Journalism should, by it’s very nature, be objective and unbiased. Report the facts, report what is happening and leave ideology and politics out of it.
@TREXX8111
@TREXX8111 4 жыл бұрын
So what if the facts go against your ideology or politics? Journalism should be unbiased as possible, nothing delivered by a human can negate bias entirely though. It's fundamentally impossible. The problem is a lack of credible journalism today due to the internet saturating the advertising market. This forces journalists to focus more on conflict and opinions pieces than actual news simply to get paid. Politics is an amazing catalyst for conflict. The second issue is that because of the increase of bad journalism due to market shifts leads to a distrust in journalism (rightfully so) that forces genuine and credible journalists into the same basket, even though they are just releasing the objective facts as unbiased as possible. The problem there is people distrust journalism so much that if a damaging fact about a political entity is covered there is a political ideology ready to reject it and claim fake news.
@Padthai_Shrimp
@Padthai_Shrimp 4 жыл бұрын
yeah journalism is about satisfying your market audience. Thats why we have left wing and right wing media. And little in between. People are just primitive tribalistic. They like to belong to a team. Therefore a market naturally forms out of this division. Hence we have polarizing journalism. The market for a center and objective journalism is just not profitable. Since objective journalism, would eventually print out a story that would offend right wing and left wing ideologies. Pushing away people from both sides. Hence a market for objective news does not form. So in the end, its about people realizing how flawed people are.

Ghengis Khan is an excellent example of that. Although he killed many people, it was a very different in it's time to more modern governments like the Soviet Union. Khan conquered a huge territory and became the effective sovereign over thousands of cities. In that time, it was very normal to punish a city which didn't obey it's ruler by putting it under siege or executing huge numbers of it's people. It would be more difficult to argue Ghengis was an angry tyrant when you compare him to the regime's he overthrew, which also killed people without much regard for their lives.

@@daegueric You still couldn't apply today's European standard's to the Europe's Enlightenment Standard's. The enlightenment was the beginning of the formation of the scientific method, but not it's final form. A lot of the innovator's working on it had the money and resources to sink into an education and to sit around writing a thesis which is very different to today's idea that everyone should have access to higher education in some form, in fact our culture pushes degrees as a prerequisite for many jobs. The judicial system in England and the US would look very different from today, as the standards we hold are very different. The link you provided doesn't deny that, it's just a summary of what the enlightenment was. It doesn't outline the differences between society then and now, as that wasn't it's purpose. Personally I think society is progressing it's laws and equalites faster than ever before, eventually leading to a divide between the populace and legislation.

@@dongargon763 Sadly accurate. Compromising the truth and holding back deeper understanding. Although I would say this kind of smearing happens regardless of political leanings. Too many people have forgotten integrity and courage (or have been compromised to not recognize it anymore). It's what makes the world better IMO.

Conflict has always been part of the human experience. Nations have fought nations, nations have had civil wars. Since the beginning of time there has been slavery throughout the world. There are millions of people in slavery today. Nothing seems to of changed. All the conflict we have right now is not going to change as long as we have large groups wanting to injure one another. We have had long periods of peace in the past. We can have it again if this destructive cycle can be broken through reconciliation and communities learning how to live together even with the differences between us and try to live in a spirit of love and respect. Americans of all different backgrounds and believes are still living in peace now.

When I say I am in the center, I mean some of the following: I support gay rights and trans and all of that. I support the second amendment and gun ownership. I support a woman's right to choose. I support free market capitalism. Read "Industrial Society and Its Future" and the very start of the book rightly dismantles leftism. Yet when I look at conservatives, I cannot help but ask why the same party that asks for small government and encourages personal responsibility and self reliance and all that... is the same party that wants the government to have to power to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body who you can marry and so on? Both sides disgust me for different reasons, and whenever people try to sucker me into talking politics, it is very interesting to see their reaction as they nod and wake up to the bull shit I point out about how both sides have things VERY correct and other things insanely wrong. Both sides do incredible good for our nation while also actively doing things to undermine our future. Regan supported a strong national defense program and took a hard line on communism... while defunding mental hospitals and allowing the nation's infrastructure to crumble around us and cause rampant homelessness as the mentally ill and put out on the street. Clinton preached "it's the economy stupid" while signing NAFTA,which has done what might be irreversible harm to American workers and aren't countless jobs out of the country. Can we not find some middle ground where we can maybe cut spending on the military industrial complex that Ike warned us about and funnel that money into social programs like mental health clinics and after school programs and NASA? Can we also have strong boarders and fair immigration laws? I hate it when I want to support fiscal conservatism, only to find out that our leaders who share this view also use racial slurs over the phone and back rooms and try to keep people of color oppressed. What are we to do? This is why we cannot have nice things.

