I'm really angry because this could've been much easier if they let this conversation happen before the primaries. If the Democrats had actually started being democratic and given people real choices, we wouldn't be here.

Completely agree. They made the bed but unfortunately we have to lie in it. I am curious if Kim is still politically opposed to Bernie. I never understood that position, I think we'd be in a very different place now if establishment dems weren't working overtime to undermine him. That said, I won't complain about Bidens age because if Bernie was running I'd vote for him in a heart beat but Biden mentally has fell off and the democrats are now forced to try and convince the average voter to vote for someone who can't speak a full sentence and somehow it's then the voters fault. I do not want a Trump presidency whatsoever but I can't help but think of a better timeline where we'd have a candidate that actually inspired voters.

So you must have amnesia during the whole wiki leaks scandal of the DNC rigging the system to favor Hillary which ended up pissing off the progressive base. Even Bernie couldn’t calm down the progressive base because the leaks showed that the DNC under Debbie Wasserman Schultz showed favoritism to the Clinton team based on the fact their was discussion of how Clinton would get them out of the red based on the fact that when Obama was President drained the DNC coffers dried as the DNC was hiring Obama favored consultants which were costly. This was one of the reasons why the Dems lost massive seats because they didn’t have enough money to help fund state wide campaigns. Debbie then stepped down as DNC chair and then got hired by the Clinton campaign which was literally lemon juice on the would. The Clinton team literally spit on the face of the progressive base. I wonder if people like you choose to forget stuff like this or if you don’t hold politicians accountable for poor strategy but blame voters.

As much he was clearly so much better in 2020, it frustrates me that the dems backed him when there were already signs of his decline. Neither of these men should be considered for presidential office. I would definitely support mandatory max for these offices just based on the fact that this is the third president in my lifetime (Reagan and Trump - maybe Bush Sr. too) whose cognitive abilities are questionable in a second term and probably should have been questioned more in the first term based on age. The decline can’t be predicted but this is a stressful role to be in and the risk of proxy presidents grows the older the person is we elect. It would be great if you can continue this conversation to discuss 2 more topics. The first topic would be to discuss the proposed strategy of political historian Allan Lichtman. He recommends that Biden resigns the current presidency. The idea behind that is that if he steps down from the campaign admitting that he’s unfit to run, then essentially he’d also be saying that he’s currently unfit. If he resigns, Kamala would automatically become president, albeit fora very short time. Then she would run as the incumbent which increases chances of winning. 2. The second topic: Supreme Court ruling on immunity

It’s been painfully aware that our bipartisan system is and has always been ineffective. Voting in this country doesn’t matter the way things stand. There are many more problems at play but the nations childlike view of the perceived good any one person in the position of U.S president can bring us one of the biggest issues. Presidents are merely an extension of the will and interests of America no matter if they are democrat or republican if Obama wasn’t a clear example of that. Political & social ignorance as well as lack of general solidarity in this hyper individualistic country also contribute as major issues.

Falling and getting back up, imo, can easily be twisted to speak about age. Let Trump come with, " I don't have falling issues so... I can't relate." If the party needs to lose for them to get it, then maybe we need to experience Mad Max. That's not the voters fault, that's the Democratic Party's fault for not bringing a viable candidate to the table. Joe is my grandpa, I don't want him leading a country I want him playing catch with the grandkids in back yard.

Just pointing out that regarding the left not being in the media more in France it is due to the fact that most medias in France are owned by Bolloré and the likes; so when it comes to access to media the left has been pushed out a lot... When they do have them in debates or in the news it's largely to be targeted by the journalist and shut down, the media is clearly biased. And on the other hand they cuddle the right and far-right... When it comes to debates between candidates, the moderator is always coddling the right, the people counting the speaking times and comparing them point this all the time. And even the "state media", is biased, which is really sad to see. All this to say that the left in France is working hard (not hard enough in my humble opinion but they do put in heavy efforts to show up in the press and counterargument lies, etc. But at the end of the day when one of the richest men of France has a hold on the media you can't overlook the crystal clear side that's being taken. There's a lot more to say on this but I'm no political expert and this Livestream is about the US presidential elections so I will stop here

Love you, the effort and research you put in and your delivery! However, one small but important correction. LBJ was absolutely elected once - in 1964. He first became president in 63 after the JFK assassination but there was an election in 64 and actually there was a whole thing about the 64 DNC in Atlantic city where the integrated MFDP tried to replace the regular all-white Mississippi Democrats and the Democratic Party establishment tricked them, coerced delegates etc because Johnson was afraid that seating the MFDP was going to lose him the South and thus the election. In the end, I think it was estimated that he still would've won anyway. The trickery disillusioned a lot of young people about the allegedly democratic nature of American politics, even within the Democratic Party.

