Reiko has been great for NZ in the past, right now however his form is not where he would want it to be. Bill Proctor however is in the form of his life and his combination with Jordy is very strong, he’s a better distributor, defender and has better feet than Reiko at the moment.

If there was one who had poor game is was Reece and not Reiko the English defense disrupts attacking teams, the ABs were under pressure all game yet made some good decisions at critical points which won they the game. Well Beauden was exceptional

Rieko was only ever great on the wing! He realistacally never gets picked over any on the top 3 teams' 13. Infact, I'm struggling to name a centre I'd pick him over, in the Rugby championship, possibly even NZ super rugby sides.

I am happy with the results. Got a series win against a team that came down to NZ gunning for the ABs. Reasonable start for the new coaching group. I think we will be able to fairly assess this new coaching group later in the year when they play England in Twickenham. We can the look back at these two tests and assess if progress has been made through the season.

In saying that big question marks over our locks/locking combinations. SA, France & Ireland will see potential weaknesses in our forward pack when we come to play them later in the year. Can't rely on the talent in our backline to get us over the line.

Agree Rogaird and Jordan will be key in setting up play, still missing good couple of locks and a 6 to take their role, not convinced on DMac locking in 10 yet either... He probably will get this season to prove it. Christie at 9 is still a worry being slow off the ruck, hoping TJ is back next week and Ratima continues off the bench untill roigard is back. Perefeta has been decent at fullback but still want a Jordan coached by Razor to be our test 15.

Fellow armchair critic here 🤣 Rieko isn't a natural centre and lacks the instincts best suited to unlock the true potential of this ABs' backline. He's great defensively but still reckon the backline would be better served with players with a "craftier" skillset a la Conrad Smith to balance well with Jordie's crashball role. Wish Razor had the courage to put him back on the wing where he could again be at his potent best. Both ALB and Proctor are brilliant 13 exponents that aren't afraid to "pull the trigger" in many facets of the game - it does seem as though their more audacious playing styles lend themselves more to the postion. Again this isn't a knock on Rieko, obviously he's done a solid job at 13 so far. It's just a discussion of how he could be best utilised as well as a better optimised midfield pairing.

Reiko is great defensively. On attack he's been doing the hard yards well, but seems to not have much vision. ALB is too slow however for attack I think even if he tries. Proctor looks the goods but of course needs time in the saddle.

We butchered a clear try through poor decision making. Our lineout was dysfunctional for a period of the game. Our wingers were out played by the English. However, we blooded a new halfback to test rugby, recovered from a 13-17 scoreline at Eden Park, and got the lineout working again, while the impact from the bench was immense - probably the biggest momentum changing use of the bench I've seen in a number of years for the All Blacks. Not perfect by any stretch, but the English side put in an outstanding performance and threw everything at the All Blacks, so to win 24-17 and give the new coaching group a 2-0 series win over England is nothing to be sniffed at. They get a B.

Ioane just does not pass the ball. Never has. And he barely ever kicks either. It means he is missing a dimension to his game and makes it easier for defending teams to shut down our wide attacks. England could afford to narrow the field knowing that by having a non-distributing centre we narrow it ourselves.
@clarke1319
@clarke1319 Ай бұрын
Thefein lies much of the problem. NZ players generally don't kick. Only a few have the skill. Couple of comparisons. Compare Telea to Reece. Telea never kicks . Attack or defence. Reece made two huge defensive kicks relieving pressure at Dunedin and Auck. Sylvia Brunt yesterday twice displaying how effective a well executed kick behind the defence can be.

We desperately need taller locks. We need Josh Lord 205cm, Sam Darry 203cm and when eligible Fabian Holland 204cm to step up. We can then move Scooter to 6 where we are weak. He’s 197cm which is short for a lock but ideal at 6. Finau hasnt stamped his mark on the jersey.

