I grew up pretty religious during my childhood, but it was only when I met my first gay friend in high school that really started challenging a lot of my beliefs about love, tolerance, acceptance, etc. After that, i just couldn't even set foot into church because I just couldn't reconcile the teachings from the church. So I stopped attending church during high school. I was also suffering from major depression during that time and being at church didn't really help much at all. Today, i'm a changed man for the better, all thanks to my awesome gay friend. As Megan said, it's the power of the "human connection". I always believe that hate is a learned behavior, so which means it can be unlearned. Everyone deserves a chance to change themselves for the better. Otherwise, where else would they go? No human connection mean they never will learn (i'm also very against cancel culture)

@@volgg yeah same. I grew up in a strict Muslim family and I kinda had that idea of "everyone not like us is below me" until I turned 12 and realised I was gay. It really caused me to question my beliefs and wonder if I hated these people because that's how I felt or if it's because that's what was put into my head. Today - I am still Muslim but also love everyone and don't believe in hate or superiority what so ever. Conversation can help so much and I'm so happy to see that it worked for you!! Human connection all the way!!

She still loves her family completely despite who they are and what they do. The finale from The Who's "Tommy": "We're Not Gonna Take It." I once had a girlfriend who left me for Roger Daltrey. At the time, The Who were about to go on tour of America in support of their-'Who Are You?-album. My name is Tommy. Tommy Phelps; my first and middle name. I am a born-again Christian. My brother died of cancer last March. I, Thomas Phelps, showed up at his deathbed the day before died with a King James Bible, and started to read to him from 1 John. Standing beside was my earliest childhood friend, Jonathan. He worked for Prince back in 1984 for his 'Purple Rain' album/movie/tour.

Most of those people in that horrid "church" are ones that believe in the Great Creator and are searching for meaning in their lives and to trying to make sense of the world around them..and because of that perceived vulnerability there are those who exploit that and brainwash these otherwise kind hearted people..not all in that "church" are like that though,there likely are some genuinely hateful people..but I don't think all of them are..like this woman,she doesn't seem like a truly hateful person,otherwise she wouldn't have been able to lift the veil of lies and really see what was going on.. sadly religion in general has taken people's belief in God/Allah/the Great Creator and twisted it to serve the negative agendas of humans..but there are good people in every religion,I hope everyone can remember that..as this woman said "love is love" and at the end of the day love is all that matters :)

My father is Jewish, my mother is German, and I am also a Phelps. How did this happen? Well, my mother has Phelps people in her family tree, and my parents named me after one of them; a U.S. admiral and war hero. In turn, he was married to a Jewess. They are buried together in Arlington National Cemetery; and on top of her grave is a very large Christian cross.

if you dig deeper into your ancestry you may have African or Asian connections too, so your earlier ancestors may have believed in different religions. The religions you mention Judaism and Christianity are relatively recent in the timeline of human history, although they have copied many stories from earlier religions like The Sumerian Texts (from Iraq) and Rig Veda (from India).
@romanticandperky
@romanticandperky 4 жыл бұрын
@@Gorguruga Thank you for the thoughtful response. It's hard to say who exactly our ancestors were if we can dig far enough back. Who are ancestors were shows the 'hand of G-d' in leading us to where we are now, even if that's not as good as might have it. Now my full name is Thomas Phelps Karp. There was a St. Polycarp who was with the apostle John when he composed his Gospel. And Jesus was a carpenter, was He not? And he did tell his apostles that he would make them 'fishers of men'. And the apostle Thomas did go to India, so he was probably familiar the Rig Veda. The Phelps are also mentioned in 'The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn'. They were also a family of devout Christian evangelists. Mark Twain liked to copy his stories from other sources, and then change the facts around. The character of 'Huck Finn' was also based on a real person, and his name was Thomas.