I love that people always use the term "democrats" as this catchall that I guess is supposed to mean establishment, but "democrats" are voters. They're the people registered to vote and who come out to vote - not just the politicians. Our country is fractured by a chronically online culture that lost its rights to reproduction and basically stayed silent. As a queer black man I don't know what the people want anymore but I do think we're in a stage of 'SHOW AND PROVE"! Every piece of social and political progress that we mad through the Obama years is currently being overturned or challenged and honestly its up to "democrats" Ie the voters to SHOW AND PROVE they care about all these progressive ideals that we say we do. BECAUSE IF WE DONT its going to show and Joe Biden will be alright. Politicians don't lose elections. They're always fine and they make money / sell books off campaigns. The real loser will be the American people if they get it wrong AGAIN! His age is like "her emails" I don't care. If he dies the second day on the job I am more than supportive of a Harris presidency. AND THATS ON THAT!

The crazy thing is that Democrats who are currently in office won’t suffer from a loss, we will. So I don’t know what they need to prove to us. We didn’t do what we were supposed to do in the past, so now we will have to vote defensively.
@jessiet87063 ай бұрын
If Joe Biden dies the second day on the job, you can count on Fox News and Republicans to use that every day for the next four years to delegitimize everything Harris does. But that's not even the biggest problem. The biggest problem is whether Joe Biden can get re-elected in the first place. We need to be honest about how to win over and retain the people who do care about Joe Biden's age because right now he is behind. He can't have even one bad night (and I don't think that explains his debate performance.) If he really is 'in it to win it' then yes, he needs to show not tell. Prepared speeches in the middle of the day and pre-recorded 15 minute interviews are not enough.
@ForHarriet6193 ай бұрын
Voters care about Biden's age. They will not stop caring about Biden's age. And this election will be won by a Democrat's ability to persuade swing voters. If the candidate can't do that, they will lose.

We aren't beating Trump with a candidate that only appeals to Democrats. And if enough people from both sides can meet in the middle and vote for him he can actually win
@emmalinehawthorne39222 ай бұрын
@@pwetty4r4 I don't really think it's the democratic candidate's job to water down their policies to meet both sides. Republicans would never dream of doing that, and in actuality Republicans are the population minority. I'm not saying the candidates I mentioned specifically are the answer, but I feel like how we ended up in this mess is by ignoring the needs of our own party until most of them don't even see the point in voting anymore. That is the voters that haven't been alienated already by voter discrimination. Our country's politics already lean further to the right than nearly every other democratic country because our liberal party is too focused on getting undecided voters. If you are confused about whether or not facism appeals to you I do not want my politicians to cater to you. I really think it's a mistake to look for a politician that is a crowd pleaser and a crowd pleaser only. Politics may be a contest but the winner decides whether or not our human rights are respected and I think we are thoroughly misreading the situation if we truely believe that the vast majority of Americans are blind to how long politics have been run by celebrities instead of substance. I think we need to give people something to vote for if we want them to actually vote.

Re: the conversation about voting; I think it is quite reductive to imply that people are hesitant to vote for US presidents because they are just lazy. Is it reasonable, to ask someone to in all likelihood sacrifice the actuall life of their relatives in another country for their comfort in this country? my understanding is that a lot of people are hesitant about voting because it feels like us every US president we vote for is committed to murdering civilians en masse in one country or the other and a lot of people cannot reconcile that. I turned 20 in 2020 so that was my first Presidential Election and to see what Biden's administration is doing in Palestine despite their progressive domestic policies is hard to reconcile. There is a percentage of US population who are in this country because the US destroyed their country so voting for a US president just feels like voting for an imperial war lord that will most certainly continue to wreak destruction on your relatives in the country you were forced to leave. At the same time, if you are a child of immigrants the Democratic Party is intent on courting you and convincing you that voting for them is the only way to ensure your rights and freedom in this country. I know this is a very complicated view and I am STRESSED trying to reconcile it but I think it is quite reductive to imply that people are hesitant to vote for US presidents because they are just lazy. For a good percentage of Americans, asking them to vote is asking them to make HUGE moral compromises while it seems that not voting has the same effect. I'm seriously really struggling to reconcile the reasonable choice here so if anyone has gotten to any conclusions please let me know.
