I just watched a video on how clothing has gotten shittier over the years, and it too pointed to private equity buying up retailers and SOOOO MANY of the comments were "Once VCs get in, it all goes to hell!" and "Once private equity comes into anything, it goes to shit." It's definitely a growing sentiment across all sorts of unrelated niches. The internet made it possible for people with specific interests to congregate and start grassroots businesses catering to these niches for the past 20+ years now. But for maybe the past 10 years it's becoming more and more common for big businesses to start either buying out these businesses or out competing them and taking out what made these niche companies appealing and actually good.

They also removed the reason, why they made the series in the first place: comparing cheap and expensive parts to see, whats worth spending more money on. With the 350s, they had a final discussion, where they gave a small recap of what they would pick. With the WRXs it was just "We installed a 30.000$ crate engine. Thanks for watching" and thats that. No summary, no personal recommendations, just endcard and done.

Advice from a long time car guy in my mid 40's. Newer cars are nice n all, but not mechanic friendly. If you want to work on your own car, then get something from the 90's or early 2000's. Anything built after 2001-2009 (depending on manufacture) is over engineered and designed to be assembled once, as quickly as possible while able to fulfill a warranty. Then be replaced.
@StreetForged4 ай бұрын
Its kind of an unwinnable game at this point. I agree with you in a sense; my cars are a 90 and a 93, but I have to fix them or do preventative maintenance constantly. Even if you live in a low rust climate, every bushing and seal in a car from the 90s is on its last leg or completely disintegrated, and in many climates, beginning to rot and corrode beyond a realistically feasible point for the average person. My 1990 has at least 15 weld patches on the floor and I still have more to fix now that I've stripped the undercoating and found more rot. The 90s cars were a great option up to ~2015, and I've noticed them becoming much rarer over the past decade as each one becomes too much time and money to fix. I wish it wasn't this way and I'm sticking with old cars, but I don't see many other people learning to weld, do body work and paint, and build a whole car without already having the tools and some experience.

Depends on where you come from, I guess. I grew up doing stupid engine swaps with junkyard/salvage build that cost very little (or nothing, sometimes when you're friends with the kid of the owners of the big one nearby). I learned at least the foundation of and got fairly solid with fabrication, machining, etc. before I even hit high school. Before I hit 30 I built my house with 2 workshops, a machine, woodworking, and fabrication shop (with lifts for car/truck stuff) and another smaller one with equipment/space for my watchmaking/clockwork stuff. A lot of the machining equipment is old, most came from the old timer that taught me when he passed away, but it works perfectly for what I need (no 3D CNC mill, but I don't need that). I also have a warehouse to store engines, parts cars/parts, and projects (finished or not). Grow up in BFE midwest then move back after wasting time/money at college. Cost of living is basically 0, land is relatively cheap, if you grew up in a family with contractors and properly learned you can build the property up yourself safely and to code for a massive amount less than paying for people to do everything. A lot of my projects still revolve around walking through the salvage yards with a friend or two, spotting random stuff that has interesting parts, and then finding something dead with a good title to put it all together with. My latest Frankenstein creation is a Chrysler Crossfire 5 speed base model I ripped most everything out of, threw a turbocharged SRT4 engine out of a PT GT in it after adapting everything to fit, wired to and run by an ECU I built up from schematics, put a better steering setup in that doesn't suck, and now it's a street legal track car that's really peppy and fun to screw around with. If it blows up, I'll find another PT GT or just kswap it.

This video was nothing but facts. I will say, it’s okay to get sponsors and “sell out” to a degree as long as the content doesn’t get watered down because of it. I think Jimmy Oakes is a great example because he still does a large portion of the work, he has sponsors to help offset the cost and he has fun with his friends doing it. He comes off as a genuine person and isn’t afraid to show mistakes. Too many channels lose that because they see $ signs and forget why people watched them in the first place

Can confirm. ChisFix did not know how to drive manual when he bought that car. I am proud to say. I(24M) learned how to drive in a 1970 C10 with a "three on the tree." I'm one of the rare few young car guys with that achievement!
