I recently sold a rotted out Outback on Facebook marketplace that was very clearly sold as a parts car. Ad had everything listed that was wrong with it, I checked off "for parts" on the title and registration, everything. Scumbag bought it for $700 (cool, more than any scrapyard would give for it) said he was going to pull the engine. Then he blocked me on facebook and relisted it within 24 hours for $3400. The thing was a rotted out deathtrap that would take weeks of work sourcing parts, welding, etc. I found out because he didn't block my wife. Tried warning the town and local area through community pages about what happened and detailed everything wrong with it, I was insulted, brigaded, harassed, you name it saying I was the bad guy, I was just jealous he was flipping it, "just let him make his quick buck". That car can and will strand someone somewhere at best, kill them at worst, and I saw the real face of my community through those facebook posts. Deleted my facebook and I fking hate buying and selling used cars through auction sites, marketplace, and craigslist now. SO many subhuman trash a-holes that have killed my faith in humanity.

I imagine auction sites are full of people who are trying to ride the 'Rona price wave and got way over-leveraged in their "investments". Got caught up in the price surge and thought they were only gonna go up because they had to work their ass off to get the car (due to shortages etc). Now that prices and demand have stabilized a bit, they're left with a 50k car on their 60k salary and they can't financially afford a 10k loss in value. They're going to be scumbags when they can't get the price they want because they literally cannot afford the loss. Specifically thinking of that Supra, but it could apply to most of these. Don't invest in cars, ever.

@sprolyborn25546 ай бұрын
Investing in cars is fine but you have to do it right. (I dont have it in me, I'd rather drive it than flip it if I'm going to go through the trouble of buying) For instance, Japanese almost anything would have been a good example. Back in the 2010s, 300zx were easy to find for less than 5. Now 10 is what gets you a driver. For something more expensive, 90s NSXs used to go for 30-40. Now they're 70-80.
@Midnightrider3846 ай бұрын
@@sprolyborn2554 you're not wrong, but bear in mind that the price of used 90s cars jumped hugely because of the pandemmy, a (hopefully) once in a lifetime occurrence. Also, even with a near doubling in value, if you spent $1,500/year in maintenance and insurance, that's $15,000 spent on keeping your "investment" protected and maintained over 10 years. In your 300zx example, you would still end up losing money, even though the value of the car has doubled. Cars are not good investments, as just about anyone who invested in a car will tell you.
@sprolyborn25546 ай бұрын
@@Midnightrider384 I would've put my money on that it lines up with when the people that were kids when the 90s cars were what you would see on a bedroom poster got old enough and established enough to actually buy these cars. They're in their 30s, early 40s now.

Last week Won a no reserve bid on 1996 land rover defender for $28k and the seller straight ghosted me and cars and bids. I asked if this sale was binding and they told me he doesn't have to sell it to me if he doesn't want. Explain to me why everyone doesn't put no reserve and just back out if they don't want to. 3 days after I won the auction (I have a week to claim the car after auction close) I saw he had the car listed on Facebook marketplace. I had a friend inquire about the car and this guy responded immediately and was aggressively trying to sell him the car. My friend confronted him saying he saw it was sold on cars and bids already and the seller lied his ass off. Told him the site accidentally made it no reserve and the buyer (me) didn't respond or come up with the money when realistically I was ready to wire immediately after auction close. I don’t understand why auction sites have so much popularity tbh. Like unless it’s some rare spec or low production car why would you want to buy something where you can’t inspect it and you have to guess at the possible imperfections.

Oh my God, I had to stop and laugh at that spray can top and paint covered driveway still in frame It's as dumb as answering the cops at your door with fresh crack cooking on the stove.

Hearing you guys call out people who back out on auctions is something you guys need to do more of. This behavior should not be condoned.

You can see the black tip on the exhaust from the oil it was burning in the pics Those engines burning oil is a very well known issue you should have known before buying the car.

So I've spent the last 3 years doing as much of the PM I could afford on my 97 e36, and glad to hear the praise for 30mpg highway cuz I'm FINALLY pullin just about that. I can't wait to rebuild the vanos and see if I can't get that up to 32

I have an '07 Vibe that I put bronze Sparco DAKAR 17" wheels on, a low profile roof rack and some Rally-Armor mud flaps, and honestly as slow and goofy as the little "Sport Wagon" is it gets more compliments and thumbs up than any other car I've ever owned. Strongly recommend picking one up if you find one in good shape, because they are just plain fun.

That MR2 rules, Feed is a genius, and buying one with a motor you have to swap is IDEAL. If you want to keep it simple and give yourself the IDEAL experience, drop in a 2ZZ man. You'll have a budget Lotus Elise. Even though I have an auto Celica with it (I KNOW I KNOW) I freakin' love that engine. It's just a ton of fun and so involving.

Bought my E30 on cars and bids. I knew what I was getting into and it has yet to have any mechanical failures despite the 240k miles. I've basically done a full resto though so I definitely would have saved money if I bought a better example
