Our priest was a chaplain for a police department. The police would send boys to be counseled by Father Ed. Father Ed was sexually abusing them and his foster children. At that time the Catholic Church just moved Father Ed to another parish. The police & the church protected the system. No jail time.

They knew EVERYTHING about him, where the rectory was at, what it looked like inside, other priests that lived there, the car that he drove, etc. The molestions occurred years ago, therefore, nothing happened. Of course cases of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy and Protestant youth pastors are too numerous to mention. And plenty of atheists, agnostics, and non-religious people have abused children as well. It seems those intent on taking advantage of children will find positions of trust as religious figures, teachers, coaches, and medical professionals in order to gain access to their victims.

The way how she said “is being believed” should tell you a lot about the world in this society today. If the victim is coming forward to tell what happened against them, they should not have to feel scrutinised or even blamed for what happened. I am so glad people are taking this very seriously. You can't trust anyone. School teachers, doctors, babysitters, your kid's friend's parents, or priests. Most abuse comes from a family member or friend people think they know. You have to be careful who has access to your kids and you have to pay attention.

I'm a Christian and have never liked the idea of positions such as youth pastor and putting new people in charge of young kids at Sunday school etc. There is no call for this in the Bible, parents are told to raise their own children and not some dork who just floated in. There are warnings in the Bible telling us to be aware of these guys and have nothing to do with them. Ex cons like to be accepted by churches to give them some sort of respectability, I've talked about this with a pastor and one ex con. They may be true converts but keep an eye on them and don't allow them to gain positions in the church, old habits die slow.