Agree...we need some tall timber that is young enough to develop over the next 3 years. Lord and Darry fit the bill. Holland needs more time to prove himself at super rugby level and see if he has a big enough engine for test footie. Assuming Darry plays well for the NZ 15 he should be brought into the AB camp for the rugby championship in the place of one prop or a loosie. Paddy gets through a lot of work but does not have the muscle at test level to monster world class opposition. As for the loosies...we do not have the right balance there. Ardie needs to be moved back to onside flanker and Blackadder tried at offside or 8...he was awesome at blindside before his injuries. Try Dalton or Sititi at 8 and put Finau and Jacobson on the bench. Finlay Christie may be good on defense but he is slow at clearing the pill. He hesitates, double pumps, and telegraphs his intentions. We need Roigard back and an instinctive scrummie with a fast clearance like Cortez Ratima. Another one that needs to be sidelined is Rieko. ALB and Billy Proctor can defend just as well but have the vision for space, awareness of those either side of them, and pass (both sides) that Reiko lacks. Proctor has also been in awesome attacking form...which was the original X-factor that Reiko brought and which he has lost. Time to sit him and force him to find his mojo. Maybe try Narawa and Clark on the wings this weekend with BB at fullback and Perofeta on the bench. And while we're at it, lets see how a front row of Williams, Aumua and Tosi go against Fiji...start them and bring in DeGroot, Bell and Newell...sit Taylor.

Very interesting how the media is calling this the poorest they have seen in a while, short memories!!... dont you remember ABs vs SA in Twicks last year, or vs the french the start of the WC both these games wernt even close lol... how poor we have done against france, Ireland and Argies in the last four years under foz breaking all number of undesired records!! I think the biggest thing I noticed for the start of this year for the ABs is discipline..No cards (we play like 80% of our game with a card lol) and having half the penalties last game of the opposition is massive. Infact most of the last games stats are favouring the Abs too apart from the territory, the lineout and a bit of rust around turnovers.. Close test match for both games show the quality of the poms, but the ABs having been playing SR style footy all year and this group coming together with less then 2 weeks with a new coaching style that will be different from the last 20 years... I was expecing a draw at best especially with the amount of key players we have lost: Whitlock, Retalic, Cane, Smith, Frizell, Mounga, Leicester, Jordan, Roigard, Samisoni and now TJ....

The problem in the midfield isn't Rieko, it's Jordi - Jordi is the one who doesn't pass most likely because he is used to running it and not passing as a 15. Watch when Rieko was playing with Havili in the midfield - Havili set Rieko up so many times to make line breaks and got the best out of Rieko's speed and power. Also, it's kinda naive to think only of attack - Rieko hardly ever misses a tackle and has speed to get back when others miss tackles......in fact the commentary team on the match commented how hard it was to get through the midfield of NZ. If you're not happy with 2 wins from 2, when the opposition had stand out performances from Smith and Itoje with the only stand out being 20 mins from Beauden for NZ, then you're living in a fantasy world. Other countries have caught up/NZ don't have the legendary players of the past. I grade Devlin as a D+.

Concerns at lineout time yes but we did just lose probably the best or near best locking pair in the history of the game and it did improve in second half. One area of concern for me is how flat footed the forwards are when going through phase play from ruck to ruck. Our 9 passes and only with ball in hand do the big boys start running and nearly every time are getting tackled on or behind the gain line. We look off the pace in that area. One positive is when was the last time the ABs went two consecutive games with the full 15 on the field for the entire 80??

Do not agree. Beauden must start,to secure stability,"before" things went wrong.! It"s not that he will be the game saver,towards the end of every game.!! Than it will be to late.!!

Tj is world class. Would walk into any 23 in the world, that's why he is picked. I'm not sold on Christie. Would of rather saw fakatava and Cortez in behind tj

Again Justin this would not have been anywhere near acceptable under Foster but because it’s Razor you look the other way. Why not call the coach out. The players used their previous experience to win this. Nothing to do with current regime
