get blown apart. So note to self: Self, if serving as an infantryman in any army that uses reactive armor on its armored vehicles, the only two safe places for me are either inside the armored vehicle, or standing like 200 meters away from the damned thing.

In 1990 I had a Slovenian MGV 180 ... a 22 LR caliber polymer rifle ... fun to shoot.
@thebakerman15 жыл бұрын
I had the privilege of shooting one of these rifles in the 1970's and my God was it ever FUN. In the 1960's I remember going to the local fair (carnival) every year and going to the shooting booth where you would shoot out the red star from a white paper target. They didn't use this rifle but was some other type of full-auto 22LR with an under-barrel tubular magazine. At full-auto, those tube magazines didn't last long (deliberately I'm sure). I remember they used to just lay the rifles out on the counter for patrons to walk up, pay a fee, pick up a rifle and start firing. Later on they began securing the rifles to the counter using a small chain or cable to prevent people from just running off with one. Come the early 1970's the full-auto 22 rifles were changed out to full-auto BB rifles and the cable/chain was replaced with a stanchion post-mount where the rifle would permanently sit upright facing the target area and the shooter only had a small range of movement (left-to-right, up and down) to move about. I'm guessing the stanchion mount was done to prevent idiots from being able to pick up a rifle, turn around and fire into the crowd. Changes like this are rarely (if ever) done without some kind of incident(s) to precipitate it. It's sad the way such people could no longer be trusted to behave in a civil manner without harming others but I will forever remember back when one could just walk up to the counter, pick up a full-auto 22 rifle and just have some clean unadulterated FUN !!

And today they could revert back. As gun laws got more restrictive through the 60s and into the 80s and even 90s violent crime still rose to it's peak in the 90s and since then is on a steady descent. And just as over-regulation did not stop the rise, deregulation didn't stop the fall. Imagine that. When those guns were held down with a chain and were still firing bullets and all was fine, chances are everyone picking up that gun knew a considerable portion of the crowd could very well be carrying guns of their own. Try it and even some fiery old woman from a family of avid hunters and shooters might have blasted a hole through your heart before you got very far.

I'm pretty certain the full auto arcade guns were never 22LR (or 22 short either). Instead they used BB's shot by compressed air, fed with a tubular magazine. Most gallery guns that were actually firearms were Winchester 1890 pump guns chambered in 22 short.
@barryervin85364 жыл бұрын
I've been around for a long time and I've never seen a full auto .22 gallery gun. Not even back in the 50s or 60s. As you said, they were always Winchester pump actions or the pneumatic BB guns. Not to say that it never happened, I guess?
@Rutherford_Inchworm_III4 жыл бұрын
Are you 100% sure they used .22LR machine guns at carnivals? One of my bosses actually used to run a medium-sized carnival, and he says he's never seen or heard of such a thing. "Only BB guns, and I got into the business in 1971. You'd have to be crazy to trust a carny with a machine gun, we had a hard enough time convincing them not to stab each other."

well the trunk and back seat probably stopped any that hit that, but a good accurate spray across the back window probably caused multiple head/neck/shoulder hits and blew out the windscreen - that's why the driver died at the scene, probably several bleeding head wounds

@Elenrai5 жыл бұрын
@@Big_Loo By the way I shit you not, here is the quote off wikipedia; ""Croft's Pikes" By late 1940, the Home Guard had amassed 847,000 rifles, 47,000 shotguns and 49,000 machine guns of various kinds. With more than 1,682,000 volunteers, this meant that 739,000 men were unarmed. There was little improvement in June 1941 when Churchill wrote to the War Office saying that "every man must have a weapon of some sort, be it only a mace or a pike". The civil servants took Churchill at his word and ordered 250,000 pikes from the Ministry of Aircraft Production, each consisting of a long steel tube with an obsolete bayonet welded to the end. When the first of these reached the Home Guard, there was uproar and it is thought that none were actually issued.[27] Captain Godfrey Nicholson MP, spoke for the Home Guard when he said in the House of Commons that the provision of pikes, "if not meant as a joke, was an insult".[28] Lord Croft, the Under-Secretary of State for War, could have blamed the fiasco on Churchill but defended the decision, saying that the pike was "a most effective and silent weapon"; his name was attached to the affair thereafter.[29] The armaments shortage was solved when the first mass-produced Sten submachine guns entered service early in 1942.[30] " .....Ian needs to do a video on one of those pikes...
