In 2019, Carter and wife Rosalynn hosted the 26th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, building 21 homes in Park Preserve alongside thousands of volunteers. Habitat Nashville raised $6.1 million for the event which supported 59 families.
On the day President Carter was to be in Nashville, he fell and suffered a black eye along with an injury that required 21 stitches. Not only was Carter on time for the event, he worked every day of the build.
Habitat Nashville says at the time, members of the Tennessee Titans rookie class helped to serve lunch and asked to meet Carter because he was such a "bad ass" to show up with 21 stitches ready to work.