@@romanticandperky Some fascinating connections there in possible lineage, thank you for your rich response. You may already be familiar with the several theories relating to the correlation between the Hindu character Krishna and the Christ character, even the names themselves are eerily similar. Their stories contain numerous correlations which author Kersey Graves, a Quaker who passed in 1883, first determined in a detailed study, finding 346 similarities between the two deities. Among some of these similarities: both their adoptive fathers were carpenters, wise men visited both, they were both called "savior" and were the second part of the Trinity, both performed miracles, both were sent from heaven to earth in the form of a man, both claimed "I am the Resurrection", both performed miracles... and so forth. In essence, the story of Jesus may just be a reinterpretation of an older story - rewritten for a "new generation" so to speak. Perhaps comparable to Hollywood remakes of old movie classics to cater for a different audience? The original story of Krishna predates the story of Christ by at least 1000 years. In connection to your apostle Thomas - it's possible he may have in fact been studying the story of Krishna during his visits to India and helping to reinterpret and rewrite the story to make it more relevant and palatable to his peers?
@romanticandperky
@romanticandperky 4 жыл бұрын
@@Gorguruga Yeah, I think so; fascinating connections. Synchronicity (Carl Jung), where coincidences are no longer random, but show the 'hand of G-d' on our lives. Yes indeed, Gorguruga, there are deep spiritual connections and correlations between faiths, and even those who don't appear to be too loving towards each other over their beliefs. I'm of Jewish/German ancestry, and yet I'm also a Phelps, like the founder of the Westboro Baptist people. Is it just a coincidence that Megan Phelps named her book-'Unfollow'? The finale from The Who's "Tommy"-"We're Not Gonna Take It"-listen carefully to the use of the word-'follow'-in this song. My name is Tommy. Tommy Phelps (Karp).
@romanticandperky
@romanticandperky 4 жыл бұрын
@@Gorguruga The first time I heard The Who's "Tommy", I was at a boarding school in New Hampshire with Judy Collins' kid sister, and I had just come from playing pinball. This was back in 1970. Judy Collins was on tour at the time in support of her top 20 version of 'Amazing Grace'. My brother was on tour with Jimi Hendrix that year, and would perform at his funeral; at which, the Rev. Pat Wright sang-'What A Friend We Have In Jesus'. 8 years later, my girlfriend left me for Roger Daltrey. At the time, The Who were about to go on tour in support of their 'Who Are You?' album. I know who I am. My name is Tommy. Tommy Phelps. My brother would also meet David Bowie some years later, but that's another story. Did you know that David refused to support LGBT, and steadfastedly refused to allow them to use his music for their campaigns? I once asked him about that at his website, when he was still alive. I was eventually baptized by a Baptist preacher named Zacharias, and I tend to agree with fundamentalists views; but being that I'm the worse sinner I know, I don't have the right to invoke hateful judgements on behalf of G-d. I recall something Ravi Zacharias said on his radio show not too long ago: "Perhaps, we shouldn't concentrate so much on what's wrong with homosexuality, but more so with what's good about being in a straight, Christ-centered, relationship; about what's good about being saved to that." And then there was what the country singer Vince Gill once said to Shirley Phelps one time (if I can remember the right words); something to the effect that being straight with the L-rd is about receiving Grace, not about invoking hatefully at others. Amen.

