The tradition of the 2nd birthday was begun by her grandfather, King George V. His birthday was during the Winter when the royal family were at Sandringham. He decided to have an official birthday during the Summer so his people could see him during more favourable weather at Trooping the Colour. The tradition has endured to this day.

That’s completely different! Bread needs to be kneaded by hand, but using your hands to mix cake is just unnecessary. We’ve got perfectly good utensils for that! Breads, or pasta doughs rely on feel to know when it’s right, while a cake just needs to have all its ingredients incorporated.

@@sneakybeaky1588 Assuming you have the tools to bake with and also an oven. Wouldn't taste the same. Also a shitton of experience in making frosting and spongecakes, to have a perfect texture. So yeah while the ingretients are cheap usually it's more about the quality of the final product that explains its cost. This particular cake is legit one of the recipes that, if handmade by a michelin chef, can be sold easily for 40 or even more. Perfection has a price.

There are a ton of royal cakes that would cost more than 500 for this exact reason but with way more expensive ingredients, that also require way more experience and knowledge to bring all together to perfection. The cake in this vid is quite easy to master, hence why even if perfect it looks like any storebought chocolate cake.

@@GreyPunkWolf I think you're vastly overestimating the amount of skill required to make this. Anybody who's good at baking who has a stand mixer could easily do this. Hell, I've made a similar cake by hand with a whisk when i didn't have a mixer. Buckingham palace probably has some pretty nice chocolate though. That would be the main difference in flavour between the real deal and a cake made with grocery store chocolate.

It's chocolate overload, and as a chocoholic myself, I love it! I'm still kind of shocked that this simple-looking cake that looks like something I could buy at a supermarket is fit for royal birthdays. But maybe its allure is in its simplicity.

Actually I think the word ganache comes from France, and in French we don't accentuate the words like you do in English :) In English you'd typically say "ganACHE", the guy said "GAnash" and in french we'd just say "ganache" without any anccentuation on any syllable (if that makes sense) !