@@brainwash480 - I appreciate your question, but I am not going to write an essay here, despite how long my first post was. I already sourced a great read for you, "Industrial Society and Its Future". That is not the only thing and do not agree 100%, but it will better answer your question. Secondly, we can talk about the local levels, county levels, district levels, state levels and federal levels. For example, look up "Crisis in our classrooms" and what is happening in Portland Oregon. It is not the same across the nation, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening, and it is the direct result of leftist policies.
@PaulGaither
@PaulGaither 4 жыл бұрын
@@aaronthoming8192 - That is fair and we can have that debate as a society. It is not as cut and dry as people want to make it out to be. Do you define the division of cells as human life? If so, would the removal of cancer be an abortion? Would the amputation of a limb be abortion? I think that is ridiculous for me to compare, but it is the first step in the talk, as early stage pregnancy is ONLY the division of cells. As a second step, nature has its own forms of abortion in al species including humans. That is essentially what a miscarriage is in simplified terms. Is the mother murdering her child? Should she be arrested for that occurring? If not, then where does one draw the line between natual abortion and induced abortion? I don't want to get into it in too much detail here, but let me assure you that is is not nearly as simple as your initial reply seems to try to make it. Even the supreme court ruled on abortion at different terms of pregnancy, and the science continues to come in. Oh, and while I have your attention, the subject of stem cell research is crazy as well. "Scientists at major universities and government labs have quietly been using fetal tissue for decades. They say it is an invaluable tool for certain types of research, including the study of eye diseases, diabetes and muscular dystrophy. Nevertheless, some agree to talk about it only if their names and their universities’ names are withheld, because they have received threats of violence from abortion opponents. Companies that obtain the tissue from clinics and sell it to laboratories exist in a gray zone, legally. Federal law says they cannot profit from the tissue itself, but the law does not specify how much they can charge for processing and shipping." Essentially, there are hospitals around the nation which profit from abortions. At what point does a doctor stand to gain financially from encouraging an abortion over procedures or options to keep the baby when a desperate mother is seeking advice? It gets really messed up.

It’s all just fkn concrete my man... there’s much more important real issues out there that need us Americans to address.. chasing old statues is absolutely pointless and will not change anything (as we can now see) .. knocking down statues is exactly what the elite social engineers and their politician lackeys want you all to be doing.. much better for the mob to be going after concrete statues of dead men who did bad things than the CURRENTLY ALIVE BAD MEN WHO ARE FUCKING OVER THE UNDERCLASSES! ... I'm sorry, I find it hard to agree with removing Confederate statues, under a false pretense that all these men were evil? Imagine if your capable union soldiers upending a farm, his family, his neighbors and burning years of hard work to the ground, while raping, beating, and killing those trying to defend all they know and love. Would one actually expect them to join the union army? Keep in mind there was no fast track correspondence at the time, so not everyone is to even know exactly what the purpose of the war really is, except they understand right and wrong! Now erase this farmer's (soldier) history and tell his ancestors what he fought for was wrong? Quite possibly not knowing anything of the politics, but recognizing clearly right from wrong! One can not apply our current internet capabilities with 1800s! In truth we can't fathom every scenario of the time, but of course what you pull up on your computer surly explains the evil south!! With no depth of thought and possibility your just judging things you cannot know! To condemn one general discredits all who died for reasons that clearly illude your imagination!

I actually had ancestors who were brothers (Well, one was my ancestor) that lived in Kentucky and fought on separate sides. The Civil War should put most people to a different place in time. Why is the history learned in high school no longer common knowledge? The older l become younger people know less about the past. Is this normal or is this process speeding up. Perhaps one day in the future, the norm will be that people will not be able to remember what happened last week.