1:12 "And that everyone else is wrong." That is the core of every religion/denomination out there. God is great/Jesus is Lord, all the humans who have managed to twist His message a thousand different ways - not so much. Personally I think the main components to focus on are to put God first, ALWAYS. Be nice. And help others out when you can. Now before anyone goes getting their panties in a bunch, yes there's a bit more to it than that. Things like asking forgiveness for your sins, etc. But for thé most parti think those three things are the majority of what God wants from us. Humans have been making it SO insanely difficult since the dawn of time. And in many cases they're doing it to benefit themselves. Hmm, seems like the words "the devil comes in many forms" comes to mind. I should also point out that it's only the higher ups in a lot of these "religions/denominations" that are a bit untruthful. Meaning that I, personally, feel that the people in the pews/the congregation who honestly feel they're doing what God wants will be just fine. Many of us who where brought up in any particular church or private school always heard "Never even talk to anyone from other religions/denominations because they're all wrong and will burn in hell. But fortunately for you 'we' ha6it right. Now give us your money and control of your life." Yet as we got older and started talking to others they would always say "They told us that same thing! You guys were wrong, if not the devil, and are all going to perish/they're the only ones going to heaven, blah blah blah." READ the scriptures for yourself. Personally I don't think you need anyone between you and God playing middle man. In fact I would say just the opposite. Obviously if you find a church that works for you then awesome, by all means go there. I'm only saying that one shouldn't be too caught up in all the negative stuff about how 'others are wrong' etc. Instead spend your time focusing on God's eternal love, forgiveness, bringing others to Christ. Want to do God's work? Go help some truly homeless people. Buy them some socks, underwear, coats, food, etc. Instead of giving your money to some guy in an expensive suit driving a Cadillac who lives in a mansion telling you that "God told me this morning that y'all need to buy me another private jet." Smh. And make sure when you do help those in need that you let them know the Lord is sending them this assistance, you're just the delivery guy. I know some will disagree, which is your right. And for those people, I will pray for you. Pray often. I do it pretty much throughout the day. For instance every time I hear an ambulance, firetruck, etc I stop and say a quick prayer asking the Lord to watch over and protect these amazing heroes He has blessed us with. Pray for whoever they're going to help. And something I have recently figured out to do, I pray for my enemies. Just seems like that's what Jesus would tell us to do. Anyhow thanks for listening to me ramble in and God bless you my friends. Be safe out there and please please do your best to try and bring others to Christ.

*for what it's worth I have talked to many people about turning on their lives over to Christ and so often I hear "I really kinda want to do that but I'm just not so sure about being chastised into giving them money I don't have as well as them telling me who I can & can't talk to." They often have been led to believe that the only place you can pray is in xyz church. Which is just ridiculous. Shoot, I pray sitting in traffic, or anywhere for that matter. Remember Matthew 18:20, "Wherever two or more are gathered in mine name therefore I shall be also." This means that if you're standing on the sidewalk talking to anyone about God, He is absolutely there with you. Pretty cool stuff. God bless and thanks again for listening to me ramble on.

Megan has chosen the wide path that leads to eternal Destruction, the Lake of Fire. It's tragic that she threw the baby out with the bathwater. She could have kept Faith with GOD, and left WBC behind. It's not GOD who is twisted. But, rather, it's certain religious folks' misinterpretations of HIM. Pray that she repents and totally surrenders to JESUS CHRIST. Otherwise she's headed for Hell. And, that's so tragic, and avoidable.

That’s all Megan does it goes on interviews and talk shows where she can get her 15 minutes of fame. And now she wants to be holier than thou. She was a disgrace to humankind when she was picking all those funerals And holding those disgusting signs and she still a disgrace today. Go to all those people’s and apologize for the hurt that you caused them. I Or maybe stand on all the street corners holding up for signs that saying I do apologize to anyone I have offended with my disgusting words

sam la rue She has apologize. Many times. She can’t apologize to every single person. It’s no feasible. I urge you to listen to her in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4bbh6GvobOlmck She is a truly humble person and doesn’t expect forgiveness from those she’s hurt. She just wants to reach her family and others so we learn to talk to each other.

You tell her to apologize to those she has hurt, but then criticize her for going on interviews and talk shows to do exactly that. These mediums provide her the platform needed to reach the myriads of men and women that you say she has wronged. She has been in the public eye her entire life. If she is just seeking attention, then she already had it in spades as a member of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Sorry that her mind was changed. Her understanding OR perhaps proper teaching should have been expanded. But God is Not for same sex marriage or same sex relationship. Thou he does give people d choice to repent n come unto him.

please take some time to truly consider why you think being gay is wrong. please try to ask yourself what you would do in a world where the normal opinion is that straight people are sinners and need to repent just for loving someone of the opposite sex. try taking a day or two where you really go deep into your mind and question why you believe same sex relationships/marriages are wrong, what is so bad about it, what influenced you to believe in this so strongly, etc. it can’t hurt to ask yourself some questions and you might realise or discover some things that you didn’t know before :))

Romans 1:26-27 KJV [26] For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: [27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. God is Not for same sex......
