We should have a new law, in which the judges and parole board would go to jail if the perp they free reoffends. Am sick and tired of stories of innocent people losing their lives or raped or battered because a bleeding heart liberal lawyer thinks criminals have more rights than victims 😡

I don't understand why he had to bring colour into his argument about why we should not have a death penalty. Plenty of white people have also been wrongly accused and charged, but he had to use the three black men in his argument. He could have simply said that he does not agree with the death penalty because he's seen people wrongly convicted in the past in his profession.

2 points about the death penalty. 1. It is not just a deterrent. It's also about reinforcing the need for justice. 2. As the KC implied, DNA evidence has made it much more unlikely that an innocent will get wrongly convicted, and it should only come into play where there has been irrefutable evidence produced such as DNA. The KC is basing his arguments in an era when there was no DNA profiling, so his precedent is no longer valid.
@mattsmith87

I've never thought psychopaths could be rehabilitated - and still don't. I have long thought the fact that Venables being only 10 misses the point, as far as his punishment was concerned. The point, surely, is that, if someone can be a psychopath at 10, and be capable of murder, then the law should treat them the same as they would any adult with the same mentality. i.e. with a life sentence. Otherwise, whenever that psychopath is released, he / she will still be a danger to the public and can always do it again.
