Ian does that all the time, when his expectations for a gun aren't met (so either way better or way worse), he tells it how it is, he doesn't pander to the audience or the makers of certain guns! If Ian is not satisfied with a weapon, he says why that is and often he even thinks about ways to mitigate or fix that...it's one of the things I respect him for, the other being that he admits it when a gun fully justifies the hype (like when he was allowed to shoot a full-auto Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 (FG42!), which tamed the recoil of the full power 8mm Mauser-Cartridge very well and stayed controllable even on full-auto fire!)

This is everything I ever expected it to be. I honestly don't know why it didn't become popular given how well it performs. What was wrong with it again? If transferrable automatic weapons hadn't been made illegal in the US right before this thing was designed, I feel like a lot of civilians would have purchased one
@Hibernicus19682 жыл бұрын
Cost is the reason for its lack of popularity. Yes, it performs fantastically well, but because of the greater mechanical complexity that inevitably comes with making such a compact, select-fire gun work in 9x19, the cost was likely deemed prohibitive by all the gun's prospective customers. Other, simpler designs offered good enough performance much more economically.

@@Hibernicus1968 I know all this. Everything else in its power class is still significantly larger in one way or another. The only exception I can think of is the MP5K, and you need to brace it with a sling and be in shape to control it without a stock. This just gives you one instead and let's you go to town. Size is still a big consideration even today, and all the PDWs that are this small, come with some downside which hinders performance. Seems like the only downside here was cost, and that's not always a factor for some. I'm sure USSOC tested this thing as well lol
@Hibernicus19682 жыл бұрын
@@TheOriginalFaxon Yeah, but CZ couldn't go into production unless they had a lot of people willing to buy. Apart from special operations people, who can pick pretty much what they want, militaries aren't generally concerned with providing the very, very best small arms bar none. They want _enough_ performance, at reasonable cost, with good long-term reliability, since they're going to be arming thousands of people. A gun that offers 20% more performance, but costs 40% more per unit, is generally not going to make the cut if the next competitor meets the specified criteria without that extra 40% per unit cost. And though the spec ops guys might love to have this thing, when enough other customers don't materialize to enable CZ to make a profit producing it, the spec ops guys won't get it either.

I don't know about .32 ACP being an issue. No one argues that a blast of 00 buckshot from a twelve gauge is deadly. Double ought translates to .33 caliber and using less ballistically efficient round balls rather than conical projectiles. A standard 00 shot shell caries 9 pellets but because of the spread you won't likely hit with more than 5-6 beyond point blank range. If the Skorpion really is as easy to shoot as Ian is saying that would mean you should be able to get 5-6 shots off pretty quick. So not the most powerful combination but a long way from useless.

This is another Forgotten Weapon that was before its time. If CZ released this today as PCC in the US, there would be a niche in the market for it. The downside would be the cost. I believe the B&T MP9 is currently the best SMG of this size. It's my favorite PDW. The MP7 and MP9 are definitely a generation ahead of the Mini-UZI and Micro-UZI and vz68/Skorpion 9×19mm. Lightweight polymer construction, and not just a simple blowback action that adds weight and recoil. The MP7 is larger than the MP9. The MP7 competes more with guns like the FN P90 or IWI X95. Like them and the Mini-UZI, it's more a briefcase gun than a holster gun. The Skorpion, Micro-UZI, and MP9 are true holsterable SMGs that could be carried in a holster off the belt or possibly concealed under a jacket. They're all a little bit dated and I'd like to see something really modern. This is the only kind of SMG that hasn't been outclassed by compact assault rifles like the IWI X95, which are superior to traditional SMGs in most roles. But they're not small enough to wear them in a holster on your person like the small PDW SMGs.

@Paelorian2 жыл бұрын
It's cool but rather dated compared to more modern guns of comparable size and role like the B&T MP9 (lightweight polymer construction, flattop rail and other accessory attachment points, short recoil operation instead of simple blowback which adds weight and recoil). Still, I might prefer a 9mm Skorpion to a Micro-UZI. I'd probably prefer a HK MP7, even though it's larger. I like the B&T MP9 the most among all the PDW SMGs. It's a good shooter and the best for actually carrying in a holster.
