It's even more difficult to find shoes when you're an above-knee amputee.

I bet! What are some of the additional restrictions?

@@ElectiveAmputation Heel height, of course. Weight of shoe is a huge issue as it affects the swing through of the knee motion. Another issue is how much support the shoe offers because you're without an entire leg as opposed to the foot only. As well as all the restrictions you're already dealing with.

Yes! The weight of the shoe DOES affect the swing-out. I've definitely experienced that as well.

Kerri, i am so impressed how you take off your shoes on prosthetic foot like its nothing. I think that they put the fear of god in me to even take my shoe off. I have only done this at the prosthetist. When I got a new pair of shoes they changed them out. What a relief. With my luck, I would think here I got the shoe off now I can't get it back on and i'm stuck. 😂

You can do it! try it with not as tight shoes first. the foot shell is generally the same size as a natural foot.

As a diabetic BKA and only two toes left on remaining foot I have to wear the same boots winter summer all year around that are made specially for me at NORWICH and I hate it never being aloud to wear anything else 😢😢😢

Shoe shopping is hard! My prosthesis foot is a man foot too! Hard to fit, especially socks. I miss cute heels and wedge sandals. I have a pair of flat sandals I can wear in summer. Honestly people don't really notice my fake foot. My dress shoes are gym shoes! I found some Skechers with bling/ glittery that I wear for sparkle. It is what it is.

I find that even with flats, I struggle to fit/ tuck in my prosthetic foot into a shoe that used to fit me before my injury. A natural human foot is flexible, but a prosthetic foot is not.

You may have already heard of this, but Passion Foot Wear. It's interchangeable shoe's so from flats to different height heels. Don't know if they would work for you, but I thought of them for you after watching this.

This is always a problem. I have to wear a continuous low sole, meaning no heel cut-out (like an extremely low wedge) if I don't want to lose balance and fall. It IS very difficult to find pretty shoes that fit that requirement. On top of that, my prosthetic foot is a size 8 while my real foot is size 7 1/2. I'm forced to buy all my shoes at size 8 to fit the left prosthetic foot so the right shoe is always big and I have to use insoles which are sometimes uncomfortable. I also can't wear just any flat shoe because I'm flat-footed and need proper arch support. Sigh!!!! I've actually become a Sketchers girl now. They're pricey but have been working the best for me so far. I just plunk on a pair of the most "dressy" ones and wear maxi dresses or long pants for formal occasions. No one knows the difference and even if they do, I really don't care (neither do my REAL friends). I'm walking around pain-free and that's all that matters to me! 😄

My hypermobile knees over here be like, "can we get that on purpose?" lol. But as someone in the 90th percentile of height, I can assure you that they do make pretty shoes that are flat. 😅
